Another original voice on guitar, and one that I've not heard anyone copy, is Richard Thompson. A guy who really pushes the envelope in note choices, but who just makes it work.

I was in the audience when Richard Thompson recorded for Radio 1 'In Concert' in 1981/2. Took me a few minutes to work out where the extra guitar was coming from, then spotted a familiar frizzy-haired tele player hiding at the back. Yup, Albert Lee and Richard Thompson on stage together in front of about 200 people.
