1. From where I am sitting, it seems that most Basschatters are playing for the same band, named 'missing plug-in'.
 2.
Erm is this not a moan?
Nah, not even a moan, certainly not annoyed.
 3.
Getting in touch with your inner vocalist?
I thought it might be more like a body building course, but that seemed unlikely as well!
 4. Showing my complete ignorance of modern life, but what on earth is a 'personal development course'?
 5.
I love how these threads go, same as barefaced ones, we get a page of people annoyed at the naysayers before any naysayers join in
Can you show me where there there is a post of someone annoyed in this thread, cos I sure can't see any.
 6.
Having moved back to Essex, I rather miss the Fat Lils jam
Coming up this Sunday, how about a nostalgic trip back over here?
 7. I rehearsed this one with a band a few times recently, then left before we gigged as something potentially more interesting came along. It struck me as a good enough bass line for the song, any more playing would ruin the atmosphere.
 8.
FinnDave beat me to it!
Quick Draw McDave, fastest keyboard west of of the Pecos (whatever they are!)
 9.
is the filter substitution something you could do yourself? Just wondering whether it could be practical to have two sets of attenuation filters... although I guess one level works unless you play with different bands with wildly different sound levels...
Yes, the filters can be taken out and put back quite easily.
 10. Been there (with a former 'name' singer) and eventually had to tell them to leave. Surprisingly, the band got just as many bookings, and the renewed pleasure we got from the music was picked up by audiences. On several occasions we were told we are 'more fun' without the singer.
 11.
I imagine it would have been posted in the bass section if there were any
I thought everything was a bass section on bass chat. I simply look at new posts, not browse each sub section
 12. Looks like it's only for the guitar strings, can't see any offers on bass strings
 13. Just sold a VM Precision to Mark, who came to my house exactly at the time we had arranged a week earlier. Thoroughly decent chap, we had a good chat about all things bass and bands, and he left me with one bass less to store. Enjoy your new bass, Mark!
 14. Completed a bass swap with Lozz last week, he took my lovely but unwanted Jazz in exchange for a Precision of the same colour. I played the bass at a rehearsal less than two hours later and gigged it at the weekend. Lovely bass, top bloke, bloody good trade.
 15.
Sort of off topic. Experience folks and Pros never hire the best musicians. They hire the best people. There's a huge obvious difference between the two. BTW, a lot of folks and bands don't get this. Blue
Beyond a certain level of ability, being reliable and easy to get along with are the most important things to look for in a potential bandmate, I reckon. People who really think they are the best very rarely show either of the above traits, in my experience.
 16. I had one of those a few years ago, bloody good bass for the price.
 17.
Definitely strings... Even more definitely.... whisky
Have you been reading my wish list? That's exactly what my wife usually buys me!
 18.
If it was me, I'd do your suggestion, try and set up oriented across the room and just "play to the room" and effectively ignore the rest of the pub - not even try to be heard out there? If the audience want to hear and see the band then they'll come to you.
Yep, that's what we do in that sort of situation. Next Wirebirds gig we are playing in the corridor leading to the toilets with a small in front of us in an otherwise large pub. We know it'll sound terrible if we turn up too far, so just play for those people near us and let the sound drift out to the rest of the place. Far from ideal, but not many pub gigs are, in my experience.
 19. I lift the new strings away from the fretboard a couple of inches after restringing and tuning to pitch, then re-tune and that's it. I did that Saturday with my new-to-me Precision and it stayed in tune for th whole of that evening's gig.
 20. Given the number of times I've managed to step off the edge of a stage while playing, I'd be keeping very still if I was up there!
 21.
I think you had false expectations of what being in a band really entails. Being in a band is about lugging big heavy black boxes into and out of your car and into and out of pubs and clubs.
That's not entirely true. One guitarist I play with has a big heavy red box to lug in and out of cars, pubs, and cubs.
 22. Played my second gig with Bob Bowles last night, this time on his home turf in Swindon. Used my new (to me) US Precision, which sounded great. First set was a little bit wobbly for some reason, but we pulled it together for the second which was a blinder. Calne next week!
