  1. I play the music of the Grateful Dead (known as the dead) to groups of people who call themselves Deadheads. So we should be exempt from the prohibition about playing live music to a live audience, right?
  2. Yep, Playing in the band is in 10/4, Estimated is always counted in as 7/4 but one of our drummers (who really does know what he's talking about) says we should be counting it in 14/8. Either way, it's not the easiest one to play on the bass - the emphasis keeps changing. And then there's the eleven. In 11/8, obviously. The structure is mostly three 3s and a 2, which is quite straightforward.,
  3. Old High German, as I recall, the high meaning the northern part of the country. I used to teach this stuff, but I'm retired now.
  4. I use a pick (due to a hand injury) and most of my basses have pick guards (except the Sandberg, which I play so rarely that I had to go and look at it to check). I used to play some of these basses pre my hand injury, so was playing finger style, and the pick guards were on them then as well.
  5. I used to think I had a reasonable command of the English language, having been born and grown up in the country of its origin, but reading this thread makes me feel as if I've just landed on some strange planet where they speak in bleeps and whistles.
  6. They arrived in today's post, and very good they are too! Three Dead ones (skull & roses) and three Camembert - the seller was running a 'buy two get one free' offer, so I got a good deal. Just have to decide which basses deserve them now!
  7. I can't face trawling through the entire list, so could someone with more patience than I have please tell me where Robert Hunter & JJ Cale are on the list?
  8. Appropriately, I was interrupted while reading the thread by the postman, who had some more stickers for me to put on my basses!!
  9. We'd never be able to agree on the cabinet, though. 2x12? 1x15? 4x10?? The possibilities (and arguments) are endless!
  10. The rainbow bears are greatly relieved!
  11. Not only do several of my basses have stickers on them, this is a pic of the other side of the lap top I am typing this on. Picture was taken about 3 minutes ago. Grateful Dead dancing (marching) bears and a Grateful Dudes sticker between them.
  12. Thanks, got a couple of Camembert stickers (to go with the T shirt I bought when I saw them last year) and a couple of Grateful Dead ones to go with the dozens of GD T shirts I have!
  13. Love the camembert sticker - where did you find that?
  14. Once you've bought bass it is yours to do exactly what you want to it. No one can tell what you 'should' or 'shouldn't' do it. I have a lovely Sandberg bass I bought in January but hardly ever play, if I decided to give it a viking funeral floating down the Windrush as it was consumed by flames, it's my prerogative. Bit of a waste of the best part of 2 grand, but it's my money to waste if I want to (Not that I wouldn want to add more cr*ap to our already polluted local river, of course. Just adding that in case anyone thinks I'm looking for the petrol and matches as I type! I'd take it a mile or so downstream to where the Windrush meets the Thames and cast it adrift there 😝 )
  15. Jezza, I have been wondering whether to keep the Jazz or not - I have two others already, and got this one as a swap for a six string easier in the year. It's a Classic 60s Jazz, and I already have another in sunburst. The only reason I didn't move it on straight away is that I made the mistake of playing it, and is does play very well. I still can't decide - but it's keeping its sticker whatever happens!
  16. Yep, we can't rehearse at the moment, nor play gigs as one of our drummers lives in Leicester (and owns the rehearsal studios).
  17. Fair enough, as your post was directly below mine, I assumed it was aimed at me. I'll happily put stickers on any bass if I think it personalises it. Neither of those two Fenders cost under a grand new. The stickers come off without leaving a mark, I know this as I sold a bass on here a few years ago and the seller wanted the sticker removed and proof that the bass was undamaged by the experience. He was satisfied.
  18. Those Fenders above aren't Squiers, they're Fenders, which is why I called them Fenders.
  19. Here's my Fender pair with stealies:
  20. I wasn't too sure about the scratchplate when I first saw it, but it grows on you after a while. At least it's distinctive!
  21. We were considering streaming a no audience gig from our rehearsal rooms, but that's blown out as the rehearsal rooms are in Leicester! Our next scheduled gig was late July, that's already been cancelled, so next opportunity to play now is October.
  22. My Precision, one of my Jazzes and my JCB all have Grateful Dead stealie stickers on them. The two Fenders are white and the JCB is gold, so they show up well, they don't look so good on sunburst, which most of the rest are. Just realised - you can see the stealie on the JCB in my profile pic (<— over there)
  23. Well, that's at least two weeks I won't have to drive up to Leicester to rehearse!
