1. Thanks Mark. I clean forgot about last Sunday until Al told me he'd been there. Apparently he tried calling me several times but the signal here is often very poor. I'll try to make the next one.
2. For ordinary pub gigs, rehearsals and home use, I have an Ashdown EB180-12, decent little amp and loud enough for my purposes. You can find them second hand for under £100. I used mine last night at an open mic with my band and guests. These days I prefer to DI for most gigs, though, sounds good, takes up less space on 'stage' and saves me carrying more stuff to and from the car. I also have an Ashdown ABM500 and Barefaced Super Twin for larger gigs, but haven't felt the need to use them this year, DI covers everything except informal jams and then the little Ashdown does fine. Beware of buying more than you need!
3. Plenty of gen-you-ine Fender Ps for 500 or less, from US to Mex via MiJ/CiJ.US special is a lower quality than US standard, but plenty of excellent Mex standards around.
4. I am fortunate to work with an absolutely superb singer.
5. If I play at home, I just run through the first minute or so of each song on our current set list. But I only bother if the band hasn't gigged or rehearsed for more than a week, just to keep my fingers flexible.

Martin bought my ABM500, very straightforward guy to deal with, a very easy and pleasant transaction. Enjoy your mew amp, Martin!
7.
I think so... type of pickups, electronics and pickup placement. And strings. If you really want to change the sound of an existing bass, just fit different strings. I think a lot of perceived problems with 'tone' are down to string choice.
Couldn't agree more (so I won't try to)
8.
Or it's her daughter and it's a genetic thing
Either way, I wouldn't want to discourage her/them from their unusual obsession.
9.
Being asked by someone if they can stroke my beard. I was like yup. Helped that she was pretty cute tho.
That's happened to me as well, there must be a cute serial beard stroker traveling from gig to gig around the country
10.
Scarborough Fair has got to be a contender, with original versions older than Bach, and the version we know being about 200 years old (and Paul Simon once claiming a writing credit)!!.
Fair enough, he is getting on a bit.
11.
So much the better (it wasn't wax cylinders, though, I trust..?).
No, I believe they had made it as a far as some form of magnetic tape by then.
12.
One would hope not; that was the 'top-notch gear' years.
I don't think it was exactly new then, though.
13.
I'd say do it. The sound guys at the Beeb are full time professionals used to making stuff happen in the most un-forgiving of circumstances and with the benefit of top notch gear.
I was just wondering whether they will have updated the gear in the sound studio at Broadcasting House I once recorded in back in 1983 (or possibly 4).
14. I've never been to a festival you have to pay to get into. Last time I went to Glastonbury, it was a still a free festival, everyone moved to there from Stonehenge after the solstice..
15. It's also got a surprisingly aggressive tone with the impedance switch on 250. It really is a very good bass, but I need to sell something to make space and pay for recent repairs to my bike, and I can't bear the thought of selling one of my Fenders.
16. I love Jazz basses...just as much as I love Precisions. I think right now Jazzes hold the upper hand. Over the years, though, there have been more Js than Ps 1979, Framus with Di Marzio pups: 2014 Fender 60s classic in studio: same as above but live and then I bought another a month or two back Mex standard
17. I've done it that way but always loosen the strings first.
