Which does slightly overlook the fact that there's quite a few of us on here who are over over 60 ourselves!

Hi Mike, I spent my teenage years (1970s) living in Bramhall, so I know (knew) Stockport very well. Bought my first bass from the Rhythm House. Played in several bands but mostly just friends jamming, played a few gigs but so long ago now that couldn't say where or what the bands were called. I've still got friends in Macclesfield and Hayfield, so get up there from time to time - everything looks so different now though!

Think I made it as far as Turku three times in 16 years - to catch the ferry to Sweden and drive (ride motorbike) to England. Good luck with your search, I sold an Ashdown 4x10 when I left Finland in 2012, expect it's still out there somewhere!
-
Can't help with your cab question, but where in Finland are you? I lived in the Kouvola area for many years.

Our every other month gigs at the Fiddler's Elbow in Camden are usually played to 90-100 people closely packed into the small venue. It's a great atmosphere, but as the average age of our audience is probably around 60, I am mot sure it'd wise to jump back into those shows too quickly, no matter how much we (the band) miss playing them. I can't think that any of venues I play with any band are likely to be able open for some time yet, unfortunately.

I agree, but it explains their behaviour fairly well. I'm no fan of politicians generally, but I certainly don't envy them the decisions they are having to make, almost certainly damned if they do and damned if they don't.

That's the harsh reality of it, and it's not pretty. The worst scenario for me would be surviving the virus then starving to death in the aftermath!

Half way between Hull & where I live is apparently Kegworth in Derbyshire, 99 miles from each of us (depending where in Hull you live, of course). Donington services on the M1 is very close to the half way mark. Pity I can't rehears at the moment, when we do, I travel up to Leicester, only another ten miles to go from there!

I suspect that's very close to the governments real programme. I can't say I agree with it, but on the other hand, I have no idea what else to suggest. It's a fine line between a financial disaster (with all the attendant problems including premature deaths which that brings) and allowing 'nature to take its course'. I wouldn't mind betting that Boris J. wishes Teresa May had hung on to the job for a few more months!

When all this first started, I was pleased at the money I was saving by drinking at home instead of going to the pub, but in the last few weeks, I've been saving even more by not drinking at home either. I intend to try and maintain that when the pubs open again.

The deed is done, my 1024x is now listed in the for sale section.

NOW SOLD Yamaha BB1024x for sale in unblemished Vintage white. I acquired this bass a few weeks ago as a swap for a six string bass I had stopped playing, in truth I also needed the space and money released by the six string. I am selling it now before I start gigging it and getting attached to it. The Yamaha is a lovely bass, in excellent condition, the only non-original parts are the Gotoh machine heads, which the original owner put on in place of the heavier originals to prevent neck dive. It balances very well on a strap and sounds great - though I haven’t had a chance to play it with a band since buying it. I did not get a case with this bass, it was couriered from another part of the UK in a good solid cardboard box. As far as I am aware, couriers require instruments to be in hard cases or they refuse to insure them, so the bass has to be collected, or for the buyer to meet up with me at a mutually agreeable place. I live in west Oxfordshire, between Oxford and Swindon.

Thanks, Al, I'll mull it over and advertise it if I feel I need to sell it. I had two Ibanez sixes I decided to sell some months ago, and both ended up as swaps! There's also a nice Classic 60s Jazz bass, but I've played that more than the Yamaha.

Most memorable moment on stage was probably last October, on stage with the Grateful Dudes, when we played Ripple as an encore and tribute to Robert Hunter, who wrote the song and had recently died. The entire audience joined in and everywhere we looked people had tears running down their cheeks. It was hard to get through the song without choking up. Definitely memorable.

I am considering moving the 1024x on, not because there's anything wrong with it, but because I'm short of money and storage space and this is my most recent acquisition, so I have no sentimental attachment to it yet. I got it as an exchange for an Ibanez 6 string bass that I had stopped playing. Realistically, what do they go for now? There's no case, it came to me in a well packed box.

Yes, nothing gory anymore, there is just a patch of fresh skin where the burns were, so a bit sensitive to the touch of the strings (naturally, the burn were exactly were the pressure of the strings falls on the fingers). Need time to get the callouses back before I can play without thinking about them again. I would post a picture taken soon after the incident, but it's not pleasant!

We've still got gigs booked July, October & December, but in truth I doubt that they'll happen. Having said that, I was invited to an open air rehearsal with a band I depped with several times between Christmas and lockdown, and it felt great to play music with people again. Being outside, we kept the volume down (I was playing through one of the guitarists battery powered amps) and no vocal mics. Drums were bongos and a cajone. One of the singers is a GP so she ensured we maintained social distancing. A few people stopped to watch, but no more than a handful, certainly no crowds, so I don't think any rules were broken. I had to play with plasters on the first two fingers of my left hand having burnt them on the grill a week or two ago. But it was still a very refreshing dose of normality.

I very much hope you're right - there's so much negativity around that it's hard to remain optimistic. Maybe another drink will help!

I love playing gigs because of the synergy between band and audience - and I just can't see how that can be achieved through video link, as the audience are going to be a group of individuals all around the country, or further afield. No audience feedback means it's just a rehearsal to me. If that's the best we look forward to in the next few years (and hopefully it isn't), then I'll be selling up.
-
To be honest, I don't have the slightest interest in watching videos of bands or anything else. I was invited to join a Facebook 'watch party' last night, which seems to mean people sitting in front of their computers all watching the same thing and possibly commenting on it. The video last night was a gig we (Grateful Dudes) played in Camden last October. If there's one thing I like less than watching videos of bands, it's watching videos of bands I am playing in!

I hope so too, we're supposed to be playing at the Fiddler's Elbow that night, also in Camden

We had gigs booked this coming Friday (Portsmouth) and Saturday (Camden) which, needless to say aren't happening. Next gig as-yet uncanceled is end of July, also in Camden. I think it vey unlikely it will go ahead.
