  1. Last gig of the year for the Wirebirds last night. Fittingly, it was in the same place that we played out 2016 and welcomed in 2017. Our guitarist is heading back to St Helena in a few days, returning mid January. Definitely a good way to end the year, if a little early. Pub was well filled, we celebrated a good friend's 60th (he is sleeping on my sofa downstairs as I type this!) and generally had a good time. Played two sets, first was about 50 mins, second was nearly two hours. Introduced a new song to the set that we had never played before, as in never rehearsed, nothing, just went for it cold in the second set and it went down well. I'll need to find something else to keep me out of trouble for the next six weeks now though!
  2. Mr. Impatience here just dragged the Jazz out of the pile of stuff ready for tonight, removed the scratch plate in order to see the part number and guess what?? No bloody part number on it! Oh well. It looks nicer than any of the Fender tort guards I've got, but I still don't know whether I can get better. It doesn't have any trace of an aroma about it, but neither does my cellulose finished jazz (the other one, not the one with this plate on it) now it's a few years old. I think I need to find something less trivial to occupy my brain cell!
  3. Doesn't smell of anything, so must be the vinyl version. Interestingly (perhaps!) they are both the same price.
  4. Looking at WD's main site, it seems they do very similar 'plates in celluloid and vinyl, so I'll need to take mine off and check the part number to be sure. The bass is packed ready for tonight's gig, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow now.
  5. I didn't know they were celluloid, I bought a used one last week here on the forum, it is now adorning my US Jazz. I'll have a better look at it!
  6. Beautiful, bit of an eye-watering price tag, though.
  7. I've been very happy with my ACS pro plugs for over 4 years now, next to my bass, they are the most essential thing I take with me when I gig. I bought mine from their place in Banbury. Friendly and helpful people, too.
  8. Ouch, that's about £150 plus shipping and import duty, etc....and I've got five Fenders wearing tort, and a serious case of tort envy!
  9. Lovely...must be hard work wiping all the drool off it at gigs, though. Checked Spitfire's page but can't see prices...my local luthier makes tort plates, I'll have to ask to see some when I visit next week to collect the Precision he's been making more precise. I'll probably take a Jazz bass over there soon for added jazziness. Not sure what he can do to a Thunderbird!* *Not strictly true, he's had that in already and improved it beyond belief!
  10. Well, that certainly puts my modern 'plates to shame...2018 could be the year of the great scratch plate upgrade for me!
  11. I reckon my EB4 looks better than that non-reverse T bird, and I had a couple of T birds until recently (just one now)
  12. Seems it can mean almost anything from that!
  13. I was lost from the word 'trolleys' to be honest. As I have no idea what they are, the presence or otherwise of a giant codpiece doesn't really matter.
  14. Lovely bass, if I hadn't bought two last month...and Faringdon's only a short drive away. We may well have met, I live in Standlake and have played at Follyfest every year since 2013.
  15. I'd gratefully accept any tip I was offered! I think we've had a few of a tenner, never more though.
  16. Between the two of us, I'd rather be gigging (my band mates are friends anyway) than sat at home any night of the year! I was always first to volunteer for Christmas and New Year duty when I was in TV news as at least I wasn't stuck at home with the bloody telly on!
  17. Here's some of my Fenders, all US Standards.
  18. I've got a couple of Jazz basses myself, don't play them much though. I think the EB neck is slightly wider than a standard Jazz, but definitely narrower than a standard Precision. My favourite neck is the 1 3/4" one on the classic 50s Precision, though.
  19. I probably would, so long as they didn't smell like a bucket of turds...if the bass feels good and sounds good, that's all that matters. My only complaint about the EB4 is that the neck is quite narrow, almost as narrow as a Jazz bass, and I prefer a chunky Precision myself.
  20. Hard to believe so many people are that bothered by what a bass looks like. They play well and sound good, what's not to like? I play my Fender Precisions far more than the EB4, but it's still a good bass.
  21. That's what I've got, but in 2 tone sunburst. It's a very playable bass.
  22. We had a NYE booking (same place as the last 2 years) but had to cancel as our guitarist is going home for Christmas. As home is a small island in the middle of the South Atlantic, he'll be away for 6 weeks or so. So our last gig of the year is this Saturday. I did get a booking from the venue for another band I'm involved with, but the venue have decided not to have live music this NYE.
