1. Played my Mex classic 60s Jazz (nitro, non roadworn) at this evening's rehearsal, not used it for a couple of weeks and really enjoyed playing it again. Lovely bass.
2. I've got a Mex. classic 60s Jazz (sunburst, though) and it is a great bass, at least as good as my US Standard Jazz was, which I have now swapped for a Precision.
3. I have a practice amp (for rehearsals) and a gigging amp, and never play through an amp at home, only through headphones. I can't see any justification for using an amp and cab in the home.
4. We played a well attended gig in my local pub to launch the village's Movember campaign. Got our agreed pay plus a fifty quid bonus, so must have sounded OK. I thin we finally managed to turn down far enough to deal with the low ceiling and stone floor.
5. Just watched it in the iplayer (never tried that before), certainly a good way to pass 90 minutes.

7. Thanks, if it comes off it should be an interesting experience at the every least.
8. Thanks for the advice, I plan to proceed with caution. Not interested in paying to play, but so long as get something out of it, we'll be happy to have the experience. Backline kit should be OK, mine is ABM 500 and Barefaced super twin, need to discuss this with the rest of the band. Should be meeting the person who initiated this sometime this week, possibly also the well-known band member he works for.
9. Worse than that, it has no brakes - once you start playing you'll never stop.
10. I need some advice on behalf of the band I play in, and hope that others who have been in this situation are able to share their knowledge & experience. Band has been together only 6 months, played 17 gigs, but is already producing a good tight sound. We play a mixture of blues standards, some obscure blues and a few standard covers. One original song. I was approached after a recent gig by someone claiming to work with several internationally known bands who said he thought our music and style would make us ideal for opening some of the gigs these bands play. I talked with him for half an hour or so, gave him a business card and copy of our CD and that was that. This chap phoned me this morning saying that a member of one of the above bands (have to be vague for obvious reasons) likes the CD and is interested in using us. All I know at this stage is that we might have to travel (whether this means UK or international is unknown) and we'd be playing 'much bigger places than pubs'. Can anyone suggest what sort of precautions we should take, how much we can reasonably expect to get paid, etc. Two members of our band work full time so need to know whether it is worth taking extended leave, etc. All advice gratefully received. Thanks, Dave
11.
We had just done the sound check for a pub gig when two young ladies approached the stage. One asked me, 'Can my friend sing?', to which I replied, 'I don't know, I've never heard her.' They retreated in confusion.
We played in Swindon last night, sounds like the same pub.
12. We had a lady old enough to know better land at our feet last night after tangling herself up in the floor lights and one monitor. Our quick thinking guitarist grabbed his mic stand as she landed at his feet. We never missed a note!

Swindon tonight

My band, The Wirebirds, are playing tonight at The Crumpled Horn, Eldene, Swindon. So, if anyone in the area is at a loose end, why not drop in and say hello. Be a big advantage if you know where it is as we have never been there and apparantly it's a right bugger to find!
14.
My eyesight is going, I thought you wanted some antiseptic spray for mice.
So did I, in fact I had to read it three times before I understood it correctly. Probably a good thing I quit my job as an English teach last year!
15. The Precision is now happy in its new home. I have to say that it looks even bettter in the flesh (wood?) than in the pictures, it is a lovely creamy vintage white. I plan to play at least one with it at our gig tonight.
16. Jazz bass leaving for new home this weekend, all being well
17. Thanks for th recommendations. Now looks like the bass will be off to a new home a few days after all!
18. Any instruments or amps, cabs etc I buy or sell are always shipped via GAGI/CAGI*. No worries that way. *Go And Get It/ Come And Get It.
19.
Let me chew that over Dave
Let me know if there is anything more you'd like to know about the bass. It is in 100% perfect showroom condition, not a scratch. Prepared to meet half way if interested in the swap.
20. The American special is a cheaper (and feels it) version of American standards, I played both before buying my Am Standard Jazz.
21. Hi, I have a 2008 American Standard Jazz Bass in Blizzard Pearl, bought new this year, rarely played, perfect condition, hard shell case, case candy, would definitely be interested in straight swap for this, mine is also currently for sale for £750.
22. Vintage and Modern in Thame sell Reverend basses, they look interesting but I haven't risked playing one (really don't need another bass!).
