well I havn't started the whooping yet and on the anti biotics so hopefully it might have been caught before the thing kicks in for good. Had all these odd symptoms (i'm pretty healthy normally) and then remembered a good friend had recently had it and the symptoms matched. Need to convince Mrs FRC to get to the GP's now!
Took several doctors to diagnose my whooping cough, eventually a Russian doc at our local hospital in Finland recognized it as he had it himself. GPs in UK and Finland had missed it completely while it got worse by the day. it tends to be seen as a children's illness and treated as a joke among adults, but it is a serious disease which can and does kill people every year. I urge you to get a proper diagnosis, if I remember correctly it was a culture from either blood or a throat swap that confirmed it in me.
oh and medication for possible whooping cough....
That's not good, I had it two years ago, had to have about three months off work and horse doses of strong antibiotics. Used to cough and exhale until my throat locked up, if my wife hadn't been around to slap me on the back and make me breath in again I'd be gone by now. Several times I really thought I'd had it, and I am not given to self pity or dramatics. Take care!

I have a lovely US Standard Jazz bass that sounds and feels great, but I just can't get on with the colour (Blizzard Pearl). I have tried to sell it but have had no real interest at anything other than a give away price. So...if I change the colour, I think i can use it as intended. I know that solid coloured basses may have less interesting wood making them unsuitable for my preferred sunburst finish, but a vintage white and tort plate would suit me fine. Can anyone recommend a professional guitar refinisher able to remove the ghastly metallic paint and repaint it in good vintage white to a decent standard? If anyone has a Jazz bass scratch plate in tortoise shell they want to sell, that would be good to hear about as well! Cheers.

Yes, gig went very well, even got paid extra to carry on longer. Bass sounded great, nice mellow tone but very clear in the mix. -
Bought a guitar strap from OHM, listed as leather with a Celtic dog motif. Received strap very quickly and exactly as described. Is in my gig bag ready for tomorrow's rehearsal. Thanks OH! Dave

Focus at the rainbow was the first album I bought. Still have most of their stuff on CD. I had no idea they were still around, must find out if they're playing anywhere near here.

Hat wearing is strictly forbidden in our band, as this picture proves! (We're not Black Max and the Pirates, just using their drums at a festival)

If anyone's at a loose end near West Oxfordshire this evening they might like to consider dropping in at The Bell in Standlake where my band The Wirebirds will be playing from 21.00 until 23.30. Come and hear how my beautiful Barefaced Super Twin allows every fluffed note to be heard with perfect clarity! Be entertained by our attempts to switch between three drummers, only one of whom has played with us before! Marvel at the geographical range from which the band has been gathered, from the Falklands to just over the road from the pub!

Thanks, Alex, we have three drummers lined up just in case, so I expect either myself or the guitarist to suffer some dreadful fate! -

Finally had an opportunity to play through my Super Twin with the band this evening. Only a rehearsal but went though 26 songs with a temp. drummer who is playing a gig with us on Friday. Impressions? Wonderful tone, playing a Fender Jazz through an Ashdown ABM 500 Evo II, volume at about 25%, EQ close to flat, and it sounded...incredible. Cut through our five piece with ease, without sounding loud, without the twangy treble I am forced to use to hear myself, just a beautiful warm bass sound. The sound was eerily similar to that I had in a recording studio a couple of months ago, playing through an old Fender Bassman recorded onto analogue tape, which is just what I wanted. -
I use a Yamaha Pocketrak W24 to record rehearsals and gigs, never had any problems with it. This was recorded at a recent gig by the yamaha just lying by the sound board: My Dog

My Super Twin remains ungigged. I am starting to wonder if the thing is cursed. First gig was the day after collecting it, and the drummer had to divert to hospital on his way to the gig due to a neck injury, as we played a very quiet drumless gig. Second gig was last night, at a very poorly run benefit do which we were supposed to be headlining, but incompetent organization meant we were squeezed out by a combination of too many bands booked and poor time keeping by the organizers.

We're playing a start of Movember gig and donations have already been pledged have already been made if the band looses their facial hair. I have more to lose than the rest of the band put together!

Thanks, the recorder was by the mixing desk, should have picked up the vocals better, just hope the sound further out was clearer. Toby was well rewarded for his contribution! Darren is a fine drummer, and a good all round bloke as well. Unfortunately he has not been able to play for last couple of weeks due to a neck injury, but we're hopping to have back behind his kit soon.

How to make a headstock look like a cameltoe
FinnDave replied to Jonnyboy Rotten's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I was looking at the headstock on my Thunder 1 only this morning ans wondering why they left so much wood there as it is neck heavy....also lacking a fretless at the moment so put this on my watch list. -
I split my lip and loosened a couple of teeth hoisting my Jazz bass over an ill-advised hat at the start of a gig earlier this summer. I really am old enough to know better but it doesn't seem to stop me!
