I'm waiting for a Seymour Duncan SPB-1 for my CiJ Precision, I'll let you know what I think when I get it next week.

I use an ABM EB 180 112 combo for small gigs (unless there is a PA I can DI into). Cost me £90 2 or 3 years ago and is dead reliable, sounds pretty good too. I'll be using it tonight when my band is acting as house band at a local open mic night.
Sorry about that Dave... In future I'll drop you a PM before I sell anything...
Might be better if I PM you before buying anything!

Agreed, Strings Direct are very quick and have plenty to choose from. I just bought a case from them (bad timing, Mr. Discreet!) and that was delivered within a couple of days as well.

I bought this from the organizer of a biker rally we played last month, after a set-up and a change of strings it is my current main bass. CiJ Fender in the Hiscox case I bought for it last week.

Do you and your partner have similar musical tastes?
FinnDave replied to Roland Rock's topic in General Discussion
Never once has either of us had any comment on the other's music except 'turn that crap off'. Shared car journeys are 'enjoyed' in silence. -
We played a wedding gig that was also a pub gig, the manager and chef who run a pub near me tied the knot yesterday and asked us to provide the evening entertainment in a marquee in the pub garden. Went well, lots of people dancing and having a good time (not that the free beer tent had anything to do with that!).

I'd sooner play in the dives than the posh places, the people are more real, and tend to appreciate the music more.

We do a version of Elvin Bishop's 'My Dog' which has been a real favourite at our gigs since we started https://soundcloud.com/finndave-1/my-dog -
The idea of playing through an amp at 9pm seems absurd to me...
The idea of laying through an amplifier at home seems totally unecessary and self-indulgent to me. The only reason to play alone at home is to learn new parts or improve your playing in general. For that the 'tone' argument is redundant. No need to make others unwilling share your mistakes.
Do you know of any rehearsal spaces in the area? It might be an idea to suggest a time and place and see who'd be prepared to travel?
Remind me after the weekend, away at a bike rally until Sunday.

Get used to headphones, it's no big deal and you will barely be heard in the same room. If I feel the need to play at home (which is rare) it is always through my vox amplug and headphones. Plugging in an amp is just too much hassle.

This also takes my breath away, especially as the first time I heard it was being played live, and I was in a somewhat altered state of mind. Some wonderful bass playing in here too: https://www.youtube....h?v=zWak6bfPS_U My second wife couldn't bear to be in the house when I listened to it, she said it was the music of the madhouse, it really disturbed her to hear it.

Reading this thread made me seek this out again. Still makes my heart race and the hairs on the back of the neck stand up, especially the section starting 08.50 and the two guitar solos (Steve Hillage) at 12.10 and 13.08. Loud, through headphones, for best results

Unfortunately in this case our hopes are not exactly compatable! Just listening through some recent gig recordings for a good version of 'Rabbit', last gig had a couple stood by the recorder for that one song! If you enjoyed hearing Jen sing Rabbit then you might also like our 'Move Over' https://thewirebirdswithjennyhaan.bandcamp.com/track/move-over We usually hold this one back for the final encore as Jen can barely talk or stand after it, she puts everything into it.
