My dad still has his Nakamichi 1000ZXL Limited (gold front) and it does actually still hold it's own sound wise. Mind you it would have been a very expensive bit of kit back in the day and what they sell for now is astronomical!
My second point is I did not choose the pattern on the linen.
Maybe not but you obviously didn't do anything to stop it happening and that's all down to you!!! Nice basses by the way!
Do you have his mum's email and do you know if she's interested in adopting?
I'm afraid not although I could probably message her on facebook for you . Actually, messaging my mate's mum on facebook might be a bit weird!!!

I think a band without a bass player is a terrible idea. You know what happens when you let bands go around forming without a bass player? You get Keane that's what happens! Now let that be a lesson to you all!

That's a lovely looking pair! Fnaaar Is that actualy a split coil p-type pickup under the soapbar or is it just a humbucker in the p position?

http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/fx82.shtml Review here for the dedicated bass version doesn't seem too hot so can't imagine the guitar version would be any better. As always though depends what you want from it and again as anyways best to try before you buy if you can.

We already play everything tuned down half a step but there's one song we've just added to the set that we're playing tuned down a whole tone. Unfortunately nobody bothered to mention to the humble bass player that we were so I've been taking an extra bass to gigs tuned for that song rather than relearn it. Bit of a pain though so I'm looking at getting a cheap pitch shifter pedal just to use for that song. I should point out though that I'm inherently lazy.

Loving that ash grain through the sunburst finish. Beautiful looking bass!
This thread also reminds me of the other advert fave... "Unwanted gift" Who gets £400, £500, £600 basses as birthday presents? And who is it doing the giving and, more importantly why are none of them my auntie? I'm lucky if I get a pair of socks and a CD!
Ask BC'er Dolando. I happen to know that he just got a very nice looking '75 Jazz from his family for his 30th. However it appears to be very much wanted!

I would say (and have voted) GES for the most part. I have the basses I want (I'm very lucky to have fallen in love with a cheap and cheerful Squier). My amp is as light and compact as I need it to be but sounds absolutely amazing and looks great too. In all of that I'm now completely happy and settled. My GAS weakness more recently has been for pedals but even there I think I'm pretty sorted now. I'm thinking about a pitch shifter pedal because we now play one song in our set tuned down half a step and I can't be bothered to re-tune or re-learn the fingering but even that's more a means to an end than GAS. Right now I'm probably the happiest I've been with my gear for about 5 or 6 years and back then it only changed because I had to sell off some much loved gear for financial reasons.
Simlilar kind of thing happened to me with a Puma 900. My boy flicked the incoming supply to 110 Kids eh?!
Actually thought of your recent thread when it happened !
.. and maybe consider getting your little girl's hearing checked..?
Just checked it - still as selective as ever! More seriously though, while high pitched it wasn't loud fortunately.

Thanks JTUK. Probably a good idea to take my old backup Behringer head along like you say. As for running the amp for a bit, anything that gives me an excuse with the wife to get some extra home playing time is all good by me

After spending some time yesterday playing about with my full gigging rig (pedal board and all) set up in the kitchen, I un-plugged the lead out of the input side of the pedals and took my bass through to the hall to put it in its case - stupidly leaving everything switched on. My 3 year old girl seemingly managed to sneak into the kitchen without me noticing, turn up the input gain on the amp to full, turn up the volume fully on my Big Muff and turn it on. Not sure what happened exactly but all I heard was a high pitched squeal and a quiet pop. Checked the amp and the pre-amp section was working fine (or at least the clip light was showing signal going in) but no sound. Opened the head and as expected both internal fuses for the power amp section were blown. Now replaced and amp sounding as it should again BUT the fuses were 7A and I only had 8A fuses. Is this likely to cause an issue? I've ordered some 7A fuses but not sure they'lol be here before my gig on Saturday so just looking for some reassurance that I won't cook my amp properly if I use it at the weekend.

Cars kill people but I'm sure most people on here still drive one. Again it's all how you use it and it's a very useful tool when used correctly. Still if some people prefer not to then that's absolutely fine and an equally valid choice. Again, with covering bad technique you can use it that way or you can use it to achieve what technique alone can't - just like you can drive your car 500 yards to the shops when you could have walked but getting from Portsmouth to Newcastle in a day is something you'd struggle to achieve on foot.

Again if you don't mind the MM bridge pickup then the Schecter Diamond-P Custom-5 is meant to be pretty decent. Personally I just wanted the P split pickup and nothing at the bridge but didn't want to spend the Fender American Standard money. Got the Squier VM version which plays and feels far far better than a sub £300 bass has any right to. Didn't sound too bad either but a few quid spent on upgrading the electronics and it now sounds fantastic. I've owned some very high end expensive basses costing several thousand pounds but this is actually now my favorite bass that I've owned and still owes me less than your £500 starting point. I do still get GAS for some of those Maruszczyks thought - stunning looking basses!

After getting to the point where I was running 2 boards together in order to accommodate all my pedals, I've decided to trim it down to just the stuff I REALLY need for the stuff we're playing. So now it's just Snark tuner, Palmer Deepressor (always on compression to give it some punch), EHX Bass Soul Food (for anything that just needs a little subtle grit and some added harmonic content in the sound), Palmer Ubertreiber (for a more full on overdrive), EBS Octabass (when I need a bit of a synth sound - especially combined with both drives doubled up), Joyo Roll Boost (simple, clean volume boost for when I need a line to stand out). Just received the Harley Benton Power Plant Junior to run it all off yesterday after my cheap and cheerful Chinese Caline PSU from Ebay started to make some funny noises!
I forget all about the technicalities of compression and just plug in my Diamond BCP-1. It sounds bloody great. That is all.
My approach to compression too. When I have mine on it sounds 'nicer'. So I have it on.

I voted other. My number one gigging bass hold it's position because out of all my basses it's the one that feels most comfortable to play, looks the best to my eyes and (since it's recent modification to add an active circuit) also sounds the best to my ears. I just happen to be lucky that, as its a Squier, I don't have to worry about it too much at gigs. Saying that though, My old Warwick Streamer stage one 5 string would now cost well over 5 grand to buy the equivalent new at Warwick's insane new prices but I never used to worry about that at gigs either.
-
Personally I just like the idea of turning up at a session and winding up the producer but pulling out a Fender Dimension and a Music Man Cutlass.

I've used one of the Caline PSUs from eBay for about a year now and it's been pretty good and fairly quiet until a couple of weeks ago when I started getting a really loud hum. I think it may actually be a fault with the power pack itself but seeing as I've just down-scaled my board to just tuner/compressor/overdrive/octaver/clean boost recently, I'm probably just gonna get one of the Harley Benton Junior units to replace it.
I use http://www.karaoke-version.co.uk/ Not sure if it is exactly what you are after. They are decent covers, when you buy a track you can download it as much as you want and can keep or leave out any of the instruments each time.
Another one here using this. We use it for keyboard parts when playing live and just add a click track.

This is what happens when you accidentally leave your guitar unattended when your odd uncle Cyril is visiting for the weekend and brings his pet beaver along with him.

The guy who did this clearly has some artistic talent. It's just a shame that this misguided creation has resulted in a silver dragon with with buck teeth. It looks like when it laughs it'll sound like "hyuk hyuk hyuk"! As for if it's cool, I'd ask if all of the following associated things are cool: Dungeons & Dragons. Poor dentistry. Platform boots on men. Cod-pieces in general. Big spiky shoulder pads. The ability to lick one's own naval/eyebrows. Kiss. On the whole I'd say probably not.

There was a Squier VM P5 on eBay recently that was relisted several times for a fair chunk over the new price. Eventually the seller gave up and relisted as an auction starting at 99p. Sold for £180 in the end which is probably about right but given its the kind of price range bass that inexperienced youngsters will often be looking at, someone could easily have been ripped off.
