  1. I've had one a couple of years, never had a problem with it, but hardly ever use it, it's too easy to just plug in a lead instead! If I can find the box, I'll get around to advertising it soon.
  2. I enjoy buying new basses & other gear, why would I want to deny myself that pleasure? It does nobody any harm, my children are grown up and earn more than I do, we have food on the table and a roof over our heads. Just think of all those families depending on the income of a breadwinner employed by a music shop who rely on our GAS.
  3. I've made exactly the same move - after selling my new ABM 600 last year and buying a second Rootmaster 800 (with the first as my back-up), I have now sold the standby RM and demoted the newer one to standby duty - and bought an ABM 600 here on the forum. I paid exactly what I sold my 600 for a year earlier! I prefer the ABM again now, unless there is a long walk from car park to stage, in which case the lightweight RM gets another airing. I usually play though a Barefaced Super Compact (1 x 12), but for larger gigs I use the Super Twin (2 x 12) - the ABM and the Super Twin are an awesome combination.
  4. LaBella FL or FX for four string basses, the FL six string set for the sixes (obviously!) I've ended up with 3 sets of FL CB strings and only have 2 sixes, selling the LaBellas is out of the question, so I might have to but another bass!
  5. Thank you! I've not played it much, new set of LaBella flats arrived yesterday but won't have time to change them until after the weekend.
  6. My Ibanez SR506 is a standard model and is surprisingly good. Compared to a Mexican Fender (and I have had plenty of Fenders!) it is ore than twice the guitar for a bit less money.
  7. The only music I can listen to if the electricity goes down (which it does round here, had a 12 hour power cut last Friday) is stuff stored on my laptop played through headphones or a battery powered bluetooth speaker. Several hours worth of everything's fully charged when I start. CDs and albums need electricity, unless you've got a hand-cranked gramophone, of course.
  8. Did nothing to enlighten me, but it's probably my destiny to remain unenlightened!
  9. The factory spec set up is a good place to start, then adjust according taste and playing style, that's how I look at it.
  10. He obviously knew the bass was meant for me, this time!
  11. iTunes for driving, and for learning new songs as easier to stop and start than a CD, but CDs for pleasure. I have bought about 50 CDs since I got myself a new player this summer. The old payer was sold in 2012, so I've got some catching up to do. Some of the 50 are boxed sets of up to 20 individual discs, so should keep me busy for a while.
  12. Yep, the East pre-amp is much better than the Ibanez one in my 506. When time & funds allow, I'll get one in that as well. The mid-range sweep is very impressive. The listing is wrong about which pre-amp it is, though, it is not the U Retro, but its replacement, the uni pre, so its even better than the ad suggested! The Bass Direct listing still says the bass is on hold for some bloke called Dave
  13. It's about 19 hours since I last bought a bass. It's not a record yet!
  14. Thank you, I think they make a lovely couple!
  15. It's starting to look that way - anyone want a few four string basses?
  16. Well, the 506 (the darker one) does, not got the right strings on the 1006 yet, but I am sure it will sound at least as good, hopefully even better!
  17. Sold a Fender Precision last night and was idly surfing the net with a fistful of used notes in front of me, and saw a rather fetching Ibanez SR 1006 advertised by Bass Direct. Quick phone call this morning to check it was still there, and I drove up (it's just over an hour away) and now it is here in my lounge. I'll be changing the round wound strings for a set of LaBellas that I picked up while there (well, only bought the B and C, as I had a spare 4 string set already), and then I reckon it'll make very good companion for the SR506 I bought last month. Obligatory pics, including the two sixes together. Ahhh!
  18. It's a lovely bass, though neck, and fitted with John East preamp, looking forward to getting the round wounds off and stringing it with a set of LaBellas, like my 506.
  19. That one sold today. I know this for a fact as I was the buyer, and the bass is just a few feet away from me in my house as I type!
  20. What are the width and depth of the neck? I'd be interested if it is similar in feel to my Ibanez 506.
  21. I bought my first six string about a month ago. I went for a new Ibanez 506, just ordered it on line and have been very pleased with it. Played 4 or 5 gigs with it, my only problem is that I have felt no inclination to play any of my four strings since it arrived! I even have a lovely Alembic just hanging around doing nothing now.
  22. I have recently quit my band 'The Wirebirds' after five years of regular gigging as I am involved in other projects and no longer have the time for it. They have asked me to help find a replacement, or at least a dep to cover the gigs still on the book for this year - October 20th and November 24th. The band rehearses in Stanford in the Vales, between Oxford and Swindon, and gigs mostly in Swindon and Wiltshire. We played 40 plus gigs last year, mostly pubs, some bike events as well. If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll send you the email address.
  23. Well, I wasn't going to admit anything, but...
