1.
Its fine there, they don't really have any form of language.
Excellent, my only language skills are drunk English and mangled Finnish. I reckon I'd fit right in
2.
I don't know... I spent a a few days there once and it was like getting in a time machine and going back to the 70s.
I'm still firmly wedged in the 70s, maybe I should move as far south as I can without having to learn French.
3. Three gig this weekend and the poor old JC isn't going to any of them....it needs a good home!
4. Why no funky psychedelic blues rock? Can it be such a narrow-minded field that we are the only practicioners?
5. It would be remiss of me not to suggest my Epiphone JC basschat.co.uk/topic/259580-epiphone-jack-casady-with-hard-case-price-reducCed/page__fromsearch__1
6. Pip Pyle, of course, was in the early incarnations of Gong. So many links with these Canterbury scene bands.
7. Yeah, the Bell doesn't look too promising at first sight, but it turned out to be a great gig, the whole place was dancing, people were queuing up to tell us how much they enjoyed it. We were in the bay window as well, I was squeezed sideways on next to the drums. Hopefully one or two of next weekend's gigs will be as much fun as that was, and also a bit less tiring!
8.
Which pub? We play Wantage reasonably often and there's some good places.
The Bell.
9. Just back from our first time at a pub in Wantage. Got the gig as a result of a cancellation. Only found out when we got there that we were expected to play for three hours. Band was in top form, guitarist in particular was on fire. Place was packed, we went down well and they want us back. We'll need to pace ourselves better for the the 3 hours next time though.
10. We have been using it since February this year, it does bring a few more punters to some gigs (I have spoken to people at our gigs who have told me they saw the gig on Lemonrock) and we have had one or two bookings through it. Whether that is worth the charges is debatable (and I guess that's what we're debating!).
11. Just got this bass back from the studio I left it in June (I know the owner, he was interested in buyiing it) so it really needs to go now as it takes up room I don't have. Make me a sensible offer and I might just accept.
12. Damn, needed a bass to play at rehearsal this evening and my other precision is half way through a pick up change, so took this one with me. Reminded me how good it is and what a fool I'd be to sell it, so am withdrawing it.
13. To me, solid means always there, holding it all together. And I have always maintained that in an ideal world, no should notice the bass unless it stops.
14. Many thanks to everyone for their suggestions, all of which have been saved for future reference (drummers can be so unreliable!) but we have now found someone able to do the gig that at least one of us has played with previously, which adds to peace of mind. Cheers all!
15.
So you wanna be a rock'n'roll star? Oi, where's me tigers head? Got a spare drummer? (Finn Dave of this parish wins IMHO).
You haven't seen one lying about anywhere, though, have you?
16.
I know a few that will travel if the money is there. They wont rehearse but they are sorted.... What is the money?
Only 55 a head, and I think Jenny will want to hear them with the band before the gig.
17.
PM me your phone number and I'll pass it to an excellent drummer I know here in Swindon.
On its way.
18.
Pinged a link to our guy, he's in Bicester and his main band don't seem to have a gig then
Thanks for that, location perfect!
19.
There are a few useful Facebook pages for dep musicians wanted, maybe try posting on them ?
Cheers, posted there before here, getting reasonable response but most already have gigs on the bank holiday saturday.
20. I know we like to make fun at drummers here, but as bass players, they are our brothers in rhythm, and we can't do without them. Unfortunately, our drummer can't make one of our bank holiday gigs, we had a dep lined up but he has injured his leg and will be out of action, another who has played with us before is flying back home to the Falkland Islands a few days before the gig, yet another is already booked.... So, if anyone knows a capable drummer, there is a paid gig going in North Oxfordshire on the 29th August. Blues rock based, all straighforward material, set list, recording of set, oppportunity to rehearse with the band a few days before the gig. Plus. of course, appearing with our name singer, Jenny Haan. Further details on request. Our drummer is the only member of the band we have had to find deps for in the past, so it is quite likely that if we find a drummer who fits in, they may well be called on again (our man is planning several weeks away over Christmas/New Year). Please ask around the drummers you know. Thank you!
21.
Don't get me wrong, I think chemical assistance has its place in the perception of music and in its generation, by which I mean ideas. Just not when rehearsing or gigging or otherwise attempting to be professional.
Absolutely, nothing to disagree with there.
