1.
http://basschat.co.u...21#entry3314221 I blame you guys (especially Finndave and Blue ;-) ), sold some more of my old car parts today so budget jumped a bit and deal has been struck on a Gibson which should be with me early next week.
So long as we get the appreciation as well as the blame, I'm good with that!
2. I rehearsed with a new band using a backing track to provide keyboard & orchestral parts as we have only bass/drums/guitar/vocal at the moment. I can ask the guitarist what he was using, but it was definitely coming off a laptop. I had the impression he was using a footswitch to start/stop it, and possibly for more. With a good drummer playing to the click, it was surprisingly effective (surprising to me having never played without live musicians before).
3.
Nevertheless, strapping on a T-bird feels a bit like climbing into a sports car- you assume the position then try to tame the beast! Enjoy the new ride, looks very cool.
I like that! I replaced our sports car with a newer one two days before I bought the T-bird, so the connection works for me!
4. Welcome from another local (iso). My band played in Bicester last Friday!
5. My Fenders all have matt/satin necks but my Thunderbird is gloss. I haven't noticed any difference in neck feel between them.
6. Various Nightwish songs, due to a new project I've been invited to join. Had our first rehearsal tonight, so the work paid off.
7.
Loving the T-Bird and that G3
I reckon I'd get myself committed if I bought another Thunderbird this year, so you'll have to buy this one!
8. Thank you, Doug, it was good to meet you. Never the best place to chat though, too much to do getting set up for the gig. Glad you enjoyed it. The bass behaved very well on its first ever gig, too!
9. And at the gig...but the pics help get the gig in the first place
10.
Back in the 70s, The Gibson Thunderbird was the ultimate "kick ass" bass. Enjoy your Thunderbird Dave. I'll be gigging mine a lot more often. Might use it for our show with Frampton. Blue
Cheers, Blue, people will definitely take notice of you with the Thunderbird. We'd all like to think it's our technique, musical ability, and personality that gets us noticed, but I increasingly think it's just down to the impact we make on stage. The look of the bass and the player makes a real difference.
11.
That buying the band a drink thing is common and a nice thing. But wait until a song is over. Blue
Unfortunately the guy laid himself out before he made off the stage and up to the bar!
12. I've met a few, all have been first class people.
13. I've finished string the Precision BEAD but not gigged it yet. Took it along last night but we didn't need it. I will keep it BEAD rather than DGCF as I reckon it will be easier to cope with everything just down a string, rather than thinking too hard about new positions on the neck.
14.
Cool pics, Dave what year is that bird? Blue
2012, according to the date stamp on the back of the head, Blue. Two gigs in now and love the sound and the attention the bass attracts!
15. We had a guy climb onto the stage and attempt to talk to each of us while we were playing. He ended up tripping over his own feet and hitting the wall rather hard, resulting in him being laid out cold next to the PA. We just kept playing. The police attended, we kept playing until they asked us to stop between numbers. The guy was hauled out between two burly coppers and taken away in an ambulance. His reason for being on the stage? He wanted to buy us all a drink and was trying to find out what we wanted!
16. I'll take a closer look at the Epi through neck when I go into oxford PMT today to collect my replacement ABM 600. I don't think I can buy two T Birds in a week, though, I might be locked up if i do!
17. Epiphone or Gibson, it'll make a serious impact, nothing looks as good as this! It's put the pic in twice, but only shows as one in edit mode - sorry, but two Thunderbirds for the price of one can't be bad!
18. Our second gig of the weekend was in Royal Wootton Bassett (you should hear the way people complain if you leave off the 'Royal'!) in a pub on the edge of town. Pushed into a tight corner, the gig didn't look too promising, but by the time we started there were plenty there, and we had a really good gig, probably better than the previous night's. We played much quieter, due to the size, resulting in better sound and a happy band. Second time out for my lovely Thunderbird, again attracted comments and praise from the audience. Not really a bass for the shy and retiring type, this one definitely gets me noticed, even if people have their eyes shut!
19.
For future reference there is free parking (after 6pm) just found the corner, a minutes walk away. Just go past the pub and turn immediately right. They look like they might be private parking spaces as they're in front of some units, but they're pay and display.
The pub staff told us about those spaces, but there as no room. There is another bunch like that further down the same road, which were also full. I ended up up at a large open Pay & Display car park which was nearly empty (free after 7pm). Think we just hit town on a busy night! Definitely a good place to play, though, a proper music pub. Our drummer was most impressed with the pub's choice of music while we were setting up. Definitely our sort of place, we've been promised further gigs, so let's see what happens!
20.
I'll try and drop into the Bell tonight and have a look (and listen) Regards, Doug
Good to meet you last night, thanks for coming along. Cheers, Dave
21. A friend of mine suffered from hep C for many years, he was given a new course of treatment at the end end of last year, costing approx £35,000 and he is now free of the virus. He was given the course on the NHS.
22. We were in Bicester for the first time last night. Decent place to play, pub with a stage. Had to unload and then park the cars 5-19 mins walk away, but of a pain to have to go and get them at the end of the gig, once we're done I just want to get home and under the shower. Debit gig for my new Thunderbird, bought yesterday morning, gigged in the evening. Great bass, rich, round sound. Also first time out with 20Db filters in my ACS pro earplugs, up from the 17Db I've been using for the last 3 or 4 years. Definitely helps my ears, and the drums and guitar didn't cause my ears any problems for the first time in a while. Off to Wootton Bassett tonight (sorry, ROYAL Wootton Bassett!) then nothing for a couple of weeks due to holidays.
23. As promised, here's a shot from tonight's gig (taken by a member of the audience), showing us enjoying a Gibson moment!
24.
Nice score there! I remember gigging mine for the first time, it sounded suitably seismic and band mates looking round mouthing "what the bloody hell are you doing?"
That was pretty much how tonight's gig went!
25.
Nice one Dave, they`re really nice sounding basses, and look uber-cool as well.
Cheers, Lozz, they really do have 'the look', and the sound is something else. I took the T Bird and 'our' Jazz bass as a back up. The Jazz stayed in its case al night! Fabulous rich sound everywhere I stood, it just seemed to fill the venue with bass. The amp was only turned up about 25%!
