  1. Thanks, should be a bit of fun. Rehearsed our set last night, few changes made but ready to go now. To think I'm excited about a quick set in a pub in Oxford - this day two years ago I was on my to Germany to headline a three day festival there.
  2. My first gig of the year this evening. Just a 45 min spot in a multi band event, but at least we can get together and play for an audience again.
  3. I have calculated that the time spent sawing cursing, asking for help, etc. building the Elf into the cab, you could have plugged and unplugged the speaker to amp cable 958,326 times. Even as a combo, you'd still have the effort of plugging in the mains lead and the input lead from your bass. My laziness refuses to start considering the work involved in sawing up a cab in order to build a tiny amp into it, and if you do decide to do it I shall have to protect myself form any text or images showing or describing any such work. I am far too delicate to be exposed to such an idea
  4. I read the entire entry and am none the wiser. I don't suppose it matters really.
  5. I used to play Green River when I was with the Wirebirds, other than that no contact with music from either of the bands
  6. Displaying my ignorance again, I know who the Eagles are/were, likewise CCR, but who or what is a Lebowski?
  7. My Elf doesn't have speakon output sockets, just jacks. I would estimate it takes about 2 seconds to plug each end in. The combo idea seems to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
  8. Yep, I am sure plenty of people found inspiration in that list.
  9. Pretty much all of them. I really don't have enough spare time to go through the entire thread and pick them out. I don't really thing they are made up, but the lists of names I have never heard of has a very similar to that of reading the lists in the trilogy. Quite a few of the band names in the book would make good names in the 'real world' as well.
  10. Absolutely, they're my favourite invisible friends!
  11. That's a relief, I was thinking we might have been breaking some international musicians agreement!
  12. And finding your way to a place you've never been to before in a town you have no experience of. As a revenue earner, I can see it catching on!
  13. Bands I've been in get around this fairly simply by 'start from the last line of the first verse and into the chorus' type of instructions. Asking them to start from bar 38 is going to produce a lot of blank looks in most bands I've been involved with.
  14. I'm sure some of you are familiar with the Illuminati trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson and someone else who's name escapes me right now. Somewhere about half way through the third volume, there is a long list of all the (made-up) bands that are going to play at a festival. Reading the lists of people's bands who's music they always buy reminds me of this list - great names but complete fiction. Come on, admit it, most of you are making up these band names, aren't you?
  15. The buggers local council see fit not to post where the bus lanes start and stop, but the all-seeing eye of the cameras don't miss a trick. I won't play there again unless transported provided. It reached the point where I refused to play any more central Reading gigs. The band got a dip in for the next gig and everyone in the band got hit for parking. These gigs were at O'Niels which seemed to be fairly central. My only other experience of Reading has been driving to Dawsons to buy a bass (twice) which was fairly painless.
  16. Aren't they basically the same thing? I've played songs by both in various bands but couldn't say which was which.
  17. I've played a few gigs in Reading - the parking and bus lane fines often cost the band more than the gig paid!
  18. I've gigged my Elf with a Barefaced Super Compact (1x12) and it sounded great in a guitar driven there piece. Amp volume was about 1/3rd max.
  19. Let us not forget Bert Camembert, Dingo Virgin, the Divided Alien, all used by Daevid Allen of Gong.
  20. I use my Elf with a Super Compact and it sounds great, but I just plonk it on top of the cab.
  21. Strap the Elf on with a luggage strap if you really can't be bothered to carry it separately. I have an Elf, so I know how big and bulky they are! 😂
