I'm taking my Super Compact, light as a feather (well, a feather from a bloody enormous bird!) and the rest of the band can hump the PA speakers in and out.

He's probably a member here who has read all the things you shouldn't put in an advert. So he hasn't!

Just read through this thread, the pain in my left arm has today been diagnosed as a combination of tennis and golfers elbow (not that I play either, on affects the inside of the sow, the other the outside. Apparently!). Given some exercises to do, bought a tennis elbow clasp to wear when gigging and more tubes of ibugel (anti inflammatory ointment, not an apple trumpet). Physio suggested narrower necked basses might help, great news when I've recently bought a Classic 50s Precison with a 1 3/4" nut! Might have to blow the dust off a jazz bass for this week's gigs. Strongly suspect that it's because I've been doing all my heavy lifting (cabs, etc) with my left arm due to knackering my right wrist in a bike accident 2 years ago.

That makes sense to me.

No able to report on the improvement until next week, I managed to be out when the next day delivery arrived, so now have to wait until Monday.
They haven't - it's a Babicz 3 point replacement bridge on the new ones. The picture of the old one had a 3 point bridge on it, perhaps that's what you were thinking of.
Probably was, just looked at a pic in this thread and assumed it was the bass under discussion. The Babicz bridge is definitely worth having!
-
Pick ups look the same as on my EB4, they sound good and have coil taps built in (at least, mine does!) so they are quite versatile. Shame they've gone for the crappy 3 point bridge, though, the EB4 comes with Babicz as standard, a far better option.

Thanks, hopefully I'm not wasting my money then! I should have it tomorrow with luck, so will report back once I've tried it.
Dave, aren't you in enough bands already?
Only two at the moment, I had a bit of a cull and quit five!

No, the phone is on a stand and definitely clean. I've gone ahead and ordered a zoom mic for it anyway (patience has never been my strong point!) and I'll try it on the weekend. Basically experimenting with recording sound & vision of myself playing, trying to put a kind of showreel together for when I am looking for a new band. Prompted by someone recently asking me for just that, and all I could offer was other people's footage of me playing in various bands, but not exactly advertising myself. Anyway, it's a little project to keep me busy for a while.

I am responsible for sourcing all of our gigs except one this year, last year, in fact bar a couple that our harp man got (at a festival he organised, so doesn't really count!) I have got all the rest of the gigs (150 or so). Being fed up with it doesn't begin to describe it, every time someone complains about the pay, the location, or anything else, I get one step closer to walking away.
-
Just wondering whether anyone here has any experience of the Zoom IQ6 microphone for iPhones. I have been trying to record some demo video with my phone, and while the picture quality is fine, the sound is thin. I am fairly sure this is down to the phone mic, and googling suggests the Zoom plug in mic as a significant improvement. However, it's not cheap and I'd appreciate some feedback from anyone who has (or used) one of these before buying (or not!). Cheers.

I have a Babicz bridge on an Epiphone Thunderbird (the through neck, Gibson pick up one) and it's excellent. The EB4 I bought recently comes fitted with a Babicz as standard, and again, it is an excellent piece of kit. I'm happy with the stock bridges on my Fenders, though, not sure it is worth the time and money involved in changing them for the difference it might make.

I don't think it is realistic to deny the influence of the Beatles, even to the extent of acknowledging that they were certainly the most influential pop group of our times, but I didn't care for their music in the 60s and I still don't.

Cheers, I'm often in Swindon, but the only Wirebirds gigs left this this year (unless we get any late bookings) are in Melksham and here in West Oxfordshire. Our guitarist is going home for Christmas at the end of November (he's from St. Helena, which is a bloody long way to go!). I would have thought that for home use, the Barefaced Midget or 1 10 would be ideal. I was surprised by the quality of the sound from the Rootmaster, in fact after buying one as a back up to my ABMs, I have sold both ABMs and now just have two RM800s.
-
My 'home' rig is an Ashdown Rootmaster 800 & Barefaced Super Compact, which is (unsurprisingly!) fairly compact, but loud enough to double as my small venue gig rig.
Played the first verse of "Thrill Is Gone" in a different key than the rest of the band last weekend. That'll get you noticed. Blue Blue
I'll try that next gig, I reckon a semitone shift would ensure maximum attention!

He can't be all bad, after all, he is a Dave!

FENDER PRECISION USA, SUNSET ORANGE, ***SOLD THANKS.***

Lovely bass, I'm sure you'll be very happy together!
-
Well done, cheers. Managed to agree the sale for the exact same price I paid for a Precision easier in the week, so that is a direct swap in effect. Pity I collected the P on Monday (from near Leicester) as we're doing the T bird deal on Saturday (also near Leicester!). Could have saved a few hour of driving if things had been better co-ordinated, but it's still a good result for me.
-
Yep, the white and rosewood 2012 US Standard Precision I got 4 years ago in a swap with a basschatter for a Jazz bass is probably as close to perfect as I will ever get. Hasn't stopped me buying more basses, mind you, but is still my #1 gigging bass. If I hit a financial iceberg and had to sell everything except one bass, that's the one I'd keep.
