I have one of these I bought for my model making, which I have had to give up due to eyesight problems. I think I used the bandsaw once, to cut a piece of 1/8" ply. I am willing to sell it, along with the spare standard blade a pair of finer ones I bought but have never used.

Having spent the last three days (in this heat) playing through the material that might come up on Saturday's gig as it's a band I haven't played with for several years - got a message last night from the booker to say he'd double booked the venue, sorry, won't be needing you after all. Incompetent doesn't begin to describe it.

I'm on my third Casady bass - the first two seemed great when I first got them but just got overlooked when I took out a bass to play. I bought my current one about 18 months ago, and it has been used for quite a few rehearsals and low-key gigs. I will fight the urge to sell it if it comes up as I know I will want another sooner or later.

I'd have kept my first decent bass, a Framus jazz bass, until I could have afforded a jen-you-wine Fender and definitely would not have bought that Guild 301. I did keep my first decent amp (Selmer T&B 50) and cab (homemade 2x15) for quite a while. If had all the money I've wasted on unsuitable basses over the last 45+ years I'd probably spend it on unsuitable basses - I'd need a personality transplant to behave any differently.

Doesn't look anything special, just a rectangular metal box with a few knobs on it 😏
-
Yes, I use mine more like a second volume control, adds some real grunt to the amp as well.
-
Mine's at about half way as well, the compression seems to have more affect on the volume the volume control does!

Gigged my LBT again last weekend - still happy with it, very easy to adjust on the fly, which is what I wanted, being a bit on the thick side.

Is that a good or a bad thing? It's not an easy choice…..

Do you have a supportive partner and is it important?

My first wife was OK about my playing, so long as I didn't spend too much on gear (but that was long before the internet came along and infected us all with GAS). She didn't take a very active interest in, would occasionally come along to hear us at a gig. Second wife (the Finnish years) was dead against it - she specifically said that if I started playing in a band I'd be playing in nightclubs and see pretty women there and would leave her. So I didn't play in bands, or go to nightclubs, but it still didn't last. Third wife (the current Mrs D.) has been very supportive. Quite happy for me to have my amp & cab in the living room, doesn't mind how many bits of kit I buy and actively discourages me from selling stuff. She comes to some gigs, but it's not her sort of music, though if she is required to help out, she's doesn't complain. She was the ticket seller at the Grateful Dude's gigs during my time with them, even though I have failed to convince her of the wonder of the Dead. She also drives me to and from gigs when I can't drive - such as when I was recovering from my bike accident a few years ago and more recently because my driving (especially at night) is restricted by an eye problem at the moment. -
My wife loves the stuff, though. Incidentally, proper peanut butter always has a layer of oil on top - it is peanut oil that separates naturally and needs to be stirred in or the peanut butter will be very dry
-
I love peanut butter but not marmite - so when I tried this I thought it was delicious at first, but the lingering aftertaste of marmite put me off trying it again.

Yes, I think you're right - memory failure!

I'd like to think that that's the way they would treat any customer, but they probably start rubbing their hands when they see me pulling into the car park!

The closest I've ever been to Birmingham is passing through it on a train or the motorway. Never had a reason to stop there.

Supposed to playing my regular slot with a three piece blues band tonight, just heard from the guitarist that his son has tested positive for corona and they live in the same house, so we're cancelling that one. Shame, as I look forward to them.

Played again last night, Franklins Tower again, this one had been arranged by another member of the band, all we got for our troubles was a couple of pints each. Nice riverside location, but the stage was in 3/4 of a box, so both the sound and the heat were trapped there. We had fun playing to a small audience, though to be honest, they couldn't have comfortably fitted many more in. The windows were sealed shut, so we ended up skipping several numbers from our planned set as we could escape before one of us collapsed. I got through three T shirts!

Probably why Basschat is the only forum on any subject I still visit regularly.

The last time I was in a music shop (Oxford PMT) was to buy an amplifier. They plugged it in and handed me a Jazz Bass (think it was from the Player series) and the neck relief was excessive to the point that it was hard to play. I mentioned this to the person who was serving me, he took it away, tweaked the rod and returned it to me - much better. I was able to try the amp properly and ended up buying it. I wasn't looking for a new bass, but once the neck relief had been reduced, it wasn't a bad instrument at all. I decided against buying a fifth Jazz bass though!

I've been using an Ashdown Rootmaster 800 head into a Barefaced Super Compact for a while now, until I bought an Orange Little Bass Thing as it is simpler than the RM800 and sounds great through the SC. I used to use an ABM 600 and Super Twin but it was more than I needed and took more storage space, etc., so they've been sold. Sounded great, though.

I thought the first musical reference to heavy metal was a line in 'Born to be Wild' which dates back to the late 60s. I was a teenager at school in Stockport in the first half of the 70s and very much into music - can't remember the term 'heavy metal' ever being used. Purple, etc., was heavy rock. Perhaps different parts of the country used different descriptions.
