  1. Looks like the Babicz bridge, same as my EB4. Bloody good bridges!
  2. I suspect the perceived crime may be disproving the old adage that Gibson 'can't make a bass to save their lives'. I've been happily noodling away on my EB 4 for the last 40 mins or so, and despite being primarily a Fender player, the Gibson doesn't disappoint.
  3. This thread has made me get my EB 4 off the wall and I'm sitting here now reacquainting myself with the wide range of tones it is capable of. Very light, too, I'll hang on to it as a 'third set' bass for those long gigs where the weight of a Precision starts to get tiring in the third hour.
  4. If it plays and sounds anything like my 2017 EB4, it's worth getting used to the looks (can't see anything wrong with it, myself, though)
  5. Nor do I, it expired a few years ago.
  6. I watched it to the very end. I also suspect that the reason many people have latched on to his views on exploitation and ethics is because that was in the first five minutes and it may be all they watched. It's not the most visually stimulating video, to be fair, but it is worth listening to in full.
  7. We charged double our normal fee for my local pub last year. We were re-booked for this year, but had to cancel as our guitarist is away for the whole of December and half of January. I offered the LL another band I work with, but she has decided not to have a band for NYE this year.
  8. I have to reluctantly agree with BRX on this, in the video he describes himself as an artist, yet most of the guitars on his company's website are essentially copes, or close copies of very traditional designs. Personally, I am conservative in my choice of bass, and half of mine are Fender Precisions. That's the half I play most, as well. My reluctance is because I know how hard things are for any business in Finland (taxation, red tape, distance and weather being the prime factors) and, having spent some of the best years of my life living there, I have every sympathy with him.
  9. It says on his Wikiedia timeline that he received the degree of Master Luthier in 2009. Having lived and worked in Finland for many years, I can tell you that everyone there seems to have a qualification in something. Even people working in the big shops there like Prisma and Citymarket will have spent 2 or 3 years at college in order to gain a qualification in shop work.
  10. I have had both the ABM 600 and the Rootmaster 800 recently. I sold the ABM as the Rootmaster is at least as good and is much smaller and lighter.
  11. I power my Super Compact with as Ashdown Rootmaster 800 and it has plenty of power to spare! For really noisy gigs, I use the same amp into my Super Twin, which is effectively two Super Compacts in one cab. No one has ever told me I'm too quiet!
  12. I have nothing to contribute to this thread, but I would like to say it is a very interesting and thought-provoking read.
  13. I am currently using a knife, plate, tub of peanut butter and some crackers. If you mean musical gear....Fender Precisions (x4), Ashdown Rootmaster 800s (x2), Barefaced cabs (x2).
  14. No, I don't feel the need for anything new, that's the problem, the puzzling absence of GAS. I perfectly happy with what I've got for the first time in living memory! Be interesting to see how long this situation lasts...
  15. I'm sure the word 'responsible' never left my keyboard. I certainly wouldn't use it to describe myself!
  16. I suspect it means you (probably temporarily) lack the rampant consumerism that is an essential part of society today.
  17. Ability is something you can learn, passion is something you are born with. If you have the passion, you'll learn the ability. Doesn't work the other round, though.
  18. I've had an amp fail on me during the first song (quickly replaced with my identical back up from the car) and a Jazz bass fall from its stand and almost completely sever the G string when it hit a cymbal on the way to the ground. I played the second set using the back up Precisipn bass from the car.... Both of these mishaps happened this year, and both at the same gig! They recently asked us to play there again on a Friday the 13th....we got it moved to the 6th!
  19. Thanks, Dave, glad someone appreciates and understands the mental anguish this is causing. I'll get all my listed and offered at too-good-to-be-true prices and then, once my spare room is empty, hopefully the pleasing reassurance of GAS will return. Your offer of a smart white jacket is noted and appreciated. My size is XL.
  20. And surely that's easier than ever today, with simple free software that allows you to isolate short sections of any piece of music and loop it unusual you lock in, then move on to the next section. Far better that lifting and dropping the needle back a few groove and wearing the record out!
  21. Saw right through that one - I can't have just one bass singled out for criticism!
  22. I strongly object to being told a I have a seriously shite bass - I have a whole room full of them!
