If it helps, I'm prepared to look after it for you for say a year or two - just so you can see if you'd really miss it or not. I'm nice like that. 😁

They don't necessarily all look the same...

Bugger! Had this in my watch list and was going to put in a last minute bid with a sniping app but completely forgot to set it!

Petition to help save a great local music venue.

Sadly I suspect you're right but it can't hurt to try. -
Hi everyone, (Mods - I hope this is okay) It has just been announced that one of Norwich's most important music venues The Brickmakers will be closing its doors at the end of January as the owners - Enterprise Inns (EI Publican Partnerships) - are demanding an extra 12% to renew the leasehold - which the current landladies simply can't afford. This is probably the only dedicated live music pub left in Norwich (not to mention being named UK live music pub of the year in 2011) and is a real hub for the local live music scene. There is also a second room (The B2) which is one of the only venues in the area devoted to original bands. It also happens to be where I first met my beautiful wife 🙂. I've no idea if this petition will do any good but it's at least better than doing nothing so if any of you would be kind enough to sign it then I (and I'm sure the rest of Norfolk's musical community) would be very grateful. https://www.change.org/p/ei-publican-partnerships-save-the-brickmakers-norwich?recruiter=27439545&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial.pacific_abi_gmail_send.variation.pacific_abi_select_all_contacts.select_all.pacific_email_copy_en_gb_4.v2.pacific_email_copy_en_us_4.control.pacific_email_copy_en_us_3.control.lightning_share_by_medium.share_by_medium.lightning_share_by_medium_message.control.lightning_2primary_share_options.variant.lightning_2primary_share_options_more.variant

I keep looking at these on eBay but then thinking they can't be any good at that price. Might have to grab one now based on this though 😁.
-
Doesn't hurt to look the part either. I'm not suggesting you turn up in a full stage costume or anything weird but if they're playing 80s hair metal for example then turning up in a Lonsdale track suit with a baseball cap worn sideways might not exactly give the impression that you'll fit in.
-
No end caps but how about something like this? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253233413282

I'm loving it. Not only no low end loss but it can even get quite Subby if you really boost the little trim pot on the side. I've found that it's a nice growly drive but can also do a fairly modern, aggressive sound if you put a bright enough sounding bass through it and crank the drive and treble up.
-
And going nowhere either - great sounding drive 😁.

Nice job! Funnily enough I've actually been considering doing exactly this recently (and even in roughly the same colour) so that it matches the rest of my rig. Any chance of a link to where you got the tolex from at all?
-
Joyo Roll Boost would be my recommendation. Inexpensive, very solidly built, very transparent and up to a frankly ridiculous 32dB boost if you should ever want it. Been gigging mine happily for 4 years now.
-
And spend the rest of the saving on going to the gym so that you can lift it! 😆 Seriously though, incredible sounding amps - and an absolute bargain at that price. Congrats!

My band is still the same one I started with our lead guitarist 22 years ago in high school so I've just never stopped 🙂.

Italian actually so more gorgonzola than roquefort. 😉 -
+1 on the neck relief being key. I set mine as close to being completely flat as possible without actualy being flat if that makes sense. If I press down the string at the 1st and 12th frets and then tap the string above the 7th, I can feel and hear the string click against the fret but can't actually see the gap unless I look very closely from the right angle and with the light behind it. Obviously it only works if the nut is cut properly though.

Just to explain my reasoning behind setting the action so low in case it's of interest. It's not actually about ease of playing for my left hand (although it certainly doesn't hurt). It's actually about trying to achieve a particular sound. I used to play with a medium high action and then dig in hard to get the harmonics to ring out as the string kind of bounced off the frets but a few years back I started to feel the onset of arthritis in my right hand. I found that playing with a lighter touch helped avoid a lot of discomfort (not to mention helping with speed) but at the expense of a lot of the articulation in my sound. Bringing the action down really low allowed me to get that brightness and articulation back without the need to dig in. I've also l learnt to control the dynamics with techniques other than just playing harder - for example striking the strings with my fingers (think more Steve Harris' style than John Entwistle's 'typewriter' thing) rather than plucking at them.

Just got my Squier Vm P5 from having a new Nordstrand NP5V pickup fitted (which need some routing etc. to make it fit. The bridge saddles had shifted a little during the process though so I gave it a bit of a set up to get it back to where I like it. I like my action to be what I've anyways thought of as being super low but thought I'd measure it this time and see how it actually compares to others on here. At the 12th fret it is currently at 1.4mm under the low B through to 0.8mm under the G with no dead notes anywhere on the fingerboard. How does your action compare?
-
Not a fan of dead rounds at all - Steel Dunlop Superbrights are my string of choice and I like them as new, fresh bright and zingy as possible. I do currently have a set of LaBella flats on my Gibson EB13 but that bass has no top end to speak of anyway so fresh rounds are a bit wasted on it really but with the flats it has a lovely fat, spongy low end and all the definition and punch is in the mids. I guess I'm a man of extremes when it comes to my tone so for me dead rounds are neither one thing nor the other. As is usually the case though other people seem able to make them sound great.

Had a Caline5 for a bit but found it pretty noisy so bought a Harley Benton Powerplant Junior which is galvanically isolated and has a property hardwired mains supply rather than a plug in DC adaptor. Couldn't recommend the Powerplant Junior more highly - provided you're only running 9v pedals.

I was looking on eBay earlier on just this evening to see if there were any DHA preamp pedals about but only a few overdrives and the new spitfire guitar preamp listed so tried to look on the website but nothing was loading up - I'm guessing now that this might explain it sadly. 😞
