  1. I hope that was the swear filter!! haha. Thanks - well if nothing else it's confirmed that all my basses are better than I am which is kind of cool
  2. I posted this on TB as well, and a quick count up of votes (from those who indicated a particular fave) it's very even!! G&L - 7 Ray - 8 Celinder - 6
  3. Every time someone says their fave I go back to listen and think “yeah me too” …until someone says a different one, then I do the same again 😆
  4. This. These discussions always go the same way - “the audience won’t notice” It all comes down to what you enjoy about playing, I suppose. We’re all right! MARCUS MILLER
  5. The characteristic of the spacing is unmistakeable. The type of J pickup doesn’t influence that character - that same 70s snap is there in basses from £300 to £3000
  6. Quite interesting to hear how divided opinions are on which sounds best for this groove 👍🏼
  7. Ah OK. Depends on the music I guess. I still think there's a massive difference and much prefer 70s spacing!
  8. Currently awaiting new strings. Once they arrive I’ll do a new video and put a bit more effort into it
  9. Made me wince 🥲
  10. I’m listening back and I’m embarrassed by all the mistakes!! I might do it again. Yeah each bass has it’s place. I have three ‘play along’ playlists on Spotify, one for each bass
  11. I just recorded this clip. I tried for ages to get it so that the song played and the basses switched between as you go through but I gave up in the end. There's a few mistakes and so on but it should give a fairly good idea of how they sound.
  12. I actually managed to track down what must be the last set for Elixir 40-95s in the country so crisis averted for now.
  13. I don't agree - a 70s bass stands out in a mix like anything, to my ears at least. And you absolutely cannot EQ a 60s bass to sound 70s. But it all depends on what you 'listen' to, and might not matter to most people. But we're bass geeks so...
  14. Yes it works best on a fixed length strap or one without an adjuster in the way, for sure. I have my volume about half way. I only get a bit of feedback with my SB1 which is the loudest bass ever, but I often play that with the volume on the bass down slightly which stops it entirely - even so, I don't find it an issue. Yep the controls are hard to reach and adjust once you 'strap up' - but I find the controls seldom need changing, and in fact the thing helps me keep my bass volumes consistent. All these things will be addressed in the next version
  15. Sure, but those of us who have owned a variety of 60s and 70s spaced jazz basses will hear the key difference regardless of the minutiae. I'd say it's a clear as day, and like comparing a P to a J.
  16. It must be said that the clips aren't particularly well recorded - a limiter is needed big time... but the woody bark from a 70s spacing is clearly the winner 🤣 Maybe it's because I listened to a lot of Marcus Miller as an impressionable teen That's weird - my computer autocorrected MARCUS MILLER to all caps!?!
  17. Just idle curiosity but who makes a super compact pedal that takes a battery? As mentioned elsewhere I love my EWS Stormy Bass Drive - it’s tiny, very clever and sounds amazing. I wish EWS did a bigger range of effects but I started looking for other manufacturers who offer compact designs just out of interest (I don’t need any!) One Control do a range of mostly guitar distortions although their filter pedal apparently works well on bass. Mooer and the like all make tiny pedals which require a power supply (and say ‘it’s so small there’s no room for a battery’ (well, EWS manage it…)) As an aside it always amuses me that Darkglass say they don’t allow battery operation for ‘environmental reasons’ - which kind of smacks of the same thinking that brought us the advert showing a man buying a Britta Water Filter jug (plastic, plastic filter) to reduce his plastic waste!! I suppose I like battery option because live I like to keep things really simple, and as my pedals get used infrequently and are mostly analogue I find they last ages. Something about the gadgety nature of it being self contained also appeals, I think. So do you know of any? By ‘compact’ I’m referring to 1590a size, smaller than a Phase 90
  18. Always preferred 70s myself. Lots of people say there’s no difference believe it or not, or say that you can EQ them to sound the same 😔
  19. I’m still really taken with my Stormy Bass Drive. It’s tiny, takes a battery and doubles the voltage internally yet uses very little power, has a super useful set of controls and it sounds exactly like I wanted it to. Huge range from a light bit of grit through to glitchy fuzz sounds. It’s just super cool. Although it’s ‘ended’ my search for a bass distortion, I kind of admit that it’s opened my mind to how much fun a good one is and I’ve bought others since but none have been as ‘right’ as my stormy!
  20. I can't remember where I got mine from but it's a decent, solid single adapter that fits really tightly. Much better than the one that comes with, and than the cheap ones you se eon eBay. I think it was from Sainsburys actually. Thinking about it, it's a 2 pin to UK adapter, nit a US plug
  21. Jamming through headphones with digital drums is amazing. You get a properly ‘produced’ stereo sound and can get the levels perfect. I find it a really comfortable way to jam, especially with a physical feedback device like a Bassboard or Backbeat. I actually prefer it to a ‘loud’ jam with big amps and acoustic drums tbh.
  22. Runs on batteries too!!
  23. Yep that would be perfect. I also jam with my band though headphones and have tried loads of bodges to get it to work. Last time we used a Jamhub which was great, but I’m replacing that with a Zoom L8 which will do everything in one, including recording.
  24. Yup, avoid those headphone splitters too as they’re quite noisy.
  25. Yes I saw there was a YT video covering the issue, but wondered if there's an update and if there's any particular UK slant on the issue.
