  1. Beautiful bass - but not for me as I just don't get on with maple boards. Shame, as otherwise I'd be heading down the A34!
  2. My previous band had to wait several weeks once as the landlady of the pub was sacked either immediately after or during the gig. Her replacement didn't arrive for a week or two, so there was no one to authorise the payment. Then we had to convince the new guy that the gig had actually taken place! We were paid in full, eventually, though.
  3. That drummer must all of six years old!
  4. I wasn't thinking about him then, just trying to construct a sentence without spilling my wine.
  5. In my entire life (nearly 62 years) I doubt that I have spent an entire minute thinking about Paul McCartney - even if you added all the milliseconds in which he might have crossed my mind together, there wouldn't be enough for a whole minute.
  6. You're not missing much, it's only a partial ellipsis ..]
  7. I thought that was just you breathing out after the effort of posting. In morse code, obviously.
  8. I used to run into both the treble and bass channels of my T&B 50, can't remember now exactly how I did it, but it worked fine.
  9. That is a real beauty - the only Jazz I have kept for any length of time is a MiM, it's out stayed several US models. Where about are you?
  10. Mostly Christian Tritsch and Mike Howlett (bass players with Gong at different times).
  11. Kidlington's off today, her beautician just called to cancel, she's unwell. GLWTS, looks like a real bargain, but I've spent far too much in the last couple of months (sadly none of it on musical gear).
  12. I'm bringing my wife over (we live near Witney) to have her nails done, so I'll be a loose end for a while between 11.00 and 14.00 (no idea why it takes so long!).
  13. Used it quite often when I was with a pub band. Greene King pubs use it. It's not a very user friendly system, but we always got our money in the end.
  14. I've messed about with guitars once or twice, also with synths, but bass is where I feel at home.
  15. It's all about variety - longest I've been in one band so far is five years, though I suspect my current band is my last one. I've always needed to keep looking for something new, but the current band is by far the most rewarding and challenging I've ever been in. I'm knocking on 62 now, and started when I was 15. I've had some time out, but bass playing has always been central to my identity. Quite honestly, the best gig I've played was probably the most recent one - and so it should be! Fiddler's Elbow last Saturday - good crowd, a great evening, but the best part was the encore - we'd discussed it at the last rehearsal and thought the audience might join in at the end, but they all started singing after the first two chords! Hardly a dry eye in the house. The sort of thing that makes us remember why we do this.
  16. Not quite, one of Phil Lesh's has a few more!
  17. I hate to ask the weight question, but what does it weigh? I had to sell an Ibby 1006 as it was too heavy for the length of gigs we do.
  18. One of my sixes has Nords as well, sounds great! I've never played an Ibby 4 but imagine it to be a narrow version of a six. Very tempted, but as I say, not up in your area until late November, when we (wife & I, not band) are in Wallasey for the weekend.
  19. Very tempted by this, and I'm coming up your way (Wirral) late November... I've got a couple of Ibanez six string basses and both are great instruments, just started using fours again but miss the Ibby feel & sound. Definitely tempted!
  20. Another happy Super Compact user here. I had it paired with an Ashdown Rootmaster 800 head for our gig last night. The 500 is just as good, but I have an 800 I bought a couple of years ago, so no point in changing it now.
