I think he said 98 Euro's, but I can't be sure, can we have some confirmation on that? That aside, isn't this the 4th/5th positive BC experience with these basses?

Right, review and pictures time (apologies for the terrible carpet) for the VT911 Vintage Tube Overdrive: Construction wise: 2 piece body, all the electric gubbins are attached to the top, undo 6 screws and the bottom falls out as it's rather substantial. Nice big and thick rubber pads on the bottom are nice touches. The body is really solid when it's all screwed together, the base is slightly thicker and robust than the top. Paint is quite thin though, I managed to scratch it undoing a screw. Controls operate smoothly and quickly, plastic knobs and plastic shafts on the pots though, so while would probably survive for a long time, dropping/kicking it might sheer the knobs off. Electrics are look fine, some suspect angles on the wire connectors where they've been soldered onto the pcb's, but nothing that'll cause problems (see the pics). There's also a really bright blue LED, and the pedal will only work when there is an input cable in the socket, nice little undocumented feature (bit like activating pre-amps using a stereo jack). The valve wasn't seated properly when I went prodding around inside, but that's down to transport, it still made connection and worked. The only real complaint I've got is that the bypass switch, while functional lacks any sort of positive action (there's no click), so I'd consider maybe replacing it if it was going to be used in anger, even though the case & switch will easily stand you stamping on it. Odd feature: It doesn't like my other psu, which according to the specs on them both output 9v 300ma and have the same polarity on the connectors. Using the non-beringer one causes the pedal to screech like a banshee. Now, soundwise (I've got no experience with valve based stuff before so no comment on the valve itself): It's a distortion box, pure and simple with a little bit of overdrive. Interesting note here, it seems to be much more sensitive with a bass plugged in, the squire telecaster I've got required more extreme movements to alter the sound. Now, it does the overdrive thing a bit too extreme with the standard valve, and it does get awfully noisy as you turn the drive up. For just a bit of valvey crunch I tend to run the drive around 2 or 3, 10 is some really muddy distorted sound which I don't like, however this is running the combo at a really low volume, I might turn it up loud and see how it sounds. The tone control does make a little difference to the sound, but it really operates as a treble control so you'd probably have a bigger effect with an onboard preamp. Volume control does what it says on the tin, the pedal is quite loud so I tend not to turn this past 3ish for my stock Aerodyne. I'll probably change the valve soon to something that is more usable for me, it really starts to distort heavily around 5. Rig: Stock Fender Aerodyne Jazz (p+j), Orange Crush 35b, some sh*tty cables. It would sound much better with a full rig probably. Summary: Build is quite good, not as good as my tonefactor fuzz, but easily on the same level as the Ibanez PD-7 in terms of durability I would have thought. The sound from it favours distortion, and isn't to my taste, needs taming with a less aggressive valve if you want more degrees of crunch and OD. I'd say that the VT999 would be worth the extra £10 for the noisegate, eq controls and general flexability. For £35 though, it gets preliminary 5/10 due to the sound, which will be let down by the cheap valve. How may Basses do we own collectively on Basschat?
Buzz replied to G-77's topic in General Discussion
So, that's 450 +2 = 452 -
A 4ohm cab and an 8ohm cab together pull 2.67 Ohms. 2 Ohms would be the correct setting.
-
However ARGH, you've been rumbled on the price which you wern't going to tell anyone about

Mine came, rather impressed. Quasi Review and pics coming soon. Will be interested to see GreenKings stance on his (which may be the version to get).
better to just post the link mate.. btw it's finished, looked a bit dodgy..
Yeah, but the forum eats links when you edit posts, numbers it won't. Saves hassle in the long run until someone sorts it out.
-
In that case, fair enough. Either way, I'll pull mine apart and do some sort of mini review when I get it.

It also gives me an excuse to use brycebites's valve comparision guide for more than just reading (that should be stickied imo) and to get some valves in my setup after missing out on that Trace amp in october. Edit: £45? I'm seeing around £32/33 http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=VINTAGE...Search+Products Edit2: Ordered from Reidys, 34 all inc delivery (29.99 for the pedal).
hand-selected BUGERA 12AX7B vacuum tube
So, does have a proper tube, and is cheap. I MIGHT order one to see how they are.

New years resolution: Get a half decent rated (rms) combo for use at/around Pompy. Work hard at uni and not leave it to the last minute.

Hello fellow Warwickshirian, welcome to BC. You should fit right in here, and there's quite a few people from the West Mids (although, mainly brummers)

What I want: A time machine, or at least something that stops time for a period. What I'll be getting: Money, chocolate, chocolate money, probably underwear and a few items of clothing. -
I have two at the moment. However, even when I was at home, I kept picking up my Squire VMJ over my aerodyne, mainly because I'm not a big fan of the sound of it, I think I'm erring towards heavier strings (the light EB 40-100's I like but not struck on). But the main thing is that I'm scared of damaging it. Might possibly shift it on in the new year (should be able to get a decent return on it) and get a 2nd hand MIJ/MIA jazzer with some minor cosmetic damage that I won't be scared of damaging. Saying that, I try to keep to one or two basses, I had my peavy and t-bird for a short time together before I flogged one then the other, and I've got a couple of guitars at home as well to play.
-
Woah, nearly 4 grand for a case. Methinks perhaps only worth it if the instrument is something extremely rare and worth about 10k +
-
It's just stiff foam isn't it? I know that's what's been under my basses' and guitars' pups.

'Take it away' promotion by the arts council.....

That's bloody lovely, and I normally dislike gold insturments, but the pattern really breaks it up from solid gold and makes it look lush. -
You say you've moved to 3 fingers, that'll probably be it I would have thought. You'll be used to playing fastish material with 2, 3 fingers work different muscles which you'll probably need to build stamina on. When I first started to learn to play with 3 spotted it (still do as I don't practice it often nor am I that good at it).
This was on Front Row on Radio 4 yesterday. It did give me a chuckle.. Gibson have got some ol guitarist from the Uk on board as a consultant and Front Row had a guy from the Manics check it over .. They both said "great for beginners" basically because it opens their minds to non standard tunings .. This is a £1500 Les Paul. Presumably any beginner guitarists who can afford that will have staff to tune their guitar for them. Gibson's website on the subject says "For as long as the guitar has existed, guitar lovers have had two choices—live with a temperamental and out-of-tune instrument or make frequent trips to the shop for setups. Not anymore. " Gibsons must be pretty sh1te then .....
Remember, we're talking about mainly guitarists, they probably don't know how to setup a guitar properly and tune it.

Tried Seymore duncan's website?

I concur with Acidbass, I was under the impression that using just one output meant both pups are in use anyway. Having two outputs and combining them into one amp seems pointless.

So chaps, if you want ampeg gear, best scrimp your pennies together and buy now while you're guarenteed a USA made one. I suspect as it's Ampeg and the vintage stuff already claims a decent price, this'll make anything USA made climb in price fairly rapidly regardless of whether the China stuff is of the same top notch quality (which it could be if Ampeg get really strict in QC).

First things first: The forum has eaten the links (again). Secondly, prod Captain Japcrap (Bassassin) he'll point you in the right direction.
