  1. You're welcome to drop in any time. My wife has relations living in Wallasey, we go up there once or twice a year.
  2. Thank you, it is a very good looking bass and sounds great as well. I will be sad to see it go, but it isn't getting played so is just talking up space in the house.
  3. SOLD Fender Player Mustang Bass, bought new at the end of May 2023 and has been used for two gigs since then. It has not been touched since last July. I bought it in the hope that the shorter scale would make it possible for me to continue to play despite the onset of osteoarthritis in my fretting hand. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Condition is perfect/as-new with the original strings and no sign of wear or tear on the body, neck, or frets. The scratch plate still has the plastic protective covering on it. It is a versatile bass with Precision and Jazz bass pickups. I bought a gig bag from Thomann which is a good fit for the Mustang and will include that with the bass. I would prefer the buyer to collect or to meet them at a mutually agreed location. An opportunity to buy an as-new bass for only £450.00
  4. My Vintera Jazz bass weighs 4.5 kg ready to play (incl strings)
  5. Sorry, didn't see this when it was posted, I'll weigh it today.
  6. That's generally acknowledged to be true, but it can't be that good or they wouldn't have employed me as a teacher there! I spent a short time (maybe a month or so) in a local (Oxfordshire) Nightwish tribute band. I was asked to join, and did so as I knew that Nightwish was a Finnish band, and the operatic style vocalist lived in the same small town (Kuusankoski) as I did, though not at the same time. I left the band when I realised that I couldn't stand the music!
  7. Most definitely! When I started using forums I was still living over there, and there a lot of Daves on line, often differentiated by their country or state, so I chose FinnDave and have stuck with it even though I returned to the UK over 14 years ago.
  8. I was married to a Finn, and lived and worked there for 16 years. Heavy Metal was definitely popular, but so was traditional folk music, blues, etc. But it's safe to say that the most popular form of music in Finland has to be Finnish polka.
  9. Yes, I've been taking them since the arthritis started. Impossible to tell if it has made any difference as I don't have a clone to act as a control. At best, I think it might have slowed down the problem, but certainly hasn't reversed its progress.
  10. I've sent you a PM, let me know here if you are not able to see it. Cheers, Dave
  11. Thanks for the thoughts - it isn't easy giving up, but I am trying to focus on the things I'll no longer have to do - like loading up the car with my bass gear & PA, driving for miles, dragging the gear out of the car and setting it up, taking it down, packing back in car, driving home, unpacking it all and then finally sitting down feeling knackered! The couple of hours in the middle when we are playing makes it worthwhile, but battling against the pain takes the fun away. I've always played the same style, I can't imagine playing a uke bass in a blues rock band! Lower tension and/or lower action won't work with my playing style and I've been playing this way for over 50 years, too late to change now!
  12. Thanks, Lozz, the CV Mustang is, inexplicably, still for sale! The only time I have played it was when I tried it out in the shop.
  13. Thanks for the ideas, the synths were initially bought as after my bike accident 8 years ago, I was worried I wouldn't be able to play bass again, as I lost of the use of a couple the first two fingers on my right hand, but managed to get around that by using a pick. I did have a synth set up as a bass synth and used that for a few songs when gigging to give my hand a rest, but I couldn't 'feel' anything with the keyboard (I had never previously played a keyboard). All the synth gear has been sold now, it was fun to fiddle with but we live in a small house and space is at a premium. I have tried/am still trying pain relief, but nothing has had any effect so far. I started playing bass when I was 14 or 15, and I am now 66, so I've played with many different types of bands and made some good friends along the way. I'd rather stop before I am forced to, I wouldn't want my last gig memories to be bad ones. Cheers, Dave
  14. Thanks, Lozz, I thought I could carry on playing with the shorter scale, but it just lets get a bit further into the first number before the pain starts.
  15. My friend's funeral went very well, first music was Led Zeppelin, followed by two Pink Floyd songs. I felt him mocking me and saying 'you had to listen to it in the end, didn't you!'. I miss the old bugger.
  16. I bought my Elf 2 or 3 years ago as a back-up. I have used it for one gig just to make sure it was up to the job, which it most certainly was. Still have the carrying case and the original box. I am sadly and slowly getting rid of my bass gear as arthritis is making playing painful. PM me if interested in buying it. I know I should advertise it properly, and am paid up to do so, just feeling lazy! My Elf is now sold and will be winging it's way to a fellow basschater in the morning.
  17. Back in the days when I was playing with the Grateful Dudes, the brother of an Australian neighbour was here and insisted that there was a band in Oz called the Grateful Dads.
  18. I could make enquiries about the cost and the forms that customs would need. I assume you are in Australia from your location.
  19. I'd probably go for the 45 minute version of the Grateful Dead's "Playing in the Band". that'll be something they won't forget in a hurry! Probably put them off ever going to another funeral, as well. Having said that, I will going to the funeral of a good friend in a couple of weeks. He was a Pink Floyd fan, and I can't stand them post Syd, so it could be a difficult hour listening to Dark Side of the Moon!
  20. I've been using a LBT as my main amp for several years, with a Barefaced Super Compact. Sounds good, easily loud enough for pub gigs, anything bigger and I would have been D.I.'d and/or mic'd up through the PA. May well be for sale in the new year as osteoarthritis and other problems have prevented me playing more than 2 gigs this year.
