  1. I reckon Down Though the Night on Space Ritual is the best example of Lemmy's bass playing, so much drive, energy and melody.
  2. With one of my bands, I spend half the gig removing assorted crap, including drinks, from my amp that the drummer keeps putting there.
  3. I'd like to do something by the Dead, but the thought of Phil Lesh watching me would put me right off! Perhaps White Rabbit with the Airplane, I used to play that with Jenny Haan, one gig we had to play it three times before they let us get off stage! That or Move Over with Janis.
  4. Yeah, the frogs can be a real problem. I did once play a gig under the influence....in the 70s, on synth, not bass...decided it was too dark in stage so wandered around in the audience for a while, I think someone helped me back on the stage after a while. Too long ago to remember much more, other than the overall feeling that playing bass on stage in that state probably wouldn't be such a great idea.
  5. Or even...no, maybe not. Just ignore my profile pic, nothing to see here.
  6. I think you may have misspelt that!
  7. Yep, very interesting and informative thread. Hope you're having a few days well-earned rest after that!
  8. Yeah, it is a versatile bass ( 2 humbuckers with coil taps) but I've some to realise that I don't need a range of tones from a bass, I just need it to sound like a Precision. And I have several of them already, so my EB4 has been in the 'for sale' section for a few weeks now. I'm taking the EB4 with me to a GD rehearsal, as the Precisions don't sound quite right for a 2 guitars/keys/2 drummers band. Also taking my only surviving Jazz bass, so will see how I feel about them tomorrow night. The EB4 is currently withdrawn from sale. I really should keep it, as it is by far the lightest bass I've ever played, and if I sell it, I'll probably injure my arm or back the following day!
  9. If you're happy with the basses you like to play, why force yourself to play a Precision? Play what feels and sounds right to you. For me, that's a Precision, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it if I preferred something else. The music you play is what matters, the instrument is simply a tool to enable you to produce that.
  10. I'm the complete opposite, despite frequent attempts to get along with a Jazz or a Thunderbird, all I really enjoy playing is a Precision. Just one of those things we have to learn to accept, I suppose.
  11. I could arrange some space, but it's difficult to pay at any (in)decent volume here. But I'm sure we could manage something.
  12. Well. it's the differences that make the comparison interesting, different approaches to a similar goal, though obviously some priorities are different. We could try them side by side, same bass, same amp, so only the cabs make a difference to the sound.
  13. It would be interesting to compare it with my Super Compact sometime...
  14. I've got a classic pro iv I never play, but it was a better bass than my 2012 Gibson. My Epi has a Babicz bridge, Gotoh tuners, a hard case and Gibson pick ups (standard on this model). Lovely bass but doesn't suit the music I play now. When the vintage pro was announced, I had one on pre-order for quite a while, but cancelled it when I realised I hadn't played the classic pro for months!
  15. Selling my Zoom IQ6 stereo microphone. This plugs into an iPhone or iPad and provides a significant upgrade in the quality of recorded sound for audio or video tracks. The input level is adjustable. Complete in original packaging, with instructions and foam windshield (still in original bag, unopened). I bought this new for £65 from GAK last November, used it a couple of times to record video of my playing in the house, since when it has been sitting in the box. It works perfectly, but I rapidly realised that I haven't the patience to edit the video I took, and that I am just about the least photogenic human I have seen! I have a Yamaha Pocketrax for sound only recording, and therefore the IQ6 is surplus to requirements. Fifty quid, and I'll pay the postage.
  16. I was busy playing a bass he set up for me recently! He'll be amused to know his name's come up on here, he's not too complimentary about forums! If you see him before I do, ask him about my Epiphone Thunderbird, he was so impressed he's bought one for himself!
  17. Dave Smart now runs Smart Guitars, he's the guy I take my basses to for a proper set up. Top man, I can thoroughly recommend him.
  18. I hate to be late to the PMT love-in, but I can honestly say that the staff at PMT Oxford have always been exceptionally helpful, even going out of their way after shop hours to deliver an amp to my home, more than once. I walked into the store last week, having not been there for several months, and was greeted cheerfully by name. I didn't leave empty handed, but won't say what I bought as it is something that might lead a torchlit mob of bass chatters to my door braying for my blood! Alright, it was a music stand. And I don't care!
  19. I've had similar conversations in quite large shops, they just keep ignoring my question and try to sell me something I don't want because 'they're popular'. I've been playing for decades, I know what I want (well what I want this week, next week might be different!).
  20. Squier often comes out as Squire if you don't keep a close eye on your autocorrect, and as Fender if you do.
  21. People used to call them epiphany, but then they saw the light. Only Dion I know is a Canadian chap who lives down the road. Good bloke, plays drums. I'll have to ask him about Warwick. Come to think of it, war-wick does make sense, we used to have an air freshener called air-wick. We never called it airick. The there's the town of Alnwick....silent L and silent W.
