  1. A change of bands was the primary stimulus, new music, new ways of thinking about how I play.
  2. I find that it works best if I just stop thinking and go with the flow. Only problem is if someone wants to do it all the same way again!
  3. Don't worry, with luck, you'll get away with only a six month banishment.
  4. Yeah, but obviously you need to have a few to choose from. Have you considered a nice 6 string bass? No, I thought not...
  5. The SR1206 is quite a bass as well - I got one today!
  6. Took delivery this afternoon of my third Ibanez six string bass in the last 3 months or so. One is up for sale, so I hope to stick to just the two! Newbie is an SR 1206, premium range, and is seen here between my SR506 (standard range) and SR1006 (prestige range, and now for sale). Played the 1206 for a couple of hours this afternoon and it felt very much like the 506 which I played this morning. I was planning to change the rounds it came with for a set of LaBella flats, but after playing it, I'm not so sure now. I'll try it though one of my 'proper' amps tomorrow instead of the little combo I normally use at home. Once the 1006 has sold, I'll be putting East pre amps in both of the others. Obligatory pics below, sorry about the quality, it was getting dark by the time I thought of putting the bass down and taking the pics!
  7. It's great, even comes with its own ambulance and uniform! Thank's for spotting that, the curse of autocorrect. I'll undo it to what I originally wrote!
  8. SOLD Selling my Ibanez SR1006, one of their Prestige models, through neck, quality hardware, etc. I've owned this less than 2 1/2 months, but have just bought another 6 string and two of them are enough for me. The previous owner of this bass replaced the Ibanez pre-amp with a John East Uni Retro, which is a significant improvement, the parametric mid-range in particular is very useful. So useful, in fact, that when this sells, it will fund a couple of East pre amps for my two remaining sixers! I'm selling it because I play long gigs with the Grateful Dead tribute I'm in, and since my motorcycle accident three years ago, I am unable to support the weight comfortably for long. It weighs 10lb 7oz, which isn't too bad. Sounds magnificent sitting down, but we don't really do that sort of gig. I'll be sad to see it go, as it is a great bass to play, and the sound quality is wonderful, but if I can play standing up, then I'm afraid it's of no use to me. I don't have a case for this bass, but it fits into a standard Hiscox case (the one I use for my standard Precision). I live in West Oxfordshire, and the bass can be viewed, played, and collected from me there. I have decent bass amps and cabs so you can try it out properly (within reason, I do have neighbours!). I will be in the Wirral the 15th/16th December, and in South Devon on the weekend of 12th/13th January if you would rather have it delivered. And here I am playing it at the only gig I've played it at:
  9. I have a celluloid tort scratch plate for a MiM Jazz for sale in the 'other items' at the moment. I have previously fitted MiM plates to US Fenders and the other way round, the only difference seems to be the trussrod cutout on the US ones - the MiMs are adjusted at the headstock end.
  10. The only time I have had a delay of more than a few days with Invapay, it turned out that the landlady who had booked hd been sacked due to an incident on the night of the gig (not involving the band though) and her replacement knew nothing about the gig. He authorised the payment and it came through the following day.
  11. I'll check the lengths in the morning and post then, but late here now.
  12. Thank you, Chris, it was a real pleasure to meet you and have a good old chat about life and all things bass. Glad to know the bass has gone to a good home, enjoy it!
  13. Hi Brian, typo there, should be 45-100 (ECB 81), I'll correct the original post.
  14. *SOLD* Selling one 4 string set of D'Addario Chromes, 45-100 (ECB81), cut to fit 4 per side heads such as Fender (were on either a Jazz or a Precision). They could be trimmed to fit a two tuners per side bass if required. No visible wear, plenty of life now they are just worn in nicely. Selling as I have found that I prefer the feel and sound of LaBella flats, so these are just sitting on the shelf. Twenty quid plus two quid postage, or collect from West Oxfordshire
  15. Hope you enjoy, his solo work was first half of the 70s, contemporary with TD, but played solo & live. He was also the synth player with Gong and more recently with Hawkwind. This short track from Gong is an indication of where he was heading. I wore the album out back in the day!
  16. On the off chance that you haven't had a taste of Tim Blake's 70's electronica, may I suggest you keep an eye/ear open for Crystal Machine and New Jerusalem.
  17. Just the Affinity, but the combo's OK, good little starter package for someone (or their children). I'll take £100 for the pair collected, bit of a drag if I have find a box for each of them , I'm afraid.
  18. Terve - I have an English friend living near Imatra who drives a truck between Finland and the rest of northern Europe, including the UK, picking up and delivering mostly household goods. I used the company he works for when I sold my place in Kouvola to move back to the UK a few years ago, and they are not too expensive, I can dig out the details if you are interested.
  19. This thread isn't exactly encouraging prospective buyers for one of the better recent Gibsons!
  20. Quite honestly, if anyone behaved like that in any band I have known, I suspect they'd be visiting the out patients dept of the local hospital to have their guitar removed from a sensitive part of their anatomy.
  21. The main problem I had in getting used to my six strings is the width of the neck, which I found took some time as it used the wrist muscles differently. When i pick up a four string now, I find it difficult to use for the same reason. Nothing to do with the notes, just the physical process of playing them.
  22. It was a long gig, the stage was carpeted, and I couldn't think of any reason not to take my shoes off. Anyway, I have the perfect excuse - my left foot was badly mangled in a bike accident three years ago, and prolonged standing hurts like hell. And there was I thinking I'd get a comment about the socks!
