1.
I'd hire a student or pro, most folks have no clue on how to take even marginal footage of a band in a live setting. Blue
Too right, asking 'someone' without a clue to do it will result in disappointment and unusable footage.
2. I've decided my perfect number of basses is four, two of each type (Jazz & Precision). I currently have five and have just bought another. My plan is not going too well.
3. Interesting article, saved for future reference (despite this howler in the first page "makes this valve very unique ". )
4. Our guitarist often tries to persuade me that I must change the capacitors in my basses 'to let the tone out'. I always play with tone and volume control on the bass fully open, so surely I am by-passing the cap anyway? He also believes that guitars and basses sound 'better' with the on board volume turned down to about half way, so I take these ides with a pinch of salt. Don't get me wrong, great guy, just got one or two odd ideas!
5.
I just changed the covers on mine, cheap fix
Now you've just save me most of the cost of the pick-up I probably don't need. Paljon Kiitoksia!
6. Damn, you've just cost me a new pick up! Realised when I had a post afternoon gig pint in my local that the (young) landlady is a blonde who wears black and reminds me so much of a bass in those colours!
7. I like the look of Thunderbirds, but whenever I actually try one, it puts me off for another year or two. I'm a Fender man, through and through, like Blackpool written in a stick of rock.
8.
I saw that bass on fb too. I was very close to buying it! Dibs if you don't keep it!
I'll try to remember that! I just missed another a few weeks ago, so this time acted fast. I decided to sleep on the idea last time and it had sold by the next morning.
9. At least I bought this bass sober! I once bought a Precision while...not sober... and had to organise getting it from England to Finland. It was a good bass, though, and I regret selling it when I was moving back here a few years ago. Not as bad as a bloke I know who bought a Rolls Royce on eBay while drunk! He went through with it, too!
10.
Is the blanket included?
I'll let you know once I get it. I hope it is, it's getting a bit chilly in the evenings and I've spent all the heating money on basses now!
11.
Well done! Er... do you have any pics of your CIJ 60s P..? You know... just out of interest... *Whistles innocently and shuffles about with hands in pockets*
Well, since you mention it... 12. Yeah, yeah, here it is as advertised photo.php
13. I'd never reach the heights of being rich, but I'd certainly be less poor!
14. I was casually browsing Facebook this afternoon over a cuppa and saw a black/black/maple P bass for sale at a reasonable price. I've been thinking about a mate for my black/black/maple Jazz, and now it seems I have one on the way. I suspect my CiJ 60s Precision will need to be moved on to provide space and fill the hole in my bank balance, but going to be worth it see the pair of black n maple basses on my bass stand! I know, worthless without pics, etc, but at least allow it to arrive!
15. Hour and a half each way is about tops for me. Done a couple recently that far away.
16. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you have no idea how good these sound if you've never tried one.
17.
I like where your heads at. Blue
Cheers, Blue, shame you're over the pond, I'm sure we'd enjoy a beer together.
18. This thread is taking a distinctly 'not to be read while eating breakfast' turn (any tips for getting food out of a lap book pro keyboard?)
19.
Mm yes, they probably WILL forever.
Tired after rehearsal!
20. I find the 2mm gives me plenty of control, I don't want the pick twisting and flexing when I play. I was using home made picks thicker than that before I discovered them. I've tapered the edges of a couple after a few gigs, but they look like they'll forever.
21. I get (and use) alternating up and down strokes, but can't get used to a flexible pick, currently using a 2mm Dunlop delrin, which is pretty rigid. Tend to rest the edge of my hand on the bridge, partially muting, but can't get my fingers anywhere near the body (the injuries again).
22.
An annual clean ? You utter slob, and the mark of a good bassman
I've been known to miss a year now and then...though the arrival of the Polish/Romanian car wash on the Minster Lovell road has been a boon to people like me. £8 for a good wash. They do the car, as well
Probably see you at FL later this month then dave
Hope so!
23.
Well i know many pals who clean their cars when they get covered in road muck, but then they dont eat off their cars, so you could ask them, why bother ? Hey Dave - didnt see you at Fat Lils recently ??
I usually give my cars an annual clean Missed a couple of FL Sundays (despite The Wirebirds supposedly being 'co-hosts' with Drivin' Sideways) because of gigging commitments. Should be there end of this month.
24. I don't suppose 'not giving a damn' would be an option for you guys? One of my Ashdown combos has a carpet covering and is covered in cat hair (we don't have a cat) and various other stuff, but as I don't eat off it, I don't care.
25.
My p bass pickup went open circuit at a gig. That means no sound.
That happened to me, my first genuine Fender back in the early 80s. That's why I always take a spare to gigs. Still love P basses, though!
