1. Just back from another Swindon gig. Only booked to do this one a couple of days ago as the band originally booked have a member sick. Not surprisingly, there weren't many there, but those that were were quite enthusiastic. Two 45 min sets, paid and packed up, home at midnight, not bad for a gig 40 mins drive away! Only out of the house for 5 hours, almost a record. Not a tremendously satisfying gig, our 4th time at the same venue this year and the smallest crowd by far, but we played well enough. Next gig is in Oxford next Thursday.
 2. Is this still for sale, and if so, where are you?
 3.
Damn! Now I've got some very incriminating browsing history that's going to be very difficult to explain when I get a knock on the door from the tortporn police!
I didn't see the original post, but now I've clicked on the link you thoughtlessly included I will never feel quite the same about the tort guard on my white Precision again. Damn tort GAS!
 4.
Which was exactly my point Dave, although perhaps not as clearly made
5.
One man's 'rehearsing' is another man's 'playing music with mates for the pleasure of it'
I think there's a difference, 'rehearsing' means doing something in order to prepare it for performance, playing with mates for the pleasure of it is an end in itself. Both equally valid, but to my mind, a rehearsal is playing with gigging as the goal.
 6.
We can play at home for the joy and gigging is always a joy. The only difference is when you gig you get joy and money. Blue
That's not the only difference for me, Blue - at a gig you get joy, money, and audience reaction/feedback, which is the most important reason for gigging in my my book.
 7. Sorry it's not working out for you, Dave. As the previous owner of this one, I can confirm that it is a lovely bass, I sold it only because I have no room for it!
 8.
DV haven't been a UK concern for their mail-order activities for quite a few years now. This makes very interesting reading about the situation and will hopefully make people re-consider using them, in light of their overall attitude.
Indeed, very interesting, I certainly won't use them again.
 9.
I often found that gigging was the necessary evil of being in a band. I aways enjoyed rehearsing with good mates, loved the no pressure vibe and all the banter/good naturedness. Gigging was sometimes as much fun, but most of the time not so. There's a sense in which rehearsing is equivalent to jogging, and gigging equivalent to entering a 5k race. I'm more than happy to jog
Interesting, as I am the complete opposite. I feel that rehearsing is a necessary evil in order to gig. For me, all the joy of playing is performing in front of an audience. My current band haven't rehearsed for months, we just gig, and if we want to try a new song, circulate it amongst ourselves then refine it over a few gigs.
 10. I expect to be playing 2-6 gigs a month, anything less is not worth bothering with. Ideally, two gigs per weekend, not always possible, but an ideal to aim for.
 11. Soon as I see the word 'Broughton' I have 'Out Demons Out' going through my head for the next 24 hours!
 12. I usually just type 'Dunlop strap locks'into eBay search and list by 'lowest price incl p&p', just as I do for strings.
 13.
What about a Super Twin?
The Super Twin definitely has more 'presence' than the Super Compact, I have both and prefer the 'oomph' of the Twin, but for small gigs, the Compact is easier to transport. Had I bought the compact first, I would simply have bought another for the bigger venues, but as I started out with the Twin, I now have the option of 1, 2, or 3 speakers!
 14.
And why would you be? You're not bald.
Not in the slightest, I'm a right hairy bastard, me! I don't own a music stand, either.
 15. I'd better keep a low profile, I posted a pic in this thread in which I am wearing a hat, a waistcoat, shades AND playing with a pick. And what is more, I am not in the least bit ashamed of myself!
 16. F#, without a doubt. Only the lowest one, of course.
 17. Been playing over 40 years, never played slap, never wanted to, never been asked to.
 18.
Check out one of the long standing local covers bands: http://www.oxfordmai...r_music_career/ Note the leather trousers for completion of the ensemble...
That's bit too local, I grew up near Florence Park and know the guy's brother, and his band.
 19.
How can you 2 pages from this.?
Boredom, it'll run on for a few more yet!
 20. Not long back from another Friday night gig. Much better than last Friday, but not as good as last Saturday. I was feeling very tired, and the heat in the pub didn't help, and for some reason I had decided to use a Precision for the first set and a Thunderbird for the second. Despite my years of playing Ps, I knew it was a mistake from the first song, so glad to change in the break. I started the second set with next to no sound, until I discovered that I'd plugged into the active socket on the amp instead of the passive! All went smoothly once that was sorted. Not so many people there as the last couple of times we've payed the venue, but the landlord was happy and wants us back in the new year.
 21. Did someone say something about waistcoats and hats together??
 22.
I wanted to get a ahead and everyone knows if you want to get ahead, you get a hat I've got about 7
Seven heads??
 23. I think you might be right, and using bass wood for a bass would have appealed to my warped sense of humour!
 24. All I can say is....on your own head be it.
