I have always wanted to play an instrument. I wanted to play a guitar, but from a young age I got arthritis in my hands. For 20 years I had a burning issue to play a guitar as I loved music. Anyway, new treatments come along, and my hands eased and the pain stopped, so I thought it would be ideal to try to get some movement back. I knew the guitar would be difficult for me, so with the string spacing I thought a bass would suit better. The idea of being easier to play was soon quashed though.I started right hand, but my little finger is not functioning properly, i got so frustrated that I nearly gave up. I got a left handed bass about 4 weeks ago and had to relearn everything.. After the bass bash in Surrey, I saw all the basses and gear, and heard some great players. So after all the rambling, as I never wanted to be a bass player, I never really had any influences in the bass department. had never heard of Jaco Pistorius until I joined this forum. So although this sounds mushy, I would say this forum is my biggest influence as I would have given up instead of trying left handed. I joined other forums, but this is the only one I use now.

Rocking horse sh*t, It actually exists!
timmo replied to pst62's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I guess that is directed at me, although I am not called Timothy. The point is, they are not impossible to find as someone has one for sale, meaning it is not impossible as there is one for sale at this very moment. Maybe very difficult to find, but not impossible. Descriptions do make me laugh. They are saying that white ones are impossible to find, and here they are with one for sale. I gotta admit I would think that £100 is over the top. They look like a plank of wood with strings. -
Tanglewood Warrior. Anyone know anything about them?
timmo replied to timmo's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Thanks for that. I like the look and finish. As long as it is sounds ok, I would go £80 as it isn`t that far from me to pick it up. It is only to throw into my locker at work for practicing on -
Anyone know anything about them please? There was one for sale here about 3 years ago that I found for £80, but no idea if it sold. It looks nice, but not sure whether to have a bid on it and how much they should fetch. Ok, thanks for the replies. I shall try the old £51.26 trick if it is still £40 later on

It doesn`t look that great, and unsure of how much it is worth as it has a loose knob. I thought around £50 plus the postage.Any opinions please? South East Bass Bash No.7, Surrey, Saturday 21st September 2013
timmo replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Nice photo`s and blog. I was so embarrassed winning the raffle and I looked liker it too -
Unfortuinately, the name escapes me, but someone at the bass bash had a custom made bass, that was more like a single half cut bass. I liked the look of it, and it had a nice weight to it. As luck would have it, the owner is pictured playing the bass in Sylvia`s blog, titled hall 11
I hang mine on the wall, not as art particularly, it just seems the most convenient place to keep them - out of the way but easy to access.
But you have got to admit, they look as good as any picture.
-
Yeah, that is the sort of thing I mean Bolo and Funkgod. They look really good. I am going to scour ebay to see if I can get some cheap stuff that looks good, just so I can hang them up. I will even try to play them occasionally
I think that any functional instrument not being played is a damn shame. To answer your question simply, no, and any bass you think looks good when you're holding it will look good hanging up.
I take your point, but I assume there must be people who have a bass that they have superceded and wouldn`t like to part with it for whatever reason. They probably end up in the loft or somewhere, but would look good hanging up, like my old bass nearly did.
-
I was looking at my bass and thinking how good it looks. Instead of buying art, does anyone buy them to hang on the wall? I was thinking that if I gave up trying to play, I would get a nice hanger. and keep it. Is there a new brand and model bass on the market today that you could buy that you think could appreciate in value, and would look good hanging up?
-
Thanks for the replies. I will have to buy one. The Nux PG1 looks interesting. Can you give your thoughts on it when you have had a reasonable go on it please

I don`t quite understand how headphone amps work. You plug your bass into the earphone amp, where do you plug the earphone amp to get the sound, or is it just a self contained unit that you can just play anywhere? If so, are they any good?

South East Bass Bash No.7, Surrey, Saturday 21st September 2013
timmo replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Unbelievable day. The only regret I had was missing Urb`s workshop as it over ran a bit late and I had to leave to catch a train. I was looking forward to that after watching him play in the jamming room. Maybe next year. Haven`t tried out the amp yet as I caught the wrong connecting train from Reading and ended up in Oxford instead of Gloucester, so a 3 hour journey turned into 5 so a little too late to have a go Anyway thanks to the organisers for making a superb day, I learnt so much today from the workshops -

Will there be plenty of chairs? I have managed to damage my knee, and really don`t want to miss it, especially as I have got my train tickets -

I so want this back - but not at this price !
timmo replied to edstraker123's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
So is this a bass for a farmer or a builder? -
Are the portable A frame stands any good, or are they an accident waiting to happen? I have never used one, but they look like they could get knocked relatively easy and the bass could fall out the stand

I went down Denmark Street about 2 months ago. I never knew where it was, but i knew it was close to Covent Garden. After being bored at 3 different Superdry shops, and every Apple Store we could find for the boy, and several shops for Birkenstock things for my wife, i finally found it. It was 6.55 pm and the shops were all shutting. I was very disappointed. Will have to try again next time i am in London now that i am aware of where it is.
