  1. They used to be vol/vol but I changed them to balance and tone (with a nice paper in oil cap and a no-load setting when fully open).
  2. I like the DT770 Pro but @bubinga5mentioned the open back version which are probably even better but I need a bit of isolation so I don’t hear my Backbeat rumbling.
  3. Yes Warwick Streamer. The original Basschat (Bassworld) had a Warwick Streamer in the logo and it was very popular then. I’ve always loved the sound of them. I was big into Incubus at the time. Sounds like a great idea 👍🏼
  4. Quite quoted myself lol 🤴
  5. Also when playing bass along with Spotify etc I don’t want too much bass from the track otherwise everything gets quite ‘crowded’. The Beyers have a lovely open soundstage which sounds just like plying in a mix.
  6. Exactly. For playing bass I like the Beyers as they sound exactly like my recorded bass does but they don’t flatter music via Spotify etc. For that I like my Grado SR60 or if there’s anyone nearby (the grados are nearly as loud from the outside as the inside!) my Bose AE2W. On impedance- my friend tried my 80ohm cans and his laptop was ok but his iPhone with lightning converter at full volume didn’t provide enough power for satisfactory volume.
  7. A friend at work wanted to buy some decent headphones so the only way he could do that was to ask everyone to bring theirs in. We did a bit shootout and he ended up buying the Beyers. We did say that a high end headphone shop (‘Headphone House’) would be a great business. You could run it from a van!
  8. That would be amazing in theory but finding somewhere with a number of similar high end types in stock is nigh on impossible. If shops do have headphones they tend to be lower to mid range and their idea of high end are Beats by ‘Dr’ Dre
  9. Yeah maybe one day consumer level headphones will have zero latency like the boss WAZA air system. The Beyers that I mentioned above come with a very long and nice quality (non tangly) cable.

    NPD - Maxon AF9

Yes thanks for the offer to borrow yours. I remember you saying you rated it a while back and that you had compared it to the mutron. Kind of your fault I bought one 😂
  11. No I got mine a little while ago. Awesome pedal
  12. I’m so intimidated by all your fantastic pedalboard arrangements that I don’t play live or really leave the house. The shelves came with a matching wardrobe which is fairly comfortable and warm

    NPD - Maxon AF9

Finally landed one of these pedals. Designed as a Mutron III clone, it has all the features I really like in the Mutron in a smaller and less valuable format. I've now got three filters based around the Mutron layout (basically, controls for direction, peak, sensitivity and the all important (to me) HIGH and LOW settings. The reason I like this so much is because it adds some flavour to the sound above a certain frequency in HIGH mode, and does something magical to the watery feel of the pedal. Lots of my other filters don't have this setting, and unfortunately they left it off the Nano Qtron too. As far as I know, the AF9 is the smallest and newest pedal to offer it. The pedal feels lovely - it has a sort of matte finish and it's a fetching beige colour that makes it look like I have it on prescription from the NHS. The switches feel great, and the foot switch, whilst a bit tricky to press with my hand (I use most of my pedals on my desk when playing at home) it has a very positive and non clicky action. I've spent the day working, of course, but also comparing the Qtron, Mutron, AF9 and MXR pedals. I am really pleased that the AF9 has the things I like about the Qtron (watery warbles between notes, even response), the Mutron (warm, non peaky treble range) and the MXR (envelope speed, sound when driven hard, especially on low notes, true(?) bypass). At the same time it has none of the disadvantages (Qtron: build quality, size, external power requirements - Mutron: size, value, poor bypass - MXR: no high LP filter, lack of wetness) I'll try and record a comparison at some stage but I'm absolutely loving this pedal. I took me ages to find the new two knob version for a reasonable price. There were a few of the slider based versions on Reverb at various points but always quite overpriced and knackered. Now I've said that I'm sure someone will sell this version in the UK for cheap, but still. I'll just delete the search! Cheers ped
  14. Scuse me, just a quick Pedal Shelf update:
  15. I had the 760fx set on my ray for ages. They really bring out the mids and feel great. The G string pops sounded really meaty and full. Cobalts are far closer to rounds than flats imo so you’ll notice a definite change. But every stingray owner should try it once.
  16. LMB3 is great. A very underrated compressor (which does limiting too but it’s more flexible than that). I used one for years and years and was perfectly happy. Wasn’t keen on the colour though.
  17. My Maxon Af9 is here. Only had a quick ply this eve but a quick A/B with the Qtron and Mutron reveals that I was right - it fits right in between and seems like a great combination of both. Had to import one from Italy in the end as couldn’t find the two knob (as opposed to slider) version anywhere close!
  18. You'll have to go wired as there's too much latency on Bluetooth. Your practice amp should have a headphone jack. If you want a set that give a very honest and natural bass sound then I'd recommend Beyerdynamic DT770pro. They're really comfortable (big ear cups that cover your whole ear and velour pads which aren't hot and sweaty like some pleather types), light and the headband isn't too tight. Reasonably priced too!
  19. Fabulous! I hadn’t considered the screws that wouldn’t have any wood to bite into. That looks like a neat solution.so pleased the pickup covers the P cavity so closely though. It was a challenge finding a pickup that would!
  20. Hi Andy, that looks great, I think the shape looks good (granted this is just a mock up, the left hand side look more even). The shape of the pickup is quite unusual but visually it look like a jazz pickup at first glance, so it's not jarring at all. The neck pickup can be left out, I can keep pots and pans in there Best of luck with the final jobs, my diary is clear and car keys are in my hand 🤣 I sometimes put dymo tape labels on my basses, and I could put one across the front of the bridge to cover the tabs cut out for the previous pickup with the model name (Thunderbackerstang?) I think the number one question will be 'what pickups are those!'
  21. Are the pickups height adjustable once installed via the usual spring system? I guess they move independently of their surrounds to some extent?
