Whack up a photo of them together! I used to have loads of Jazz Basses - got none now!
Which two? The two T birds, or the bird and the new P?
-
I'm sure you won't regret it, they're great basses and I know I'll miss it, but I need money and space and this was the easiest one to part with. I've still got a through neck Epiphone T bird, with gibbo pick ups, babizc bridge, Gotoh tuners....it's a T bird through and through, but wouldn't have raised the money I need to pay for one of the two Precisions I've bought in the last couple of weeks!

The first guitar I had was an Audition 6 string electric from Woolworths, but after a few months i had changed to bass, playing an anonymous plywood semi-acoustic with no paint or any kind of finish at all. It wasn't mine, but someone lent it me for a few months. I next played a short sale Burns (again, just bare wood) until I was able to buy my own bass, a short scale Vox from a neighbour. I think I paid about 7 quid for it. I can't remember what I was using as an amp, I remember making speaker cabs in the woodwork class at school. I finally bought a Selmer Treble & Bass 50 in the mid 70s and used for the next 10 years or so. I also remember a no-name Fender-ish long scale with a single pick-up that was in terrible condition, so I stripped and sprayed it white and made a scratch plate out of formica. I think that one broke its neck when it fell over. I then moved up market and my first 'proper' bass about 1976 or 7 was a Framus Jazz bass (and here's a pic to prove it!
I thought the T-bird was a keeper?
So did I, but something has to go to pay for the new Precision, and to make space for it. The T bird is a lovely bass, but I haven't gigged it much, still tend to reach for a Fender when going out.

I think I should avoid playing anything better my current basses, I'm all spent out now! Not sure I'd be comfortable with a genuine vintage instrument at pub gigs, either

No problem, that's what these threads are for, I reckon. I've not had a chance to compare my 2012 (or 2015) Precisions with anything older, but my understanding is that there were substantial changes made for the 2012 model year. Certainly, there is little to choose between my 2012 Precisions and my 2015 model.
I agree. My band can set up in 10 minutes and get off stage in 5, no problem, but lots of others just seem to take ages. If every single band were as quick as we are (and some have some complicated setups) then 15 minutes changeover would still be too tight.
Anytime I've played in a multi band, short turnaround situation, the back line is provided (often by the 'main' band, sometimes by the organisers) and the drummer only needs breakables s the rest of the kit is in place and ready mic'd. For me, setting up means plugging my bass into the amp and I'm ready to go, leaving the stage means simply put amp on mute, unplug the lead and walk off. More like 15 seconds than 15 minutes!

It's a little more careful finished the the 50s classic - the rolled fretboard edges are good on all of my US Standards, but it doesn't have the vintage feel of that big wide neck on the 50s. I just love Precision basses in all their many forms! The 50s Classic is certainly no slouch, and I paid slightly less for that new than I've paid for the used Standard, though yesterday's bass came with a quality Fender case, whereas the Classic just comes in a gig bag. I now have one too many basses, so there is a Gibson Thunderbird up for sale in the relevant part of the forum!

Sitting here playing the lovely P bass I bought yesterday from Mr Playbass of this forum. This is my third post 2012 US Standard and seems every bit as good as my other two. I've really got to stop buying them now though! Quick pic of it lying on my lap to prove it exists!

I bought playbass's Sunburst, maple, and tort Precision today, and a very fine bass it is too. He efficiently arranged a meet up which enable me to combine it with a trip to sort out some other business on the way there, and the bass was exactly as described and well looked after. I hope I can do it justice!
been using ashdown for years and never had a muddy sound, the higher end rootmasters are great littlw amps not lacking in heft, but word says that the ABMs are a step up
I changed to Rootmasters after years of ABMs simply because of the size and weight, which probably isn't an issue for anyone who hasn't injured their right hand! Very satisfied with the sound and power of the Rootmaster, though.
Great crowd, over $125.00 in tips alone (I know you guys frown on tips, but tips are a big part of our culture). Blue
I certainly wouldn't frown on tips, especially of that much! Sadly, it's just not something people do over here very often.
On Friday night I was playing a pub with a rock covers trio. We had just gone back on after the break when a lady of a certain age approached the stage area and asked, 'Are you the band?' I swiftly replied, 'No, we're painters and decorators'.
Not a bad name for a band 'painters and decorators' or 'Painter and the Decorators"

I had several blokes come and talk about my bass playing night (no, it wasn't THAT bad!) and hugs and kisses from several young ladies, so I don't think we are always ignored!

I need to make room for an incoming bass as I have reached my limits, both financially and in storage space. This is a lovely bass both to look at and to play, and has a rich sound all of its own, but Precisions are my first love and will always be my first choice when playing. So, we have a here a 2012 Gibson Thunderbird, made in the USA, in absolutely perfect condition. There is not a scratch, dent chip or flaw of any description anywhere on this bass. I bought this earlier this year from a bass chatter who had owned it from new but never gigged it, I have played about a dozen gigs with it, but have gone back to my old faithful Precisions, which just seem more natural for my style of playing. The bass includes the Gibson fitted hard shell case, which is also in excellent condition. I prefer to avoid posting/couriering basses as I have had a bad experience in the past, and this one is simply too beautiful an object to risk damaging it at the hands of the delivery firms. This really is a bass that anyone would be proud to own, as I have been, but hard reality means something has to go. Available to try out at my house between Abingdon and Witney in West Oxfordshire (about 10 miles from Oxford and 20 from Swindon) or will meet a buyer up to about 50 miles from here.

Not long back from the Wirebirds Halloween gig for the year. In Swindon again, in contrast to last year, this one had a very good turn out, lots of audience participation (I had to remove our guitarist's Strap from a punter's hands at one point) but a lot of fun. I played my new Classic 50s Precision for the first set, and my old faithful white US standard P for the second. The classic hasn't been set up properly yet, so after 50 mins playing my left hand welcomed the change. They were played through an Ashdown Rootmaster 80 evo and Barefaced Super Twin - a lovely combination. I was asked to judge the fancy dress comp which was a bit of fun as well!

I just write the key and the chord sequence if not blindingly obvious on the set list and take it from there. I usually just glance at that between songs, I'd feel very unprepared if I needed to read the chords as I played them.

We bought a pair of Alto 1x12 + horn powered speakers, 400w RMS (or was it 300? They're in the car ready for tonight's gig) and they work really well. Got them from a mate down the road who bought for a huge disco rig he was putting together but barely used before he had to sell it all off in a divorce. He still has a pair of similar speakers but with 15" drivers that he wants to sell.
