I can still see your earlier post, five above this one

But then I'd have two daughters with the same name - that'd be confusing! (actually, number two has a perfectly sensible name)
-
My oldest daughter is named Suzie. There might be a subconscious reason for that not entirely unrelated to the subject of this thread! I was quite an admirer of Ms Quatro in my younger years.

Slap Happy Chappy? No, Cos I'm Crappy :(
FinnDave replied to DoubleOhStephan's topic in General Discussion
My mistake, I assumed it had something to do with bass playing. Your non-explanation makes more sense than anything I've been able to imagine, so thank you! -

Genuine question - what is double thumbing? Never heard of it! I have two thumbs already, does that count?? -
I can't stand bass solos, and dislike playing them. Not crazy in drum solos either, but in my current band we have two drummers, so the traditional 'Drums' section of the gig is really a drum duet, which is much more interesting to listen to.

Several plausible explanations here https://eggcorns.lascribe.net/english/332/spitting-image/ , but not that one (unless I missed it!)

Interesting eggcorn!

I'm still in, one set of strings (definitely essential, the old set were shot) bought this year, nothing else (yet!). -
I believe that the famous 'guitar burning' by Jimi Hendrix was an unfortunate accident involving a lit cigarette while he was trying to remove a sticker from his strat. Unfortunately, history doesn't record what the offending sticker depicted.

I have no idea whether I can slap or not, never had any call for it in the types of music I play. I suspect that even if I could have played it years ago, I wouldn't be able to now, as my right hand is pretty much knackered. I've heard very little of it, to be honest, mostly seems to sound very 'showy', which is something I don't usually associate with bass playing. -
Lighter fluid is what you need, removes just about all forms of sticky, and have yet to find any finish damaged by it. I've used it for years on everything I need to get sticky residue off, and never had a problem.

Ah, I have always taken a different approach, I buy what I want and then start selling off things I no longer need (spare basses, amps, kidneys, etc) to cover the debt. I operated a bit like the government does, but I am not devious or dishonest enough to be a politician, sadly.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet experienced MIP.

Bassist wanted for covers/function band in Oxfordshire
FinnDave replied to MattG's topic in Bassists Wanted
Thanks, I was just curious, I have no spare paying capacity at the moment. I was rehearsing with a band that rehearsed 'just outside Bicester' 2 or 3 years ago, but didn't really gel with the material. It was a place on the Aylesbury road, think the studio belonged to a chap who plays in a Slade tribute. -
My BAR* has dropped dramatically since I decided to play only six string bass - they are rarely seen out in the wild, so there is very little temptation! * BAR (Bass Acquisition Rate) is closely related to GAS, of course.

Once again, a thread on basschat degenerates into an argument over who's got the best Rs

Where did we all start this journey from?
FinnDave replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
I remember lusting after Columbus Jazz basses in the local music shop (The Rhythm House, Stockport). They were a serious step up from the things I started on - and at nearly fifty quid, well out of reach! -

My first bass was a short sale Vox like that, but I'm fairly sure it had just one of those pickups. I'd started playing a few months before buying the Vox from a chap down the street for an exorbitant £7.00. I also remember using an old valve tape recorder as an amplifier, but mostly for my mate's guitar, I honestly can't remember my first amp - I remember playing through a Wem Dominator, but can't remember if it was mine or not! Eventually made a 2x15 cab in the school woodwork shop, fitted a couple of Fanes I got from Wilmslow (on the bus!). Powered that with a Selmer Treble and Bass 50, had that for years. I've never found any pictures of my early basses (cameras were for special occasions back then!) and the earliest pic of me with a bass is with a Framus Jazz Bass, I reckon it was taken about 1979, so I had been playing about five years by then. -

All I've bought since the year began is a set of strings, which I believe is permitted under the rules. Luckily, no one has offered me an Alembic six yet!! -

Pictures of FX pedals always remind me of the displays of fishing lures in big Finnish shops like Prisma & Citymarket - they certainly lured something in, but it was customers, not fish, who were hooked on them. -
Two of the very best D class amps available today?

That'd be Jerry, on the left, in the red jersey -

Yep, can't argue with that! Especially mine, of course as it is serial number S001 -

I think having piles of amps on the stage is kind of expected for a Grateful Dead tribute, to be honest. Ideally, we would have a replica Wall, but even the Dead couldn't afford the costs of running that!
