1. Ordered Stage Legend stand from Amazon on Sunday, it arrived today, tried it, repackaged and return label printed. The old asymmetric bottom problem, plus it simply seemed very unstable even with a P bass on it. And yes, I did extend the backrest and rear legs, nicely made piece of kit but too small for bass, in my opinion. Free return and full refund. Back to square one!
2. Amp & cab, combo amp, two bass cases all in the lounge. Mrs FD is very easy going about it all and objected when I moved the combo the garage.
3. Full on and control the dynamics with the fingers, just as you would with an acoustic instrument. Same goes for the tone control, works for me has done for years, whatever bass I am playing.
4. Thanks for the replies, I hadn't considered the effect of my asymmetric bottom... I have ordered the stage legend based on size, if it doesn't suit the Jazz, I'll keep it for those days when I feel more playing the Precision (or the fretless which has a Precision body) and get a neck-dangler as well.
5. Thanks for the suggestions, portability isn't a major factor, but small footprint on stage is. The main reason I am usually going DI is to avoid the need to have an amp and cab taking up stage space (my lovely AMB500/Barefaced Super Twin haven't been used yet this year). The stage legend is looking good based on its size.
6. Thanks for the suggestions, there seem to be quite a range of Hercules stands, which is preferred for bass?
7. I have always simply leant my bass against my speakers between sets, etc, but these days usually DI into the PA so don't have a handy speaker to lean it on. There have also been a few occasions on a crowded stage where my bass has been knocked over, no damage so far but it is only a matter of time before something serious happens. I would like to buy a stand, can anyone recommend one which is sturdy enough for bass and won't damage my cellulose finished Jazz bass?
8. Still available, the bass hasn't left its case since I posted the advert, all I want to play these days is my Jazz Bass.
9. We played a rather flat gig this evening, in a pub we have played before where there is very little interaction with the audience as the bands are placed in what is basically a passage way between the bar and the loos. It's a big pub and there were plenty of people there, but very few can be seen from the stage. It was also very hot, I had to lean against a wooden post during the first set as my legs were giving way. We opened a window for the second set and it went much better. No comparison with the previous week's gig when we were really flying with an energetic audience up close and personal. Hopefully, those people that came along to see us weren't too disappointed.
10.
Or the spoons. In fact anything to detract from the tedium.
I think we are long overdue a spoons revival in rock.
11. I spend most of my time at our gigs watching the guitarist, the drummer or the audience, rarely look at the fretboard. I've noticed that in quite a few pictures I seem to looking at it but in fact I am usually looking round to the catch the drummer's eye. When I do look at the neck it is more out of curiosity about what my fingers are up to as they often surprise me!
12.
Oops, sorry for the repeat. Didn't see that other thread as the title didn't really convey the story.
That's true, but unfortunately I wasn't 100% sober. In fact I was not even 50% sober.

14. If you plan to perform them in public the venue needs a PRS licence, and if you sell or give away for promotional purposes recordings then you need to apply (and pay) for a PRS licence.
15.
I take it the reporter doesn't know that you have to sit in the right hand seat of that car to be able to drive it?
A trivial detail easily overlooked on a quiet news day.
16.
Typical lame Warwick shenanigans. Spector players use powerful motorcycles.
Gauntlet picked up, tomorrow I will be riding into town on my Harley whilst playing a Fender J. (weather and local law enforcement permitting) If it's raining, I may chicken out and have to use the Precision, bike, rain and two pickups is obviously a lethal combination.
17. Interesting amount of detail in this story, being a Fender man through and through I can't say much about its accuracy, but it has the ring of truth about it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/11581596/Idiotic-driver-pictured-playing-guitar-at-wheel-on-A27-near-Chichester.html
18.
Hi Dave... see anyone you know..?
Just about everybody, all clutching their Fenders.
19.
Hello Mr Average. What's it like up there?
Pretty crowded.
20.
I have a 'bonding issue' with Fender. In all fairness to Fender, they were designed to be mass produced to suit an 'average' user. I'm not an 'average' anything - interpret that as you wish.
Hi, nice to meet you, I'm Mr Average
21.
I really liked my Epi Jack Casady for instance, but it's simple enough to get another so I sold it when I needed some cash, no problem.
Interesting, as I bought one of these earlier this year, played it a few times, one gig, since when it has stayed in its case and is now for sale. An excellent bass in every respect, great player, great sound, beautiful to look at, but just not 'my' bass. I love Precisions and P type necks (like the Casady) but when I just need to play, it's really always been a Jazz bass for me.
22. For me it's my Mexican Fender classic 60s jazz, bought new a couple of years ago as soon as they came out with cellulose finish, and has been played at almost every gig since. Being cellulose, the finish is already a bit chipped here and there, but this bass just fits me like a comfortable old coat. I say 'almost every gig' as occasionally I forsake my lovely Jazz for a US P bass for a few weeks, but always come back to the jazz. I also have an LBP maple neck Mex Jazz with an incredible sound, but it is usually left in its gig bag at gigs, I just haven't bonded with it yet.
23. Just back from closing Saturday evening at the 4 day Radfest in Radcot, Oxfordshire. There were bands all day outside (some truly excellent bands, at that) but the final band each day played two full sets as opposed to the 45 mins of the rest of the day, and played inside the pub. Large and enthusiastic audience. Got off to a rocky start when our guitarist's 'Shitocaster' proved to be either inaudible or howling with feedback. Quick change after first number to his Fender cured that and we soon settled down. Couple of overenthusiastic (drunk) punters crashed into our gear, but the night went very well, finally packed up half an hour and two encores after the was due to close. A good night, and for me the first gig I've managed to play on my feet (rather than perched on a stool) since my op.
24.
FFS a brewery in Holt , Wiltshire , you have NO chance of getting spotted there , I mean Holt , who goes there ?
Post of the year, bloody brilliant!
25. Fender Jazz Bass, full volume on both pickups, tone control on full treble, DI though PA and vary the tone by how you play. Simple and foolproof. Anything more is just gimmicks for gimmicks' sake.
