1.
To misquote a film: "This is my bass, there are many like it but this one is mine"
"And this one, and this one, and those two over there....."
2. Just back from a very pleasant Sunday afternoon/early evening gig in Swindon. My first time out with the Cartoon Heroes, playing music a little different to the psychedelic blues rock I do with the Wirebirds. Thoroughly enjoyed myself, didn't embarrass myself, and received plenty of compliments on my playing. Best of all, home by nine for dinner!
3. A band I pay with occasionally had a gig on a date that I had a long-standing booking with The Wirebirds on. Other band booked a dep, then my Wirebirds gig was cancelled by the venue (private party booked in and no band required) so he paid the dep the full fee and I did the gig.
4. Thanks for that, when the wallet has recovered from buying the bass, I'll look into fitting one.
5. Which Hipshot bridge are you using, could be worth making the change there. As a pick player, my right arm across the front of the bass keeps the dive & tilt under control, but they were a real pain when I was still able to play finger style.
6. Right then, here are some pictures to show the full glossy loveliness of my new bass though the bridge looks like it needs cleaning up. I'll give the whole bass a through checkover when the new strings arrive.
7. Yes, I had to change from fingers to pick after a motorcycle accident which left me with restricted wrist movement and no tendon to raise the middle finger of my right hand. One year since I was able to resume playing, I am starting to get used to the pick.
8.
Mani, the bass player in The Stone Roses has been playing pretty much exclusively Jack Casadys for a few years now. Google him and you can see a fair few standard and non standard designs..
Thanks, some interesting ways of decorating the bass there. I've never heard of him or his band, but he has good taste in basses!
9. Probably depends on the time delay between asking you to do both and then telling you only one is available. If you had both dates booked for a while then you have reason to be peeved, but if they let you know soon after booking you, I'd take the one available and be grateful.
10. Mine came from a chap in Chester. I don't know anything about the stone roses, other than that he told me that was why he'd bought it.
11. The guy I bought it off was a Stone Roses fan, luckily he had left it as a standard gold top
12. Worst neck-diver I ever had was a Guild B301 (back in the 70s). I made the mistake of trying it in the shop sitting down, so it was only the first time I played it with a band that I found out how neck heavy it was.
13. Just back from a 220 mile round trip to collect my eBay purchase of an Epi Jack Casady (plus case). Now I had one of these a couple of years ago and sold it on as I it found uncomfortable to play finger style. Recently, it occurred to me the problem might no longer exist as I have to play with a pick these days. And it's true! The different hand & wrist position makes it a joy to play, and my forearm resting on the bass prevents it tipping forwards. Just ordered a set of flats for it, and will try it with a band next week. And yes, I know...pictures on the way!
14. I'l let this go for £50 incl postage if anyone wants it, no use to me at all as I have sold my synth.
15. Because it's shinier. Shiney stuff is aways more expensive (ask any married man!)
16. Phil Lesh, simply because he is Phil Lesh. Incredible playing.
17. That's why I have both types of bass, a Jazz and a Precision.
18. I've recently started playing with the Cartoon Heroes from Swindon, they've been together 20 years plus. I believe the the other three are original members, apparently their bass player passed away.
19. In my case, I had arranged the courier, but won't be doing it again. I went up to Leicester last Sunday to meet a Basschatter from Leeds who bought a synth from me, and am going to Birmingham next Saturday to meet someone from Chester who I have just bought a bass from. Bit of a hassle but better then stuff getting damaged. No experience with rip offs, no one has ever tried anything like that with me.
20. I have had a bass damaged by a courier despite it being very carefully packed (in case, in strong box, with plenty of bubble wrap. The courier's small print restricted payouts for damage to musical instruments to £100.00 despite me taking out extra insurance for it. These days I arrange to meet people half way between our homes, if that's not possible then I won't buy or sell.
21. I use the red neck version of micro tape, a lump of blue tack, to secure the tx to bass. It works fine, as the unit is very light.
22. I've sold both my synths now, so this Korg sequencer is just sitting in its box waiting to be used. Absolutely as new, used 3-4 times at home only. In original box with instructions. Asking £60.00 including postage.
23. In my experience, PMT will usually match a genuine on line price rather than lose the sale.
24. I've had nothing but good service from PMT Oxford, always encouraging me to try new basses, though that has worked in their favour more than once!
