The worst thing about mics, in my opinion, is that they allow pubs to say they have live music without booking, or paying for, a band.
I don't understand open mic nights. Getting up with some random musicians playing random stuff would be my worst nightmare
For me, that's the main reason for going along, being thrown into playing unfamiliar stuff with people you don't know, real sink or swim situation. Not to everyone's taste, though, I can appreciate that.

Mainly gig with a 300 watt combo (but without extension speaker, so probably only 200w) and use a 500w head and 2x12 cab for outdoor events. Have used my 180w combo (again, into the internal 8 ohms speaker, so probably 130w or less) but generally find that a bit too quiet and thin for gigs.

That's bloody neat, the one thing I dislike about my Smooth Hound is the standoff of the unit when plugged into a regular jack socket mounted on a scratchplate. I was using a lump of blu tack to stop it shaking about, but have now switched to a short lead and the transmitter on the strap.

I've got one, works perfectly with my various Fenders and the low impedance pick up in my Jack Casady bass. I don't know what a Status bass is ether, unless you just mean an expensive version of a standard bass!

We were in Abingon-on-Thames last night, at a venue new to us, and we had a fine time there. Good, enthusiastic audience, we played for three hours with a 15 minute break. Totally knackered today! My injured foot and hand are both playing up, but I won't have to do it again until next weekend.
Blue, you remind me of me 5 years ago after 20 bottles of cider. You talk sh*t. Tell you what, pack one up, ship it off. ill get it by monday Bub
That's pretty much killed any chance of sympathy here, well done!
What's blues fusion?
I think it's a colour in the bathroom section of the Dulux paint range.
I get stir crazy if I don't gig. Feb and March were slow and I ended up chewing the furniture. April looks much busier. Maybe I need to get a life.
That is a life

I'm 59 and play most weekends, in fact looking forward to the end of April when we have a full gig on Saturday afternoon, followed by another at a bike rally in the evening. Plus gigs Easter Saturday and Sunday, different venues but both in Swindon (25 mikes each way for me). Can't think of anything I'd rather be doing, dread the thought of stopping. Thought I might have to stop after my bike accident 16 months ago, but managed to fight back. Busier than ever now.

I've been with the Wirebirds for 4 years now, all four of us have been in it since the start. The drummer is definitely mad, but so are the rest of us, so he fits in quite well. Apart from not having a car. Or a driving licence....
Good choice, sorry I forgot to mention them!
Mine is less than two feet from me as I type, so I felt honour bound to mention it!

I use an Epiphone Jack Casady in a blues rock band, it's a semi-acoustic and 34" scale.

I used D'Addario nickel rounds in a blues rock band for a few years, on both Jazz and Precisions. I played finger style only. In the last year, I have had to switch to using a pick (damaged fingers in an accident) and found the rounds a bit too toppy, so have changed to flats, still playing the same style of music.

I can see the above video on my MacBook, no problem. Something strange going on somewhere if some can and some can't see it.
Me too Dave.....i'm a massive Hawkfan and as such my own band is called Spirit of the Age
Excellent, let's see if we can meet up there. I'll stand out like a sore thumb, long hair, beard, Hawkwind T shirt, denims....

I'm off to see Hawkwind again in May, at the Roundhouse, first time they've played there in 45 years!

I play blues, with a funky, psychedelic twist...and have used Jazz basses, Precision basses, and currently an Epiphone Jack Casady bass, all of them have sound good and fit in OK. I am not required to play any slap, though. Probably a good thing as I wouldn't have a clue! Another band I play with is mainly jazzy blues, and any of the above basses work well in that context as well.
I have found, over the years, that we always start at a decent enough volume, but as the night goes on, I feel as if I'm listening to a wall of noise. The desire to turn up to be heard is almost unbearable. I have asked the others have they turned up and they are adamant that they haven't. I've since found out that our ears, when faced with prolonged loud noise, will try to protect themselves by blocking out certain frequencies. This makes for a weird sensation of mud in your hearing, which is hard to play through. I have concluded that A, we are too loud to start with and 2 , monitors are a must!
You forgot C (or 3?) Use earplugs!

My Jazz basses are strung with Chromes, 45-100, whereas I use 50-105 on my Precisions, partially because it makes the narrower neck seem a little less tight, and partially because I don't entirely trust the Jazz neck with all that tension on it, more meat in a Precision neck.

I've been playing with the same band for the last 4 years, basically a blues band (mainly because we're stuck with a harmonica player ) but we try to avoid sounding too much like anyone else. We do play Mustang Sally, and it goes down very well, but no better than our version of Elvin Bishop's 'My Dog', which is not a song you'll hear in many pubs! I did a brief stint at the end of last year with a more conventional covers band, and heard 'Sex on Fire' for the first time. I had read about it here, but never heard it, and was amazed at how bloody dull it was. Hard to believe that it is a real crowd pleaser. I left the band before we reached the gigging stage, so never had a chance to find out how audiences reacted to the infamous SoF. The words 'turgid' and 'dross' come to mind, but I'm far too diplomatic to mention them!

My recent addiction to Epiphone Casady basses means I need to make room for another arrival. Sad to see this go, but needs must. So we have here a spotless 2015 Fender Precision standard (MiM), black, maple on maple neck, tort guard, and currently fitted with a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder which really does add a lot of punch to the sound. I am including the original pick up in the sale, it is a straight forward job to change back, though I doubt you'd want to! Also included is a Hiscox case, slightly battered but still doing a perfectly good job of keeping this beauty in pristine condition. I bought this last summer, used it for a few gigs, but have since acquired a US Precision in the same colours, though currently I am only using my Casady bass. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I expect it could be posted, but having had a bad experience with posting instruments in the past, I would rather the buyer came to collect from West Oxfordshire (between Witney and Abingdon). I have priced the bass at what I feel is a realistic level considering its condition and the extras included.
