that reminds me of this song. You have to get to 4.40 to see the significance though. http://youtu.be/gxEPV4kolz0 I have never tipped a band.

Looking at buying a stand for my bass, and seems a lot of them are not suitable for nitro laquer. I don`t think my bass body has such a finish, but not sure if the neck has. How can you tell please?

I don`t like Malmsteen, or Jeff Berlin`s music. I sure can appreciate thier talent though. Wish i had half of Berlin`s skill

It isn`t perfect, but i don`t know why it gets that much vitriol. Granted, it isn`t a patch on the original, but i am happy for these songs to make an appearance if it gets kids to know about the song, and discover the original.
I met Leo Lyons. Absolute gentleman and the best 'tasche in rock
I would like to have met Leo Lyons. He really throws himself into playing the bass

Looks like it was a good crack. I wouldv`e watched the whole gig if it was all recorded -
I never saw it, as i am not much of a fan. However, the book of the same name is a really good read.
I notice Timmo that your link doesn't post to the UK, any UK stockists that you lot know of?
That is the problem, i saw the price in sterling, and just assumed that they were available here. I haven`t found any available in the UK. As far as i am aware, there is no left handed Jaguars made. There seems a very limited choice of left handed short scales .

Sad news indeed. When you get this sort of news, it alwayus makes me wonder who are irreplacable, and who isn`t, when the band will draw the line and split. In AC/DC`s case, i would imagine it would be hard to replace Angus Young, or Brian Johnson. I know Brian was a replacement, but at thier age it must be a lot difficult.

Ahh,now put like that, I can picture the scenario. Starbucks must be a lot friendlier the otherside of the pond. The staff in the ones I have been in tend to be too busy to talk to me. I suppose I am not the most attractive or interesting person to waste ones time on though
That appreciative punter at a gig is fine and I feel it's part of my job to have that chat and as I said in my original post, I'm surprised and thankful. But the guy at Star Bucks I am not sure about him. Blue
I have to admit that i have never been approached by a random person in Starbucks asking me anything on any subject. I guess that could be annoying if they approach you , while not really interested.

I guess I patronise my wife everyday when she moans about her day at work. I have no idea what she is talking about, but she had been on her feet for longer than 4 hours. I imagine 99% of us would be happy being on our feet for 4 hours doing something we loved.if you aren't happy being on your feet, why do it. Having never been in a band, I would imagine it would be nice to have played to a crowd, and have an appreciative punter wanting to have a quick chat,as long as they aren't being a pain.

I I love music, always have. I like long car journeys on my own, so i can listen to my CD`s in peace. I think learning and playing an instrument gives a different perspective though. I always liked Jamiroquai, now they sound even better with the bassline. Similarly, i hate Michael Jackson`s stuff, but i realise how good the bass is on some of his tracks. I hate jazz, but i can listen to it for a bit. I realise how much skill you need to be a top player, so i appreciate it more. So i guess playing an instrument can give a better insight to a piece. You should give the car radio listener a bit more slack, because most appreciate music, they just may listen to it differently
Having to think clearly what bass to buy rather than being overwhelmed with options.
I agree with that. With all the choice of right handed basses, i reckon it will be too easy to buy the wrong one. Plus i reckon it has saved me loads of money. It is a pain though, as i really want an Epiphone Jack Casady

That video makes it look like it is worth having .
The video is one of the many ways of using a Bass VI. At the moment I've got my Squier VI tuned D#-G#-C#-F#-B-E and I'm trying to play bajo sexto lines on it. Otherwise I tune it E-A-D-G-B-E and double an upright bass line playing with a pick and a little tremolo. You can successfully play 'normal' bass lines on it too - especially if you don't object to the very narrow string spacing. Or retune it A-D-G-C-E-A, call it a baritone guitar, and ... well, play guitar. Very versatile.
It is probably a good instrument. If i was trying to sell it, i just would have used one of AT`s video`s, possibly the second. It seems to demonstrate the instrument a lot better.

Ok, i think i will give up on this. All i was trying to find out is if anyone plays over four frets, and if so, did it take a while to get to that point? If i was still trying in 4 months time, and it only took every one else 2 weeks, i will know it is pointless trying. Obviously there is no wrong or right way to play, and i will adapt if i get to the ppoint i have gone as far as i can
why do you want to stretch your fingers? i swear if we had twelve fingers on each hand you would get people arguing that you should keep your hand fixed in one position to play one whole octave
Who knows. Just what my bass tutors tell me to try

I would guess the spiders name is Boris
I'd be very careful and wary about any pain, as this is the body's way of telling you that something is not right. Apart from the kind of burning sensation often experienced after exertion, playing the bass should never be a painful experience, and you should never play through it. If you dont do so already, before a practice session on the bass, warm up with some gentle stretches. I realise it can be frustrating not to be physically able to play as you want to, but not heeding the body's alarm signals can make things worse in the long term. It is not my intention to be alarmist or to come across as preaching, so sorry if it seems like that.
I appreciate your concern and don`t find you preaching at all. Any advice is really great. It may sound like i am putting my wrist in a vice and trying to force it, but nothing like that. It isn`t tendon pain, just from the wrist that hasn`t moved sideways for 10 years or so. I can be doing my scales with stretches and suddenly the wrist gives a little crack very occasionally. Maybe once a week it happens. The wrist then gets minutely better with less pain. I realise it will never get much better, but a little bit will help tremendously.
