  1. Why do some guitarists feel the need to show off their guitar collection during every gig? None of the guys I play with do that, one will often switch guitars during the break, but never between songs unless something goes wrong with the guitar. Nobody except other guitarists cares or even notices what he's playing!
  2. * SOLD* Need to make room, so selling my 2017 Standard Jazz bass (MiM) which I bought new earlier this year. The asking price includes the original white scratch plate and a gig bag. I can add a WD celluloid scratch plate for an extra £45.00 This bass is in perfect condition, has been used for a few days in a recording studio and 2 or 3 gigs. There is no damage or wear to this bass. I am reluctant to post/courier this, and would prefer the buyer to collect from my house between Abingdon and Witney in West Oxfordshire so that they can try it out through a decent amp and cab, or to meet up with me somewhere mutually convenient. I will be in the Wirral the 15th/16th December, and in South Devon on the weekend of 12th/13th January and can bring the bass with me if there is a buyer there. Not interested in trades for this, I am trying to get some space in the house!
  3. Good bass playing impresses me. I really don't care whether it's achieved with fingers, picks, toes, elbows or by throwing rocks at the bass, if it sounds right for the piece of music, that's all that matters. I played finger stye only for 40 years, but had to change to a pick a couple of years ago following an accident which badly damaged my right hand. For the first year I struggled with the damn bit of plastic between my fingers, but now I can't really tell the difference between what I play now and what I used to play if I hear a recording of myself.
  4. I asked them for a quote a few weeks ago for our three day stint in Germany next May, but haven't had an answer yet.
  5. If that's wrong, then most of us are also guilty.
  6. Sold a few this year, bought a few as well, so still stuck at eight - but four of them are for sale (Alembic Epic, Gibson EB4, Jazz, Epi T Bird).
  7. In which case I suspect my SR1006 had it as well, being the 6 string version in the same line. The previous owner had replaced the original pre-amp with one of John East's, and fortunately for me (unfortunately for him!) he had apparently lost the original, so couldn't; swap it back before trading it in at Bass Direct. My other Ibanez 6 has a switchable midrange, but the effect on the output is very small compared to the East pre.
  8. Especially if you have an ABM plus an RM as a back-up....
  9. Agree completely with this - recently bought an Ibanez six that someone had put an East pre-amp into in place of the original. Used the bass at a Dudes gig on Saturday, MarkBass amp which I set to neutral, and adjusted the bass's tone using the pre-amp alone, and by far the most important and powerful control is that sweepable mid range. I think I had the blend slightly favouring the bridge pick up and the bass control to give slight cut, then dialled in the sound I wanted with the mid. I've been listening to a recording of the gig this morning, and the sound out front is just what I had hoped for.
  10. Got back from last nights a few minutes ago, so just after three. Long gig, two sets totalling well over three hours playing time, but very satisfying. Made it back home in just over an hour and half, not bad for Leicester to Oxford. All bar two were songs I haven't gigged with them before, so there a few moments, but nothing too noticeable. Off to bed now!
  11. Sold my acoustic bass to Karl, a very straightforward transaction which took place outside the Leicester rehearsal studio I was about to spend the day in! A very convenient way to meet a buyer. Seemed a very decent bloke, and hope you are happy with the bass, Karl!
  12. I bought a Zoom mic that plugs into the bottom of my iPhone a year ago but still haven't used it! I have a Yamaha Pocketrax recorder I use to record rehearsals and gigs, so haven't had a need for it yet. I think it cost about 60 quid from AGK or G4M on line.
  13. That only happens if you play a country song backwards.
  14. I lived in Finland for 16 years, all I played was Finnish home-grown ballads and a lot of blues. I don't think I would have lasted 16 days if all there was was metal!
  15. I bought my first six string about 3 months ago (Ibanez SR506) to cover the range needed for Grateful Dead material, and now have a second (SR1006) and haven't touched any of my four strings since the first six appeared in my life. Pretty much everything you say about yours applies to mine as well - astonishingly good basses for the money.
  16. Metaphorical skates - car, train, or plane would be better!
  17. I did post about it a while back...not too late of you get your skates on, tickets are still available...
  18. I've got two Ibanez six strings, both have the Bart Mk 1s and they sound great.
  19. My Cort-made Ibanez 1006 had an East pre-amp installed by the previous owner, and that's very good indeed. Much better than the standard one in my other Ibanez.
  20. We're having a party there this weekend, with us and another band in the same genre, plus similar themed disco - people are coming from all over the country, a DeadHead get-together. The studios has a large reception area, easily enough for a decent stage size (even us, a six-piece with two drummers) and plenty of room for the audience, even quite a lot of sofas for people to sleep on. Should be a good weekend!
  21. My drive to rehearse is about 1 hr 45 min each way, but as one of the guys in the band owns the rehearsal studio, we don't pay for our use of it.
  22. About 5 hours - we start at 11.00 and finish sometime after 16.00. We have a short break for coffee & whatever food we've bought with us.
  23. Shame, he's a nice guy and a damn fine guitar player.
  24. Sounds like every Canadian I've ever met, so it must be true!
