Which part of your setup bass, amp, cab etc do you prioritize

The bass, without a doubt. -
Good looking bass, bringing it to Witney on Sunday?

Another victim of my urge to clear out, I bought this lovely 2 VCO patchable all-analogue synth new back in the summer this year. Never gigged or taken out of the house, used very few times. I am including the SQ-1 sequencer which is a perfect match for this synth. It also comes with a 'Decksaver' cover which protects the synth when not in use, the full compliment of patch cords and the full set of instruction manuals. NOW ASKING £400 for as-new synth in original box with manuals and decksaver AND the SQ-1 sequencer, also as new. Neither has been used outside the house, and both used for short time only. Come and try it in West Oxfordshire, or can post at buyer's cost.

4-piece band + backing tracks for guitarist. Hmmmm...
FinnDave replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
I agree, Blue, there seem to be fewer people able to simply play, they have to have something recorded in their brains and just press the internal play button. It's only in the last few years that I've had to really learn songs, before that it was just a question of what key, what sort of feel, and go for it. I still much prefer to work that way, playing other people's basslines feels a bit wrong at time, like wearing their dirty socks. -
Very impressive, definitely worth getting that in front of the right people.

Continuing my quest to find the floor in our spare room, I am reluctantly selling this barely used analogue synthesiser, bought new by me about 4 months ago. It comes complete with power supply, owner's manual and Novation carry bag. This synth has a full sized keyboard, and a host of pre-sets, all of which are user modifiable, as well as empty memory slots to store your own sounds. I played the mostly through a small practice amp, but did once hook it up to my ABM 500/Barefaced rig (when the neighbours were out!) and the bass sound was incredible. Sadly, I am not and never will be a keyboard player, my hand has recovered sufficiently from my bike accident to allow me to play bass, but is never going to to be mobile enough for keys. Ready to collect or post, in original box, plus outer protective box. Not really interested in swaps, I am trying to cut back on all my gear at the moment. I'd have thought that using backing tracks would make on the fly changes to songs a bit tricky. I wouldn't enjoy a band that stuck rigidly to a rehearsed set list with no room to improvise. -
I have the ACS pro 17s and couldn't imagine gigging or rehearsing without them. Definitely worth using the lubricant they come with regularly, they seal much better with it.
The problem is I think that the USA models while being good basses are not that far apart from even the cheaper Squire models never mind the mim models.
I have three Precisions, one Squier, one MiM and one US Standard. All are fairly recent and there is a clear step up in sound, feel and general quality from cheapest to most expensive.

I think it depends on whether you mostly play alone or in a band. I have both types of basses ( ) and the Jazz sounds better if I'm just flexing the fingers at home, but in a band context, if I take the Jazz I always just get as close to a P sound as I can, and then miss the edge that the P gives me. I currently have 4 Ps and 2 Js, but and looking to cut back to 2 Ps and 1 Jazz.
I have opened numerous sets with some Michael Moorcock or Robert Calvert space poetry
Hah, brilliant! I'd definitely go and see a band that does that! Any chance of you playing west of London?

Feedback problems are usually resolved by turning down the monitors. Not sure how that would help in your situation though.

Weekend bump, also listing now changed to collection only, this bass has no hardcase and I don't have a spare one I can use to send it by courier. I am prepared to meet a buyer within about 50 miles of Witney, but prefer buyer to collect. You can play it through a decent amp and cab before buying it then, too! -

Thanks for the offer, but I really need to cut on the overall number of basses. I recently sold my fretless neck as it wasn't seeing much use. Lovely looking bass, though, wouldn't have thought it would hang around unsold for long. What's the bike you're restoring? Been a biking man for 40 years until ten months ago yesterday, when a car took me out on a roundabout. Hoping to get back in the saddle next year. Cheers, Dave -
Music shops -any wonder they're going under?
The one in Manchester under the arches was A1 by the way.
I bought a few things from A1. I think that's where I bought my Selmer Treble & Bass 50 in the 70s. It's definitely where I bought a Guild B301 in about 78 or 79. Happy daze! -

Do you let other people play your bass(es) ?
FinnDave replied to josie's topic in General Discussion
Amps are different, we've been host band at several open mics and the understanding is always that we supply the drums and back line. No problem with that, but the bass is more personal, I really don't want someone else sticky fingers on my strings.
