Never mind how much it cost, how does it sound??
-
If it's the same as the Epi I've got (Gibson pick ups and a through neck) then it is too close to the Gibson in every respect to tell the difference.
That's how I play mine, not had any complaints about the sound, quite the opposite in fact.
Good, thank you, I'll try mine when I can put my Precision down!
Tort with maple fingerboards = NO (unless it's a natural finish body) Tort on black bodies = No
Can't agree with that, I had a mex Precision that was black, maple, and tort and it was a damn fine looking instrument. Really regret letting it go. My black n maple US Standard Precision will be fitted with the tort guard I have ready for it next month when I change strings.

Well done, that one had been gnawing away at me for months! I have recently discovered a way round my injuries to allow me to play a modified finger style, so my pick playing days may well be numbered. Then I will discover whether the 'birds are any good played that way.

I have a black/maple Precision which is currently fitted with a black scratch plate, but have bought a tort one (cheers, Lozz!) which will adorn it in the near future.

I've done approx 150 gigs with the wirebirds and joined them as a start up band from am advert on JMB, so the preconceptions can be wrong. I've also followed up a few adverts that looked promising but were just daydreamers.

I do my best to avoid PMT stores as I find it very hard to walk out without buying something! I was in the Oxford store a few days ago and did well to only buy a strap. Previous visits have cost me much, much more!
Nice one Dave, I've been lucky. We've played the same Holloween gig for the past 6 years. Ariba's in Butler WI, 7:00-11:00. Nice hours and nice pay. It's also a great sounding room. Thinking about gigging the 1991 Gibson Bird. My quarter inch lead seems to pop out for some reasons. Do I have to tighten the nut around the input? Hope there's a lot of Sexy Nurse costumes. Lol Blue
I don't think we've played the same venue twice at Halloween (maybe one, I'd have to check my records). Last year was the only flat one, possible because the venue was advertising the wrong day (but the right date!). Not seen any sexy nurse at any of our gigs...most halloween party goers seem to go for gore and horror themes. So long as they're enjoying themselves and spending plenty at the bar, we're happy! Hope you can sort the 'bird out, might need a new socket by the sound of it.

The Wirebirds have had a Halloween gig every year since we started, and this year it is at the Blunsdon Arms in Swindon on Saturday. There will be fancy dress (our drummer is especially keen on this, he also decorates his kit) and hopefully a lot of audience participation.
Well done on both respects there FinnDave. Glad the new P did the job nicely, and good news about the fingerstyle. Sounds like real progress!
Thanks, it felt/feels like real progress after 2 years of being unable to play as I used to.

I have to agree with Lozz, the US standard Precisions (especially post 2012) are excellent - I have a couple and they are my most gigged basses. The Mex classic basses are pretty close, but I've not had my classic 50s P long, and only time will reveal its faults. So far, after a few days of ownership and one gig, it is my current favourite.
I was joking, hence the grin. OMs can be a lot of fun. Please ignore me, I'm having a weird day.
Weird days are the best sort of day to have
Sorry, I forgot to add " ", " " and " ", and so forth to my previous comment...
I didn't notice, I was having a quick 40 winks between the E and A strings while guitarist finished his solo

Living in the country, loike what I does, the big ole wide neck feels like the pace of life round these parrrts. Them there jazz basses n thundering birrds are just rushing along too farst for the loikes of I.

A gig is something you are booked to do in advance, whether paid or not. An impromptu jam is not a gig, in my opinion (but they are often more fun than a gig!)
These are great basses. You really can't beat a 7.25" radius, 1.75" nut, one-piece maple neck. Feels like home to me. Very nice. I must get another...
The only trouble is that it makes playing my Jazz basses (& Thunderbirds) feel like driving in London after the empty roads of west Oxfordshire!

Just received a scratch plate from Lozz, quick and easy transaction, plate was well packed and is exactly as he described. I'll be fitting it to a Precision bass I had off Lozz last year!

We've done a few 'charity' gigs over the last few years, in one case, the person running it absconded with the dosh (obviously someone who believes that charity begins at home!) and in no case ever have further, paid, bookings resulted. I also believe that you get treated according to what you're worth to the organisers - if you're playing for free, they can treat you like dirt as they have nothing to lose. I removed my gear from the stage and walked away from one 'charity' gig (followed by the rest of the band) when they allowed the band on before us to continue to the point that we would have had about a ten minute set. I am certain they wouldn't have treated us like that if we were costing them money. They'd kept us (and our dep drummer who was doing us a huge favour) waiting for 3 or 4 hours before that. -
You may end up hailing a taxi to get from one side to the other!!
I'm in luck - one of the last remaining bus routes in Oxfordshire has stops at the E and G strings on my bass!
As one who has mainly played and owned Jazzes over the years, my only concern is the thickness and width of the neck......
The difference between this neck and a standard Precision is about the same as the difference between a standard Precision and a Jazz...
