1.
Gee man, that second statement is strong. I'm married, but if I made the same statement, I would certainly be alone
I'm married but my wife understands that the band has first priority on my time. The only time I have failed to turn up at a gig was because I was unconscious in the local A&E after an accident (and a follow up when I was in a wheelchair with my arm in a cast). The band understood the situation, visited me, and arranged a dep as I didn't want us (that is, the band) to miss a gig.
2. I guess we're all heading towards 60 ( or away from it) but some of us are closer to it than others!
3. I fell on my feet when I came back from Finland nearly five years ago and started looking for a band here. After a couple of non-starters, I answered an ad on 'Join My Band' and we've been playing together now for 4 1/2 years and I can honestly say the band are like a family to me. Like any family we have some minor disagreements now and then, usually as a result of outside influences, but the four of us are pretty solid. Mind you, I've been playing in bands on and off since my teens and I'm nearly 60 now - my current band is the most friendly, most musically satisfying and longest lasting I've found!
4. I do all the bookings for my band (The Wirebirds), and we also use a shared Google diary. This world well so long as people remember to enter dates they can't do into the diary or tell me about them so I can do that for them. Our guitarist is going home for Christmas this year (he hasn't been back for many years - home is one of the most remote places of habitation on the planet!) and I arranged gigs up the date he was departing, A few days ago he told me the departure date has been brought forward a week, so that's two bookings I need to cancel, but as they are still months away, it's not a big problem. Nothing really causes issues within the band as we all manage to get along well together (except for one bloke, but we kicked him out a few years ago!).
5.
I just click the "View New Content" button. I must admit that I very rarely go to a specific forum. S.P.
Same here.
6.
Gorgeous - I keep GAS'ing the new anniversary edition. This one is worth buying for the sticker alone! GLWTS!
Thanks! There's a tiny bit of the spirit of Phil Lesh behind every Stealie that gets stuck on a bass, you know!
7. I sitting here right now playing my pro 1v T bird, just got it back from the tech this morning, new strings, new tuners, general set up - quite honestly, it's the best bass I own right now, and the others are mostly US Fenders and Gibson! The EB4 was left for a good set up when I collected the 'bird. I'm missing it already
8. This bass has now been sold. Reluctantly selling my gold top Jack Casady signature bass. Bought it in late feb/early march, used for a few gigs and enjoy playing it, but I am out of space and out of money, so need to let something go. I bought it used, the case came with it. There is one slightly dodgy latch on the case, but it works ok. The bass is in good condition, plays well. It covers everything from a a warm, acoustic tone through Precision to an unexpectedly aggressive snarl, just by switching output impedance on the varitone switch. Due the nature of this bass, I am not offering to post it, so collection from West Oxfordshire (where it can also be tried through my amp if required) or a mutually convenient meet somewhere. Feel free to ask for further info, but I am firm on the 'no posting' for this one! Two pictures taken today (30th Sept) showing the bass with the sticker removed, as I have ben asked if would be easy to do. As I hope you can see, there is no sign at all that it had ever been there, I sprayed a little guitar cleaner/polish around it and it lifted off cleanly with no residue left on the guitar. I include one picture with a reflection of the window in the area where the sticker used to be to show that there is no mark or damage to the finish.
9. That's the same model I am waiting for from Gear4music. Much as I want to get my hands on this bass, due to a recent impulse purchase I am quite happy to wait a bit longer!
10.
is that the new epiphone vintage you have ordered.
Yes, that's the one. Sunburst
11. That does look good in red...but much as I love my gold Casady, it doesn't get played often, and I've bought too many basses already this year! But...red...hmmmm.
12. I've still got the vintage T Bird on back order, so I'll be able to compare them eventually (assuming I survive the operation to remove the one or two vital organs required so I can pay for the bloody things!). My experience of the EB4 has been very positive so far, but I've only had it about 10 days and was away for most of that time. But I've played it at one gig and 9 or 10 songs at an open jam and it's been very impressive. I'll try to do a back to back comparison of the EB4 with my Gibbo T bird at Friday's gig, should be interesting.
13. Good to meet you this afternoon (I was approached by Quevlar as I walked down the street carrying a bass gig bag!). Hope you managed to get back, my band was second on, then I was asked to come back on later to play behind various people which was great fun. Didn't get away until gone seven.
14.
How are you finding the EB4?
Easily, I just leave in the corner next to the amp.... Honestly, I loved it for the gig I did the day it arrived, but I've been away most of the time since then so haven't played it. I got home this evening and will be taking it to the local blues jam tomorrow afternoon.
15.
The prices on those are great now Dave.....looks good and quite like the natural one.
I had a hard time deciding which to go for, especially as the natural is cheaper, but happy with the sunburst I settled on. I've had it almost a week now!
16.
From my POV, that's a good thing.... I just blew the cash, that I would have used to pick up either an Embassy or Vintage T-Bird on an Ibby BTB. Will probably be December before I can again contemplate purchasing.
Same here, I bought an EB4 with the money put aside for the vintage Thunderbird. A bit more time to build it up again will spare me overloading the credit card.
17. I've not weighed mine, but compared to my Thunderbird or a Fender Precision, these are really light.
18. Just remembered to remind you - the Fat Lil's blues jam is this Sunday, starts about 4-ish. I should be there, ask anyone for Dave from the Wirebirds and they'll point me out. Long hair, beard, probably a Gibson Thunderbird or EB4 this month.
19.
Hmmm. I took the stock strings off and replaced them with Hi-Beams. Back-to-back, playing with strings I know are SS after playing with the stock strings, I would have guessed the stock strings were nickel plated.....
Interesting, I usually use nickel plated and the strings on my EB4 don't feel or sound like my usual strings. sound better, feel a bit rougher on the fingers.
20.
THIS happens all the time hehe glad I live an 'interesting' life. I remember arguing with the publican of our residency over ten bucks. In the end I told him he was a cheap bastard and to keep the ten bucks as it was obviously more important to him. I could be this magnaminous because he always went home before closing, leaving his head barmaid to close up. Unbeknownst to him, she loved us and hated working for that stinge, so she would ALWAYS open up the bar, including the top shelf for us and our 'roadies' after load out hehe. Ah Michelle, you were the BEST !!
Love it!
21. I'm guessing the original strings are steels, can anyone conform this?
22. Whatever they are, they are damn good strings. Bit rough on the fingers (compared to my usual D'addario round wound nickels) but that sound!!
23.
Hi! Could you let me know that amp can you send me to hungary? Have a nice day! Balint
I'm away for a few days right now and it's not a job I want to ask my wife to do, if I haven't got back to you in a week, please remind me.
24. Just been trying to work out how to space the hangers (when I get them!) by laying out all of my basses (except a Thunderbird which is currently with a local guitar tech). I think I can fit 8 on the wall I have available, which happens to match the number of basses I have! I will have to use two rows, 2 feet apart with the hangers spaced at 20-21" intervals.
