1. I tend to sway about like a sapling in a breeze Anything more ambitious and I either fall off the stage or whack the guitarist round the head with my bass.
2. I was that cretin a few weeks ago when I turned up at a gig (first time out with new band) and found I'd left my extension lead at home. I had broken my golden rule, never take anything out of the gig bag between gigs. Luckily the guitarist had a spare. I got my own back 2 gigs later when he turned up without a plectrum, he ended up using one of my heavy duty jobs all night.
3.
I think we would all like to see this film of Blue with his invisible friend.
Well, not all of us, I'm sure!
4. I signed up, been using their strings for years.
5.
I'd be a good candidate for a pro band. I'm not married,no girlfriend,my kids are adults and I don't have a day job. I can get up and leave anytime on short notice. Blue
Same here (although I am married, she is very independent and supportive of what I do).
6. After last Saturday's gig I've added a few spare picks for guitarist to my gig bag.
7. I have a selection of bar towels, a couple of which are always in my gig bag (not the same two, obviously).
8.
If anybody needs me, I'll be in a dark room, crying.
Spare broken light bulb, spare tissues (for the tears).
9.
Jeez, I'm scared to leave the house now. I'm doing the rest of my gigs via Skype.
Make sure you have a back up computer and line in case you loose the connection
10. I thought I remembered you saying this when we met the other week. How does it sound wth that pick up? I gigged the black US Standard yesterday, lovely full warm tone but plenty of punch, then used the Mex P at a local blues jam this afternoon, the standard mex pick up is nothing like as good as the US one. It sounded too trebly, no real punch there.
11.
So what's the score if, for whatever reason, your bass has no output just before staring your set..? Just a curious question; I play drums, but don't bring a spare kit along. If my bass pedal fails, there's not bass drum. I'd do my best on the floor tom, probably.
The drummers I work with always have a spare bass drum pedal in their kit bag. I can think of at least occasions they have needed them this year.
12.
Ha! The world ain't ready for two of me... I have a "gig box" full of spares of everything, including a DI, just in case the amp goes phut... I've used everything in it - apart from the DI.
Yep, I have a DI box in my bag as well, and have had to use it once this year. Without the box, that gig would have been over after the first song!
13. Down in deepest Wiltshire (last night though not been to bed yet) for another gig with Bob Bowles. As our drummer quit last week, we had a dep tonight, a most excellent young chap from Wroughton, who was a pleasure to play with. Unfortunately not going to be a regular as he is off on tour with his band soon. All went well and was well received. Nothing now for a couple of weeks.
14. My first Precision bass (30 summat years ago) would randomly cut out at gigs (never at rehearsals) and back then I couldn't afford a spare, so I always take two to gigs now. My am stopped working mid gig (after the first number, really) only a few months ago. I aways carry a Sansamp, but since then have it plugged up and ready in case it happens again. I am planning to have myself cloned in case I stop working mid gig too.
15. I'm just back from tonight's gig, and as usual, I had a guitar stand with 2 basses, both black n maple Precisions . Obviously, there was only one in the stand when I was playing. I take a spare as years ago I had a Precision which would suddenly stop sending any signal to the amp mid song, and have never forgotten that feeling. I just feel more comfortable having a spare there. I used the same bass throughout the gig, but will continue to take two because the law of sod dictates that if I don't, the one I take will fail.
16. Well, Fender customer service is pretty damn good! I got a reply from them in a few hours, on a Saturday (and a holiday weekend to boot, as they are in the US of A). Here is what it said:
we unfortunately do not sell that exact same pickup that comes in the American Standard Precision Bass. However, the Pure Vintage '63 pickups will be very, very similar as they are the same magnet type and wire used on the Am Std P Bass. In fact, the pickup in the Am Std is listed as a '62 pickup, so I'd imagine the '63's design isn't too far off. I hope this helps!
17. I reckon you need a spare bass and a riot shield. Standard equipment for the gigging bass man.
18.
They are definitely not the same, but I don't know what the difference is.
That's good to know, I won't buy one on spec if they're not the same. Let's see what Fender have to say.
19. I'm a bit concerned that the '62' P bass pick up is not the same as the 'Custom Shop '60s' as fitted to my US Standards. I've just written to Fender to see what they say.
20.
I'm struggling to work that out. They don't seem to market a 60's, but having owned a fair few basses with the the 62 CS P pickup in I can vouch for it being very nice. If it's the only one you can order, which I suspect it is, then I'd take the risk myself.
That's what I was thinking, there isn't a pick up in their line up that has the same description as the one listed in the US Standard blurb. Maybe I should try emailing Fender and see what they say.
21. Cheers, is this the one fitted to current US Standards? https://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-custom-shop-62-precision-bass-pickup/132354 At 100 quid a pop, I don't want to order the wrong one!
22. I have two US Standard Precisions, both fairly recent so they have the custom shop pick ups in them. I also have a recent Mex standard, and would like to get the same sound out of that s the US ones. I am not sure exactly which pick up the US Standards use, can anyone enlighten me, please? I assume they are available from Fender without a bass attached, but if not, would a quarter pounder or similar give me the depth and clarity I get from the US pick ups?
23.
I've heard that but does it not leave it unfinished and vulnerable?
No, you don't need to go through the finish, just take the shine off it.
24. Put an amp in an enclosure the same width and depth and the Barefaced cab of your choice and nail it onto the cab.
25. The blues jam is on for this Sunday, Drivin' Sideways hosting, and a three piece (no harp) Wirebirds playing a set. So, see you there!
