  1. Obviously, surprised you felt the need to ask!
  2. I know a place not too far away where you can get a fix of flats anytime of day or night, knock three times and whisper the password '1958 Precision & LaBella flats' and they'll look after you alright.
  3. Go to bed and take two elephants wouldn't sound quite right, though, would it? (unless you're into that sort of thing, of course)
  4. I was playing in a studio Leicester today, I'll make sure they know about the theft in case they're offered anything dodgy.
  5. THIS is the one that convinces me. Written terms I can understand, visualise, and agree with. You have won the thread, sir!
  6. I had a couple of Framus Jazz basses in the 70s, they were a cut above the run of the mill copy.
  7. Thanks for doing the washing up while you were there, the wife thought I'd done it, but only just got home from a gig!
  8. If I had the time, I'd listen to all of the live albums of the Grateful Dead. I've got about 85 of them on my computer but there many more, so I'd need food and 'comfort' breaks.
  9. The goat would appreciate not being mentioned, so we won't.
  10. That's the last time I tell you anything in confidence!
  11. I often do this as well, it works fine for learning new material. It os even loud enough for playing to music from my laptop's little built in speakers. No quality to speak of, but if you just need to learn stuff, it works fine. I do this with my wife sleeping in the next room and she never hears a thing.
  12. And there was me thinking a dyad was some kind of mythical creature, like a faun.
  13. I am lucky enough to live in a fairly central location, halfway between London and Bristol, with good road links to most parts of the country. I have driven 2 hours or more in each direction to meet buyers or sellers rather then trust an instrument to a courier. When I sold my Thunderbird a couple of months ago, I drove to Leicester (180 mile round trip, 2 hours each way) and the buyer came down from Darlington (a good bit further!) but we both considered it worth doing.
  14. With a little imagination you can feel and hear 'through' the strings. I prefer flats on my Precisions, yet I have never seen one in shop with anything but harsh twangy rounds on.
  15. I didn't say there was anything wrong with them, just that they shouldn't be used as a benchmark of quality just because Fender or Gibson decided to put them on their instruments. I bought a new Fender last week and the first thing I did when it arrived was change the strings.
  16. Nah, they all wear flats, all Precision sound and feel so right with flats! None of the bands I play in need a bass that zings.
  17. I thought 'stock' just meant 'the cheapest deal the manufacturer could get'.
  18. I'm rather relying on that! Either that or most of them will have become firewood, but at 1250 quid a pop that's not too likely! My view after a week or so of ownership & two string changes is that it is a better bass than it looks. Once the novelty wears off, I suspect I'll pick one of my US Standards for gigs more often than the road worn, but only time can say if that's true.
  19. Yes, the MiM 50s classic roadworn, just back from it's first rehearsal, felt and sounded great, even through a rehearsal studio's amp & cab. I'll be trying it through my own gear at next Saturday's gig. I'm not over-keen on the uniform wear-by-template of these basses, but they do sound and feel more authentic than they look!
  20. I recently bought a small combo for home use, I learn new material by playing along with recordings, but the volume is lower than my neighbour's cello when she practices. I know this because I can hear her play (and very nice it is too!) but I have asked them and they don't hear me.
  21. I played the Bass Direct one just before Christmas. Felt a little nicer to play than my Classic 50s Precision (same thing but 'modern' paint and no wear on it). Was only there to buy strings, so left it where I found it. I might have been tempted to buy it had it had strings on that impressed me, as it was, the fitted round wounds were not to my taste. Having said that, a week later, and under the affluence of inkerhol, I bought a new Road Worn on line, changed the strings as soon as it arrived and love it! I am loathe to get shot of my Classic 50s, but if one of them had to go, it would be that one.
  22. very small bits of broken cheesy crisps, I believe.
