  2. It’s a nice tight growl on that REAR pickup! (Bridge!). Mick Karn always copied me so that makes sense.
  3. These two are becoming my go-to.. they cover pretty much everything and couldn't be less alike! Celinder J-Update Fender Thunderstangbacker
  4. Here you go, sorry it's not that good but gives you an idea of what it might sound like with someone skilled playing it!
  5. Finally got round to doing a video of this bass, apologies for sloppy playing etc but I really wanted to show some of the sounds!
  6. Under £135 there’s no duty
  7. Very nice, I think a P/J/MM is the right trio and it’s really nice to have one of each
  8. Looks great, I really like the shape of that. Nice
  9. Sounds good. No pickup selector is odd though, perhaps it’s worth changing the controls to balance and tone instead?
  10. Yep here you go https://www.geminipickups.co.uk/bass/thunderbird-bass/degenerate-tb They do a few other type sin a Tbird case.
  11. Hm I can’t remember the ins and outs of it but I think the OMG mode is effectively putting a cap in front of one of the coils. Kind of like my Tbird pickup in humbucker mode. Single coil switches one off completely which sounded nice with two pickups.
  12. An MFD would be fun in a Mustang. The MFDs I had in my L2000 had one hotter coil which gave a great P sound which is partly why I went for this Tbird pickup. I presume the one in the Fallout is the same? Of course with the scratchplate covering the body you can have a nice big channel routed and try a few different ones until you’re happy, then get a new scratchplate.
  13. Sounds very similar to the PJ setup before it (so like a really grunty P bass) but with more body and no ‘plonk’ so to speak! With both pickups it’s a really sweet plinky J with flats. It’s ideal, honestly better than I expected. The pickups were a halfway house between educated guesses as to what would suit and the necessity for them to fill the old gaps. The neck pickup in particular is very clever; it’s a dual coil with one coil hotter than the other and it’s splittable. The bridge pickup is really powerful and balances with it just right as I was advised by the maker (Gemini Pickups in Wales)
  14. This one (not so much a build thread, more of a modding thread!) https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/471651-modding-a-66-mustang-really-really/
  15. Am I?
  16. Just in case you weren’t following the build thread, here’s my Thunderstangbacker
  17. Thanks! I can see the numbers on the P pick-up correlate with those dates. How about the J being from 1970, how did you know that?
  18. Fred loves it too!
  19. I will have time to properly play it tonight but so far it's the same as before but more balanced, more grunt and of course everything is straight! The addition of the splittable humbucker in the neck gives so many options. In humbucker mode it sounds pretty much the same as the P pickup did, something I've always quite liked about Tbird pickups which don't get enough love IMO. The bridge is a lot more balanced volume wise with the neck, it does a beautiful parpy sound with tons of fundamental, and mixed with the front it gives a sweet 60s jazz with flats sound. Split the front and balance 50/50 and it opens up a bit more towards a 70s spacing sound with a really woody growl. So happy with this thing.
  20. Hi guys @Andyjr1515 took these out of my Mustang bass and I/we wondered if anyone knows about them. Apparently they were fitted in the 70s, and they have quite clear number son the back. Any information would be great, I know some people obsess over stamps and numbers! Cheers ped
