  1. Just dug out my ‘Ray which I haven’t really played for a couple of months. It’s so nice going from one type of bass to another to keep things fresh and make you appreciate them all anew. I fancied something bright to counteract the P with flats. I didn’t want to take my head off with the Celinder and I’ve been playing the L2000 a bit recently too - so the Stingray was the perfect choice. Chonky and rubbery, bright and snappy… nice 😎
  2. You’re right of course, and I’ve spent some of this morning doing just that. I kind of assumed that you could edit the patches in the pedal from the software, rather than editing them on the software then sending to the pedal, which works just as well in reality. And I owe it to @Quatschmacher to do it properly! I think I’m sorted now, and with the house to myself this weekend I plan on spending most of the weekend up to my knees in synth goodness. One of the reasons I prefer this over the C4 is that you can adjust parameters directly in the pedal as well.
  3. C4 sold Cali and Muff left!
  4. Thanks, yes it was all connected but I probably should have restarted the browser after granting Chrome access to MIDI control. My Wifi went down (it never goes down) when I first started, almost like the universe was trying to tell me something!! All went fine in the end though. Thanks for the info.
  5. OK so I have to write the patches from the FI to the computer so the editor can work on them there, and I send to the FI if I like 'em... got it, I think.
  6. TBH I'm considering just ignoring the software, I never enjoy trying to use it. I can do everything I want from the pedal itself, I think.
  7. Thanks, got it, had to restart the pedal a few times for it to recognise it! I'm up to dat enow, and using the editor. I'm a little bit confused, when I open the software it seems like I have to load the patches from the FI every time I open it, and sometimes I can't switch patches with the editor view + and - buttons.
  8. Just trying to update mine to 3.6 but it doesn't show my MIDI in/out in the update menu. They're working fine. Using Roland interface.
  9. I think it has come up a few times before, I tried to change it but can’t remember why it didn’t work.. there was some sort of problem in front of the keyboard 😂
  10. It’s really a quick measure to stop one particular type of spam we always used to see if the forum was visible to anyone - an account with the name ‘gear’ in the username would message people saying they have what the advertiser is looking for and ask for payment etc. I must have banned tons of them, all different IPs and locations. As soon as I made it one post to view, it stopped. I tentatively turned it back off again a year or so ago and within weeks it happened again.
  11. There is, but you have to have at least one post for it to become visible. This was to stop spamming. @Woodinblack it might make sense to make the forum visible but with a message to say you need a post to gain access?
  12. MXR and Proton sold
  13. I just tried a Proton IV but didn’t like it as much as my Wonderlove. I missed the ‘resonance’ control which makes the Wonderlove sound so wet, and although nobody talks about it, the band pass mode with some clean blend is amazing. The Proton sounded great, but it just doesn’t warble like the Wonderlove. Still interested in trying the Aguilar, their phaser is very good at least!

  16. All the cool people have them
  17. Here's where I got to, it's a 6 position switch offering Roland GK mode blended or in isolation on any/all strings individually, as well as a built in wireless
  18. Let me guess, it doesn’t take batteries.. nope!
  19. A P with flats into a simple old Assballs pedal is currently my vibe
  20. He’s a total arse isn’t he! He’s got something about northerners too. Lots of complex issues to unpack. Sad really.
  21. Sounds nice, quite like a Bassballs but with more controls.

Ok I've had a whirl this evening and have some immediate impressions to share. First of all, it's very quiet. Quieter than the FEA and a tiny bit quieter than the MXR - the noise is about the same volume but lower in pitch so less noticeable. This is on an 18v supply; I have yet to try it on batteries which is how I'll mostly want to use it (aware that 18v gives more headroom, but I'm not convinced I'll need it) I'm testing mostly with my G&L basses, a P with flats for the clanky finger funk and L2000 with rounds for the chewy slap. Immediate observations are that it has a softening effect over the range, or certainly can do, which lends it a more musical sound than my usual digital limiter. It's a matter of taste as sometimes I like to ride the limiter hard and love the sound, clank and all, but using the Cali I can use a lower ratio and control the peaks without getting the hard edge I'm used to. Pops on the G string sound different, too - like there's more weight behind them, which feels great on the P but can take away the sharpness of them on the L2k. With some judicious twiddling I was able to get it sounding identical to the VB99 albeit with a microscopic addition of noise. I honestly don't know how the VB99 is so quiet (maybe being digital?) but I think overall it'll still be my go-to. I'll play some more and see how I like the Cali but right now it's clearly better than the MXR in the sound department, but given that I only use a pedal compressor for playing live and occasional jams where noise and absolute audio quality are secondary, I'm not sure how it fares against the MXR in that scenario, whilst the Roland has the studio side perfected. I'll keep playing with it and see how I get on, I need to come back with fresh ears and do some recording comparisons too. Cheers ped
  23. I bet that got curtains twitching!

It's the box box without the transformer. The MXR is great and a useful little pedal. It doesn't leave me wanting when I can't use my VB99 but I just had to check out the Cali on reputation alone. I previously tried the FEA Opti-Fet and moved it on quite quickly as it wasn't for me, but I didn't lose anything in the process. That's how I justify these things in my head lol
