1. Sometime, gigs like that mean more than any amount of money.
2. I used a Precision strung with flats for my gig tonight, first time I'v used them at a gig. I've had the set of Chromes about 8 years, but only put them on a bass last week! Never like them when I played finger style, but now I have to use a pick, they take out some the natural twanginess and make a good round sound. I may have to buy some and string some of my other basses with them.
3. Roqsolid made me a cover for my Super Twin, but as mine was the first cab off the line, the cover had the cutouts for the handles in the wrong place. Rectified free of charge very quickly by Roqsolid, and the cover has now seen over 3 years service and is in fine shape (as is the cab!).
4. I'll be rehearsing with a 4 piece this afternoon in the drummer's garage. Bass, guitar and keys go through amps but turned well down, vocals are unamplified, and the drummer uses an electronic kit. It's a very pleasant volume, and one of the few times I play without earplugs. On the other hand, I'll be rehearsing with another 4 piece on Thursday evening in the harmonica player's house, different group of people, we rehearse at gig level, with a hard hitting drummer. No idea how we get away with it in a residential area, but we've been playing there every week for four years!
5. I had one of these years ago, bloody good guitars. I think I swapped mine for an Aria bass eventually.
6. If the pitch at the 12th fret is sharper than the harmonic, you need to lengthen the string, so move the bridge further away from the nut. Seems to me (having just read this after a bit of a session in my local) that you're going the wrong way.
7.
Just a quick question - what is the "coolest" way to play your bass? A. On your lap, sitting down. B. On a the longest strap possible, down by your knees. C. On the shortest strap possible, at chest height. D. Stood still and held almost vertically across your body.
Behind your back, Hendrix style.
8. I've had two MiM 60s classic Jazz Basses, still have the nitro finish one I bought new 4 years ago. Definitely better than the standard MiM I had a couple of years back. I was shocked to see on Fender's site that the RRP for these is £1200 now, that's more than I paid for a new US Standard last year! I can't really put my finger on why it is better, but it definitely feels and sounds different to the Mexican standard.
9. I'll go to 350 including the deck saver (which costs around £45) Just remembered, I am including the SQ1 sequencer, cost me about 100 on the deal.
10. Weekend bump. Make me an offer!
11. Still available, barely used since I bought it new last summer.
12. I have both US Standard and Mexican Standard Precision basses and the US has better pick up, bridge, tuners, neck, wood....there are a lot of differences. The Mexican Standard is a good bass, and I get a great deal of pleasure from owning and playing mine, but the US Standard is even better.
13.
For heavier thread, try welders gloves
I've got a pair of them, use them with the logburner. I'll have to try them at the next gig.
14. Holgar Czukay (Can's bassist) went through a phase of wearing gloves, no idea why though.
15. I always take two basses to gigs, one would be a Fender and the other would be a Fender.
16.
They can be a bit Marmite... thing is though, when you looked at the gallery I bet you weren't thinking about colour options.
True, my brain was struggling too much with the shape to think of colours!
17.
I'm playing at a pub in Donington on Sat, needless to say I shall be using it that way in future too
We play Reading on the August Bank Holiday every year. It's the St Helena Association annual sports day, held in a rugby club. But it is Reading, and it is the same weekend.
18.
It's Wishful thinking. Arf, arf. Actually you can specify a truss rod, but it's an extra $100. Well worth it, I would have thought. http://www.wishbass.com/gallery.html
My god, those are hideous! I don't know where they're made, but they must have some good drugs there.
19.
Yes, it does. Try reducing chainsaw wear by cutting up Wishbasses - they don't have truss rods.
Can't see them in my 1972 Fender catalogue, therefore they don't exist. But if they did..how would you set relief without a truss rod? Or is neck relief a myth foisted on us by the amalgamated union of truss rod workers?
20.
Just burn the tort!
Now you tell me! BTW, did you know that it really screws up a chainsaw blade when it hits the truss rod?
21.
Psychedelic Proto Punk Space Rock.....
All Here & Now covers then.
22.
Heh. I will also accept gold anodized, cream/black/cream, black/white/black and mint/black/mint. Tort's favourite BUT only if it's vintage tort or Spitfire tort. Both expensive I know, but modern tort is an abomination which is totally unacceptable. .
In that case, I'll have my three tort-equipped Fenders destroyed immediately. I'll miss them, they're good basses, but obviously they have to go now. Chainsaw and log burner should sort them out.
