1. ELO . Having listened to them quite a bit the last week or so, I gotta agree with a lot of comments on some sites as to why Jeff Lynne is not inducted into the hall of fame yet
2. Very sad news. He was certainly different
3. http://www.rollingst...-at-71-20131027 Didn`t realise it was done under another catagory. Still sad news indeed
4.
So, pretty much any band that stays together for more than a couple of years then?
Yeah it seems so. But a lot of the bands that change sound usually have a few changes in personnel such as the original Fleetwood Mac to the other . If you take Sweet, the personnel never changed, although added to, but the singer didn`t have such a strong voice that you could automatically tell it was the same band. Although as pointed out to me, I don`t know Sweet that well, so maybe if you followed the band you might know. If Noddy Holder was in that band, you would instantly know as his voice is fairly unique, along with Brian Johnson.
5.
I've been thinking about this all day, avoiding the obvious ones with line up changes like Floyd and Fleetwood Mac. Try this on for size and
Very good example
6. Nothing to do with playing the bass http://youtu.be/E8H-67ILaqc
7.
But the songs were written by completely different people. Little Willy was written (for them?) by Chinn/Chapman whereas Love Is Like Oxygen was written by the band's guitarist Andy Scott along with Trevor Griffin. There was also six years between the two records. You'd hope that a band would develop somewhat in that time. Edit: there's probably more difference between Little Willy and it's B-side "Man From Mecca" than than Love Is Like Oxygen...
Maybe, but if you take Slade, no matter how many different sounds they had, you always knew it was them from Noddy Holders voice. I personally wouldn`t know that early Sweet was the same Brian Connolly in the later sound. Usually, I believe you can tell either by the voice or style if it was the same band
8. I was lookin at Youtube and watched Sweet- Love is like Oxygen, then thinking it is the same band that made Little Willy. Anyone know of other bands that have had songs , but sound so different that you wouldn`t assume they were the by same band?
9.
I wouldn't worry about it, it's not 'A Major' problem.
So you are thinking it is only a minor problem?
10. I reckon the average concert punter wouldn`t know if you are playing a Fender or Musicman. I saw a band tonight and knew he was playing a Musicman Stingray, only because I have seen so many photos of them on here. Hardly anyone who goes to a concert would have a clue. I asked the bass player what his other bass was, and it was an Aria 2 that he had custom made in 1981. No one would really know
11.
Hey, what happened to 'The Young Ones'??
lol you looked quick. It was a mistake that I though ti had taken down rather sharpish, but not sharpish enough
12. [sub]Someone like this who has over 1 million views. Most bands could only dream off this sort of exposure.[/sub] http://youtu.be/C_Xy_pD_Or8
13. Was Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine wrong to use a backing track for the drums? Is that the sort of thing you are all talking about. I liked them, and didn`t feel it made any difference live or otherwise. I suppose if you are pretending you are doing it all, it is cheating the audience. If you are someone playing a guitar in the pub with backing tracks, I have enjoyed quite a lot of them I have seen, but I know what it is.
14. Will it be someone from a band , or someone from Youtube (or whatever it will be called in 30 years time) who play covers ? Some of them get hundreds of thousands of views
15. It looks good. Pity there are no shots of the headstock in the last photo
16. My first bass was a Warwick Fortress, so I am going to say I like them
17. timmo

tone

Thanks for the replies. There are a lot of factors involved then
18. How do you get tone. Is it the equipment, or is it in your fingers/pick? I read somewhere but not on this forum that tone can only be achieved by the way you hit the strings
19. Is there ever going to be a finale. If anyone wants me to make me talk about this, I will take the fifth
20.
Did they get upset because the barman wasn't running a tab.?
I like that
21. I think they were all the towns major players
22. It must be a major blow to anyone that a close friend or work colleague gets charged with such serious crimes as this. You always hope that the allegations turn out false, but the evidence doesn`t look promising, so I think they are right to call it a day. I can`t see that the rest of the band will be stigmatised though. Perhaps they can do a Foo Fighters type of thing.
23. Surely the word Luthier is a descriptive word for their work. If every carpenter were all lumped together, then you could spend a lot of time looking for someone to build you a fine cabinet.
24. Thanks for all the feedback. Unfortunately I put in a bid for a Peavey bass and won it. I placed the bid with 6 hours to go, but the late surge never happened. It was only after i entered the bid that i had serious regrets, cause this one looks nicer.
