  1. At least that would be recognisable. Can't remember what we called them in Finland, except Kallis (expensive!). Probably just 'Fenderi'
  2. Doesn't even begin to sound like Fender, even in Japanese.
  3. This thread is a perfect example of why all of basses (except the aforementioned episodic T bird) are Fenders. I've never heard anyone mispronounce Fender as 'Fender' or FenDer or feeeender. Not once.
  4. Being unable to stand still while playing is a good sign, because that's how the audience should feel too (unless they decide you look desperate for a pee and all crowd into the loos instead!)
  5. My epic scone fake Gibson Thunderbird is a better bass than the jen you wine Gibson that I used to have - when I needed room for a new bass, the Gibbo was easy to sell for 3 times what I'm likely to get for the episcopal version, though. My local luthier/guitar tech was so impressed by my epidermal 'bird that he bought one for himself, but he is of the opinion that mine is unusual in having just the right feel & sound about it, a rather special bass. Unfortunately, I hardly ever play it, just doesn't suit the music of the bands I'm in anymore.
  6. Wish I could still bend my knees like that!
  7. Might be easier if we just called them 'affordable Gibsons'.
  8. Crackers. Ritz do crackers. Which is why, when someone pretends to be a bit nuts, it's called 'putting on the ritz'.
  9. Rubbish! It's scone, not scone! Some people, eh!
  10. Setting off for this in an hour or so, been looking forward to it since it was announced before Christmas!
  11. All sets sold now, thank you! I have four two sets of D'Addario Chromes (flat wound bass strings) for sale, all both are 4 string sets, both have been used briefly, full details of each set below. The asking price is per set, plus postage. One set ECB81 (45 - 100), used for a short time on an Epiphone Jack Casady bass, so they are suitable only for two each side headstocks. These will not fit a Fender four in line headstock. £20.00 plus post unless collected. Two one sets ECB81 (45 - 100), was on a Fender for about a month but unplayed, so will be a direct fit onto any 34" scale Fender style bass, or could be trimmed to fit a two tuner each side headstock. £20.00 plus post unless collected. now sold One set ECB82 (50-105) was on a Fender Precision for a few weeks, gigged once. Bass now sold. As above, will fit standard Fender four a side headstock basses or could be trimmed to suit a four a side head. £20.00 plus post unless collected. This set now sold None of these strings were installed through body, all used standard bridge stringing. None have been subjected to any strain, such as higher than standard tunings, all were in perfect condition when removed from the basses. They can be collected from West Oxfordshire or posted at cost. I am selling them as I have discovered that I prefer LaBella flats, they suit my playing style and the type of music I play a little better than the Chromes, though I still have Chromes on basses that are several years old! I can't see the point of taking pictures of these, they are long, thin and shiny, just like any set of Chromes would be! No fret wear is apparent on any of these strings.
  12. Yeah, I'd just woken up when I wrote that! Only just realised what compete nonsense I wrote, I obviously should have stayed asleep! Make that 'heard and not seen, unlike Victorian children'!
  13. I'm still using Super Twin #001, after many gigs it still looks exactly as it did when I collected it from BF in Brighton. It even has all three original handles in perfect working order. I'd rather use a black cab than red or yellow, the backline is there to be seen, not heard. Just like Victorian children! Just realised that my fingers typed the complete opposite of what my brain was thinking! It should have read: 'heard and not seen, unlike Victorian children!'
  14. I know, I know...but the house is full of basses, so I've got 3 up for sale to clear some room and let me concentrate on playing the damn things! If I can get down to three Precisions and my old Jazz bass, I'll feel comfortable.
  15. I use Ashdown amps (two Rootmaster 800s) and Barefaced cabs (Super Twin & Super Compact). They certainly work very well together.
  16. My Hercules stand has been consigned to the loft for the last year since it fell over during an interval and deposited one of my basses into the drum kit. The guitarist was nearby but swore he hadn't knocked it. I'm still not sure...might have to get it back out and try again, it was a very useful way of having two easily accessible basses on stage.
  17. SOLD This bass weighs 4,230 grams ready to play, according to both our new kitchen scales and my old fishing scales. I am reluctant to post/courier this, so would prefer collection or a meet up. I live between Abingdon and Witney in West Oxfordshire, and the bass can be tried here through my gigging amp and cab. There is nothing to fault on this bass, it plays beautifully, sounds tremendous, and is perfectly set up (I had the bass set up by Smart Guitars of Oxford). I am selling it simply because I have three other US Standard Precisions, and really need to release some of the money I have tied up in equipment as well as gain some space in our small house. Why am I selling this one rather than one of the others? Simple! The guitarist in one of my bands insists that I never sell my 2012 white Precision as he loves the sound (to be honest, I think all of my Precisions sound the same!) and the other two are sunburst, and I love sunburst! Black is a cool colour, but I prefer the others, simply on their looks. Sale only, no trades, as I need to end up with less stuff after selling the basses I currently have advertised. Pictures attached, they don't really show a lot, it's not easy photographing a shiny black bass!
  18. I have to tie my Barefaced cabs to the stage to stop them floating away!
  19. I saw an Ashdown CTM 30 in PMT today, and remembered this thread. I used valve amps long ago, and remember them fondly. Then I tried to pick up the CTM. It seemed to have been glued to the cab beneath it which in turn had been glued to the floor. I thought of my Rootmaster 800 and Barefaced cabs and moved swiftly on.
  20. Thanks, Dave, I certainly landed on my feet with this one, excellent musicians, all of them, and two drummers who can really play makes for some interesting rhythmic possibilities.
  21. Yeah, it is, we rehearse in Leicester, my 95 mile drive is by no means the longest! They've not put me on the facebook page yet, we were talking about new picture etc on Sunday.
