1. Chester's not too far away, we could meet half way, somewhere around Birmingham, if you are interested. I prefer that to trusting a decent bass to a courier.
2.
PM'd
And replied!
3. Just back from a central Swindon gig. Good crowd in, got most of them dancing and singing along, we were on good form tonight, best we've played since last NYE. Used my mini rig again, Super Compact with an Ashdown Rootmaster 800 and my Epiphone T Bird, great sound.
4.
I'd have it but you're a bit of a trek from me I think.
Where are you? I'm in West Oxfordshire, but can travel within reason!
5.
Ohh that's rather nice
It is, but I really have to clear a bit of space in the house.
6.
Waiting in anticipation.....although i like that Embassy too
Yeh, that bugger caught my eye too! I can see a few Fenders coming up for sale round my way soon! Played my Epi T Bird through a rather impressive old fashioned stack at a rehearsal studio today, that bass really does pack good punch!
7. Did a city centre in Oxford last night, went well but fewer people than last time owe played the venue, about 6 weeks ago. Apparently this is normal once the students have gone home. Used my (new to me) Epiphone Thunderbird, Ashdown Rootmaster800/Barefaced Super Compact setup, and it all performed very well. The Epiphone is my cheapest bass and is currently the bass of choice for me. We'll be back there in the middle (and the end) of August. Good to be finally getting a few gigs in my home town!
8.
The new Epiphone Thunderbird is coming to retailers in October 2017 according to my email today. http://www.epiphone....e-PRO-Bass.aspx
Great, I know what my next bass is going to be! Gigged my Epi classic pro again this evening, they're going to have to work hard to improve on that one.
9. I've just ordered a set of 55 - 120 (four string) for a Thunderbird that will be tuned DGCF. According to D'Addario's calculator, that will be same tension as my standard 50 - 105 I use for EADG. I had to order individual strings as there isn't a set of that weight.
10. I still prefer the tobacco burst, same as my Gibson and my Epi. There is no way anyone needs 3 Thunderbirds, but I won't let that stop me!
11.
I suspect landlords like paying out cash because, in some instances, they have a budget from their brewery and can account for that allowance while having no record of how much was actually paid out.
Pretty much exactly what I was told by the landlord of a local Greene King pub. The brewery no insists that all transactions are processed through Invapay as some LLs had been pocketing the cash for non-existent gigs.
12. Green King pubs, at least this in my area, are no longer paying bands in bundles of readies, it is transferred to a nominated bank account after the gig. Which obviously means extra work for the bass player who then has to withdraw the cash and split it amongst the rest of the band.
13.
I've found it!! Do your travels take you anywhere near Gloucester?
Not especially near, but as I am in West Oxfordshire, I am not especially far away either! I am sure I could invent a good reason for a drive out your way.
14. Hoping they won't be available for a while, as I've bought two Thunderbirds in the last month and am trying to avoid the lure of another!
15.
The first white Epi pro I bought had a black plate fitted. I'm not sure if it came off another Epi or was an after market job. It's currently in one of my box of spares, if you're interested let me know and I'll dig it out
Definitely interested, got to be worth a try!
16. Withdrawn from sale Re-advertising my Fender Classic 60s Jazz Bass as I am running out of space here! Bought new about 4 years ago, this was my main gigging bass for a year or two, also used in the studio, but I haven't played it for a year or more now. This is the top end Mexican made Jazz bass, finished in nitro (cellulose lacquer), and is essentially a road worn Jazz without the wear. It has picked up a little natural wear, however. Great sound and feel for a Jazz Bass player, this bass comes complete with Fender tweed hard case. Prefer buyer to come to West Oxfordshire to try the bass before buying, prefer collection or meet up rather than trusting this to the post or courier due to previous bad experience.
17. I'd forgotten about this one! Still got it, still in its box, unused for a year or more, please make me a not too insulting offer and I can clear away another piece of gear that isn't being used here!
18. I've emailed Epiphone to see what they say, my sunburst pro iv would definitely look better with a black plate.
19. Does anyone know whether the scratch plate form the active model fits the classic pro? The black plate looks much better than the white, to my ears.
20. Finally gigged the Super Compact last night, Ashdown Rootmaster 800 & Epiphone Thunderbird pro iv, sounded great, really punchy and easily enough for most of our gigs. I used the Super Twin for an earlier gig yesterday as it was outside and I needed all the volume and coverage I could get, so so both cabs have a role to play.
21. Played two more gigs with my Epi T Bird last night, what an incredibly good instrument it is, my playing is so relaxed and easy with the T Bird comared to my usual Jazz or Precision basses. They sound petty good too!
22. Played two gigs with the Wirebirds today. The first was at Chinnor Bike Dayz, near Princes Risborough, from half five til half six. Decent size stage with PA and soundman, so we just needed backline and drums. I used my Epiphone Thunderbird through ABM 600 and Barefaced Super Twin, which made everything in the marquee pulse! Good set and we were paid before we started, as the organiser knew we had to make a sharp getaway afterwards. The second gig was a private party at a club in Swindon, best part of an hour and half's drive from the first gig. Somehow, we manage to finish the first gig on time, brea down our gear, load the cars, drive to Swindon, unload and set up (our PA this time) and be ready for a nine o'clock start. Just. Used the same bass but gave my Super Compact and Routemaster 800 its first outing. Very effective it was too! Both venues want to rebook us, we had a lot of fun, got paid...what more could we ask?
