  1. Gong used to play a lot of songs with cheese references. The most obvious is the album 'Camembert Electrique', but there were many lines about cheese in the later material as well.
  2. We have a different set list for every gig, and it is usually proposed by the lead guitarist and then fine-tuned by email discussion. We try to get a rehearsal in before a gig, so have a chance to run through the material and make sure things fit together well. As the newest member of the band (in my third year with them now) I don't really play an active role in set selection, but defer to those who know the music better than I do.
  3. I have an unopened pack of new of LaBella 760FL-CB flat wound strings for six string bass for sale. The string gauges .029/.043/.060/.082/.104/.128, and it retails for £59.00. Will fit standard 34" scale length basses, possibly 35" as well but I haven't tried that so can't be sure. I had a set on an Ibanez six string bass and they sounded great. I changed back to four string before fitting this set though. Forty five pounds plus postage at cost, or meet/collect from Witney area in Oxfordshire.
  4. Yep, pick and flats. Had to witch to playing with a pick after an accident left me unable to use my right hand fingers properly. Pick and flats give a really authentic 60s sound, especially with a Jazz bass (which was still in its gig bag as the guitarist loves my Precision!).
  5. I don't often play my only Precision these days, but last night I had a gig it was just right for.
  6. Just found a pic on Facebook from last night. My old faithful Precision had an outing!
  7. I used a (borrowed) Rumble 100 combo for a festival slot last year when my car broke down and I had to use my wife's which was too small for my amp and cab as well as a couple of basses. Everyone was DI'd and I can't say I noticed the absence of my usual rig. Sounded fine on stage and out front, according to knowledgeable people (other bass players!) in the audience.
  8. Nice early return home - back from tonight's gig before eleven. Basically a two-piece gig, with me and the guitarist I used to play with - great to play with hime again. Played the material we knew from the old band and had a good time time, as did the audience, and the landlord who sat in on hand drum for both sets. He was very good - he used to be a drummer and certainly knew how to play. Small venue only about 6 miles from home for me, from the comments we'll be doing that again. I used my trusty Precision (which is the guitarists favourite) through my Rootmaster 800 into Barefaced Super Compact. Good way to spend an evening.
  9. I thought it was just a ratio, I know less than nothing about diets!
  10. I was in the black last year, in part due to the 2019 version of this thread! Very little chance of a repetition of than this year
  11. Mine too, any that don't get gigged get sold. I only play at home to learn material for gigs, it is a form of work, not really a pleasure. For me, all the pleasure is playing in front of an appreciative audience.
  12. I recently took the Sandberg I bought on impulse in January out on its first gig. it was only then that I realised why I had bought it - very comfortable to play. We play long-ish sets and I often find my left hand gets cramp during the gig - this didn't happened with the Sandberg. My back-up MiMI Jazz stayed in its gig bag, and I am sure it would have done the job almost, but not quite, as well as the Sandberg.
  13. My first gig in Reading cost me £60 for two bus lane infringements - I still have no idea where I committed these crimes.
  14. I refuse to play Reading after problems parking and simply getting to the venues. More than once I have been there with bands who have been fined more than they've earned!
  15. Which pub was it? I've played quite a few central Swindon pubs and that could be just about any of them!
  16. Last night was the third in a series of gigs we've been booked to play at the Fiddler's Elbow in Camden. Lovely to see the place full of Deadheads, and we put on a good show. Played as a full six piece for the first time in several months, which felt good. As always, a new set for every gig, this one included the classic 'Live Dead' package of Dark Star, St Stephen, the Eleven and Lovelight back to back. All packed and ready to leave by about half twelve, home by two, but the drive home was into increasingly rough weather. Woke up this morning to a power cut that has just ended after five hours. My gear last night was my Ashdown Rootmaster 800 into my Barefaced Super Compact, mic'd into the PA. I played my new Sandberg Panther (first proper gig) and it behaved perfectly, quite a few comments (favourable!) on its looks and sound. Next one with the Dudes is the same venue on the Saturday of Easter weekend. I've got a couple of things lined up with other people before that though.
  17. Looks like a good amp. I gigged my Rootmaster/Super Compact this evening with a Sandberg bass - sounded great!
  18. I use a Rootmaster 800 evo with my Super Compact - usually with a Fender Jazz or Precision, sometimes flats sometimes rounds, always with a pick. Aways sounds great! (to my ears, anyway). More than holds its own on backline only gigs, and DI'd or mic'd on the bigger gigs.
  19. My Sandberg had a 50 at the end of the price, does that make it exempt?
  20. I think I was the first to bail, bought my Sandberg on Jan 4th!
  21. The hours I spent in A1 back in the day!!
  22. I'm fairly sure he was the main guy from Petty Criminals, I've got his card somewhere around. Nice chap.
