1. If you get a really good copy of live music, which would obviously be unique, you could possibly make a lot of money on Youtube from advertising revenue. In some ways i agree with him if people are profiteering from it. It is kind of like the comedians who go on tour and have someone put all his show online. The audience then know the gags and they have a limited opportunity for DVD`s
2. That`s ace. With the 2 sites it should see me through to advanced reading. Had to youtube some of the bands to see what they sounded like.. Thanks
3. I guess the rider for a plumber, or any tradesman for that matter is copious mugs of tea
4. I don`t know how famous you have to be to get a rider. I have wondered how big you would need to be to demand stuff.Having never been in a band i have no idea, only things your read about people such as Mariah Carey. Do local bands get a rider? Would you be able to ask for a case of lager for the band of 4 people and a 6 pack of crisps? as that doesn`t sound to over the top.
5.
Learning music is also a very worthwhile pursuit. I am actually doing so myself at present. I will probably never use it, but I am enjoying learning it. Here is a link to some bass notation. The music may not be to your taste, but it should help with your reading. Best of luck. http://freebasspart....ass_Players.htm
Nice link. Thanks. That will keep me busy. I was always worried about looking at some of the stuff played by some of the more famous bass players. I always assumed it would be difficult. Some of it looks relatively easy, but i guess even the best players have bread and butter stuff. The music is in good taste as well
6.
...Write out the score yourself, as an exercise..?
Yes a great bit of advice thanks. I just got into writing stuff out when i didn`t really understand it, and it is amazing how you can find patterns in stuff, and realise i make things more complicated than it really is. Never thought of writing the score though as it sounded to difficult, so will give it a go. Off to town to buy a pad of blank paper
7. I also find some books confusing. I have one that shows the notaion for 4 string bass, and on the same line, it shows 5 string notation, so you get notes so close together on the staff lines, it gets me in a bit of a muddle
8.
Probably because TAB is easier to write on a computer than dots... ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- ---555---555---555---555--- I don't know how you'd do that without some specialist notation software. Just my 2p mind, I can't help you with the score you want to find.
Very true. Although i was looking for a book or something, which i would have thought would be reasonably easy to find. It seems that most books are written in tabs now. Also tabs are absolutley useless if i wanted to learn another instrument that wasn`t guitar based
9.
Is this any good to you..? "White Rabbit" sheet music... Hope this helps
Thanks Dad. That seems to be just the job. I will buy that today. The sample sheet doesn`t seem to difficult for me to learn, and the bit i don`t know, i can try to work out using my ear, so maybe 2 stones killed, so to speak.
10.
I know this is not the answer you are looking for, but why dont you try working things out for yourself by ear ? Developing your ear is a great asset for playing bass. Any effort and time spent on this, will pay dividends in the long run. Sorry I cant be of help with your actual question.
I am learning to read music, hence the reason i wanted the notation. I have a book that teaches me how to read in a formulaic fashion, and very good it is too. However, it doesn`t show me how to play anything tangible, so wanted to learn a couple of songs that i know, to see if i am indeed learning anything. Thanks for the suggestion though.Learning by ear woiuld be good . That will be something i will need to explore. The trouble being, when you are learning, there is only so much i can take in
11. Thanks Tim. I will try that. Perhaps i should slow down a bit and try to get a groove going with just a little section at a time
12. It just lists it as Mike Oldfield - Sentinal
13. Thanks. I thought that might be the answer. Trying to learn George Bakers Selection - Little Green Bag. I got the right notes in the right order, but i just can`t make it sound groovy
14. I am looking for relatively easy songs to play. I like Jefferson Airplane and thought White Rabbit maybe easyish. I can find bass tabs and plenty of guitar notation, but nothing for bass notation. Anyone any ideas where i can get it from please? I have looked in Amazon and Musicroom, but no luck. Everything seems to be tabs.
15. A question for Anaconda Basses. Will you have any left hand basses?
16. I am finding that putting notes together is relatively easy, but playing with soul is way more difficult
17.
I may just know of one for sale Timmo
Problem is, i am left handed
18. I can`t say i coveted a Warwick, but decided i wanted to learn to play a bass. After researching opinions, i really wanted one, so i bought a Warwick Fortress. Not knowing any different, i thought it was ok. After getting the Clover Avenger on an impulse buy, the Warwick seemed a massive disappointment. After hearing so much about Stingrays, i would like one.
19. I am working that weekend, but i have put out a shift swap request so i reckon i will be able to go. Very disappointed to be only able to make one day though. It looks like it will be Saturday, but missing Jack Bruce and Lee Sklar will be sad. But then i don`t want to miss Roger Glover either. Pity the 3 of them weren`t on the same day.
20.
Hi peeps I've just joined a covers act and find I've been using a pick a heck of a lot lately. Now for me this is odd as I've always played with my fingers. The issue I'm having is stamina, my hand seems to seize up while using a pick mid tune and I resort back to using fingers until the pain has gone in my hand. Could any of you pick players please give me some tips on using a pick Cheers
Can I ask you why you are using a pick which you say you don`t normally do? I never used a pick, so is it a skill worth learning alongside the finger technique? Is there a reason where you would need to use a pick instead of fingers?
21. OK, thanks for the replies. Some things are confusing, and takes me a while to get my head around it. A lot of things in music seem to make no sense at all, until the penny finally drops,
22. I am currently trying to learn bass patterns via the Register of Guitar Tutors, I have a pattern they call reggae style. It starts at G minor, to A flat, back to G, then A flat to D. My question is, why is the A, a flat, and not a sharp ? I hope that makes sense
23. I am currently going through grading with Registry of Guitar Tutors. It sounds similar. Didn`t realise there were different ones
24. Thanks for this. This is helpful. Most things I see are written with tabs, and I can`t read tabs.
