1. You'll have to take your fingers out of your ears eventually...
2. It's a long time til October...why wait, you know it makes sense
3. We've been using a couple of 50 or 60 watt peaveys as monitors for a couple of years now, and they are definitely not enough. We recently added a 300w Behringer and it makes a huge difference to our on stage sound.
4.
Sounds like a good weekend of gigs. Well done on raising the £130 and congrats on triumphing over the Prostate Cancer, there are a few of us veteran prostate problem fighters on here
Thank you, Gary, it was a great weekend, and the grande finale with the complete surprise of a public announcement of my recent news was a bit of a shock, but having it used for a good cause was a good twist. I am sure that there must be quite a few people on here who are dealing with or have dealt with prostate cancer, I opted for surgery and it appears to have completely cleared it. Now I have to deal with a night without a gig!
5. Third gig of our three gig bank holiday weekend, this time at my local pub, so I was able to walk there and back (200 yards each way) with my rucksack and a couple of Jazz basses. No amp as I DI through the PA these days. Each of the three gigs has been better than the last, this one certainly topped them all. We played for a total of three hours, including several encores and 2 or 3 songs we had never played before. Finally, they organised a collection for the charity of my choice in celebration of my recent triumph over prostate cancer, £130 raised. I did have to play an impromptu bass solo as a condition of the pub adding £50 to the collection, but seemed to get away with it.
6.
This is the way to deal with assholes
Good ole Keith, he really is THE man
7. That is almost enough reason to try to get over to Herts, I'll look into that.
8.
A band I played in a good few years ago now were kind of adopted by the local Hells Angels chapter - there would be 20-30 scary looking "gentlemen" sporting leathers beards and tatoos at every gig, needless to say we never got any agro from anyone .
I know one or two of the Swindon area HA, decent enough blokes, but certainly don't take any nonsense.
9. I've played one of those in Vintage and Modern, Thame. Felt and sounded like a bottom of the range Squier, but at Fender MiM prices and up. Disappointed, as I liked the look of them too.
10. It depends on how you look and behave. We play in some rough pubs but don't get any trouble from punters. Maybe we just don't look like we're going to tolerate any sh*t from anyone. 11. D'Addario EXLs work fine for me, 45-105 on the Jazz basses and 50-105 on the Precision. I use a reasonable amount of twang, but also need a smooth bass sound, these strings seem to give me both. Change when necessary, usually 2-3 times a year.
12. Second gig of our weekend three, in a venue new to us, fortunately an enthusiastic audience made it a pleasure. All packed up and back home ready for tomorrow night, at my local pub, so a friendly audience guaranteed.
13. Regular weekend bump, and reminder to self to get some decent pictures taken of this excellent but superfluous bass!
14. One down, two to go...last night at The Swan, Radcot was a real blast, long time since we have played together without Jenny. No set list, guitarist called the songs and we just played. Two new songs debuted. Level of musicianship and sheer enjoyment the highest it has ever been, a gig to remember. Now looking forward to doing it again tonight, this time with Ms Haan.
15. We're gigging each of the next three nights, so have decided to package them as a 'mini tour' of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. Dates and locations: Fri 22/05 - "The Swan" Radcot OX18 2SX (No Jenny Haan for this one) Sat 23/05 - "The Tavern" Kemble GL7 6AX (With Jenny) Sun 24/05 - "The Bell" Standlake OX29 7RH (With Jenny) I suspect we'll be resting Monday!
16.
Me neither. But make mine a Coke Zero. Can I link directly to the Basschat's Old man's thread?
Spot on.
17. I have no idea who or what either of the choices are. Can I have a pint instead?
18. Lovely bass and brand new fitted hard case, just sitting unloved in its case, waiting for a new home.
19. An inspiring and hard-working musician, a connection to the history of blues and popular music in general, and a truly gifted guitarist, singer and entertainer. May he rest in peace and long be remembered.
20.
Happy to be corrected
Sorry to come across as a picky old pedant, I just sort of lost it there and reverted to English lecturer mode addressing a group of Finnish translation studies students. I've had a lie down and feel better now
21. It's moved beyond simile by dropping its reference to the original to the point that it makes no logical sense, but has a non-logical meaning that is widely accepted. This sort of thing is a right bugger to teach foreign students! Anyway, I prefer my basses to fight back a little, I can't get any feeling into a butter-smooth low action
22. These sayings aren't supposed to make sense, they are accepted idioms that we all understand (or most of us do) and help to bind us into cohesive social groups. It is why older people feel alienated by the younger generation as they will also define themselves by adapting and adopting idioms to their own use.
23. Ultimate GS 1000 ordered and on its way. Full refund including postage from Amazon for the stage legends stand, can't complain, and at least i had a chance to try it out without trekking into Oxford to see if they have anything suitable.
