Ah , now sound proofing and room treatments are not quite the same thing
Yes, i did get that wrong. I guess i should have known as it would be covering the whole room to be soundproofed

The pickgaurd looks like it is made from hardboard -
FFS. My first one broke after 3 months. This one has lasted a month. My arm caught the aux in wire putting the bass down, instead of just pulling free, the casing is frail enough to crack open and tear the aux socket out. Whole unit failed. Too tricksy to resolder, and out of principle not buying a third. Any good alternatives out there that will sustain daily use?
My first one had the jack pulled out after i got it caught in clothing. I managed to repair it, but the jack was always loose. After the second time it just buzzed. This new one, i am making sure it is kept in my headphone case. They are fragile, but when they work, they are good. The Amplug2 is slightly better with the swivelling jack, but it looks like it could be as fragile.

Would a jam night be a good place to spot talent. Some people don`t have a band, so maybe a good place to find one?
What's the point in buying a bass and not gigging it? Even Stadivarii' (or should that be Stradivariuses) get gigged, and they make a £10k bass pale into insignificance money wise. Just be sensible when you take them out and don't leave them on the train (like a former Stradivarius owner did IIRC).
I think the difference being, you wouldn`t play a Stradavarius in front of a load of drunks at the Dog and Duck. I don`t see why you can`t oown an expensive bass and just using it at home, and another to gig with. I wouldn`t personally buy something that i wouldn`t be able to take out of the house and gig with though.

I would buy a Jaguar if they made them left handed

Got my laptop, so need to buy an interface. I guess the Focusrite would be a decent enough one?

Ennio Morricone. He is a master is Western film scores.None of the score i would listen to in the car, but in the movies, it makes tension and drama. Quadrophenia is one i listen to a lot

Thanks for that. It is interesting what some soundproofing can do

My hand was forced into buying the new Amplug2. My old one broke last night. The jack got caught and pushed into the housing and just makes fuzzy noises. Should have it tomorrow

As a matter of interest, has anyone bought from on online company, and sent some stuff for trade? If so, were the trade deals better from the online company than the local shop?
i have a pair of these, they have come down in price since i got them about 5 years ago, but they serve me well. https://www.studiosp...AAEB00tQXVkaW8= the thing is with monitors, is a lot of it depends on the person listening, you ear for example may be tuned to hear more mid frequencies than mine, which is why a lot of people will say different things. it will also depend on your studio space, you could buy the most expensive monitors in the world, but an untreated room will make them sound cack. if they are your first set of monitors, for the price they will probably do the job, best way to find out is suck it and see. They will be better than headphones.
What do you mean by an untreated room please? Have you got to have some special acoustic type thing to get the most out of them?

Delays in receiving items shipped from Thoman
Arrived today at last
Good. It is very frustrating when an expected delivery goes awry. Hope you enjoy the new bass -
This is one example that really annoys me and causes much distress and distrust in the seller! I have seen me buying a guitar one week, attempting to trad it back less than one month later and being offered peanuts for it!
Why does it distress you so much? If you aren`t offered what you think it is worth, then sell it privately. I bought a bass , i would be surprised to get half the price back from a shop, even though it is in ungigged, immaculate condition. Try buying from on online shop, and try trading in the guitar, and see how much you would get for it. I suspect, not as much as you would hope

Ok thank you for the replies. I am looking at something like this, so hopefully something like this will be a good start http://www.box.co.uk/MSI_GP70_2PE(Leopard)-221UK_1657636.html

You could try Nina Simone, Nat King Cole. Ray Charles has a jazzy, blues vibe.

I have bought a bass from Thomann, with no problems at all. I have also had no problems from DHL, but i am hardly prolific in dealing with couriers -
An interesting read about 'Tears of a Clown', and the playing of Tony Newton (Touring Motown Bassist at one point). http://www.gregwilso...arly-never-was/
Yes, that was a very interesting read. Good link, thanks.

Which of these would you choose?

The good thing about second hand basses, is if you spend wisely, you should never lose money. It is easier to find a good second hand bass than finding a good teacher -
Basses In/Basses Out 2014 - And What You've Learned......
timmo replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
Oh dear. May I ask what you didn't like about it?
There is nothing really wrong with it. It plays nice, feels nice, but i just didn`t need it. I bought it a couple of months ago, when they were selling them for £500. I think most people here know the scenario. The price is good, the money is sat in the bank, and all reasoning goes out of the window, and you buy it. Get it home, play it a bit,and stays in the case. I just prefer the Clover so much more. Maybe when i get a better amp, and experimenting with the sounds , it will get more use. At the moment , it is just a nice bass in a case -
Labella Flatwounds I believe.
According to his book i had for Christmas, (which i would recommend, Standing in the Shadows of Motown)you are correct. Heavy gauge He never changed the strings unless they broke, and never cleaned his fretboard, as that is what gave the funk, apparently.

I spent lots of money on the bass, cause i just love these, and this is a real steal for the price in my opinion. Can`t see why this is still here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/222594-clover-avenger-4-price-drop/page__p__2621155__hl__clover__fromsearch__1#entry2621155 I`m only doing small pubs ,so the cab and head should do me ok. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/246124-hartke-vx-300watt-bas-cab-l100/ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/249196-ashdown-abm-evo-ii-500-uk-built-l250-short-scale-px-added/

There isn`t much choice being a lefthander. I think there is only a choice of 2 , as the others cost over a grand. The other costs £700, so only one choice if you want a big rig and pedals

I am looking to buy a laptop for recording the noise i make on my bass. Now the article says get as much ram. There is always going to be a ceiling as to how much ram is good, and overkill. For example, gaming requires no more than 8GB. Anything extra is overkill, as games wont go faster with more than 8GB. So does recording music need more than 8 GB. Would 12 or 16 GB be sufficient? Or should i be looking at 32? I have read loads of stuff on the net, but it seems to be old info, or so biased to Apple. I am probably looking at a PC based with an i7 processor.
